Any rejection emails from programs? It’s been radio silence over here as well.

Hello guys!

Joining the conversation here just now,...

Can we stick to this format from the get go? This way we get more info.

AMG-MD

AMG-DO

IMG-US (does NOT need Visa)

IMG-International (needs Visa)

Rejections

Just add your interview place and date of invite receipt under the category that matches your credentials. If possible, lets also add a space for people to post their rejections. Simply place the name of program where you received rejection from and add your credentials between parenthesis. e.g. X PCCM Program (7/16) (US/IMG). If a second person received rejection, just add it again to the rejection list even if duplicate.

Thanks!

I cant stand this radio silence
Let your heart not be troubled... at least not yet. Most programs start notifying during the last week in July and will continue to have rolling invitations through mid to late August.

Frustrating? Yes. But nothing to worry about for a while yet.

I have been checking this thread, seemed like I should do the right thing and contribute. Not sure where the existing invites should go in this new format so I will leave them at the top.

Big-time rookie question, but do most programs just send out one batch of invitations? If people cancel, do they trickle out subsequent invitations? Or is it a second-wave type deal?

Im pretty sure they rank their applicants as they come. They must have some kind of tier system where they organize people from most desirable to least desirable. I'm sure they also refuse certain candidates outright before they even look at the pool (by step scores, etc, etc). They send out invites and wait for them to respond to the interviews. Lots of those more desirable candidates will tend to apply to a bit more than they are willing to interview for and end up cancelling interviews. They then interview the first wave, they realize who fits and who doesn't and probably at that point they move on to the next set of people they set aside... wash, rinse and repeat. After a few rounds they simply invite a bunch of extra people (DO's and IMG's) as a means to have more potential candidates for the match in case their first choices end up matching elsewhere, that way they don't have to struggle with finding ppl outside of the match.

At least that's what I envision..

Possibly too they invite a lot of DO’s and IMG’s before looking at some low profile AMG apps. No one is sure how exactly it works. Moreover it’s likely different strokes for different programs

One more to add. Briefly, USMD/academic IM/250s/250s/?passed/1 poster, old irrelevant research
Best of luck to everyone, and look forward to meeting you out on the trail! (And absolutely pretending we’re not still opening SDN )

The silence is starting to get to me. I thought I would be an OK candidate and at least get some interviews, but am starting to question that. I'm a US MD grad (USMLE 250s/250s/230s), MPH, one first author publication and a couple of poster presentations). The only thing that makes me a little non-traditional is that I graduated from residency (large, well-regarded east coast academic medical center) 5+ years ago, and have been working as a hospitalist since then. I didn't think the fact that I graduated more than a few years ago would be a big deal, but maybe it is? Thoughts would be appreciated.

You can take a look at prior years threads to get an idea of what date range the interview offers from the listed programs are and then cross-reference with your application list.

Looking at last year’s thread, seems like the large majority of programs hadn’t sent invites at this point, and it sounds like a lot of us haven’t heard anything yet. I don’t think it’s time to get too nervous just yet.

Dead silence here so far, I am afraid i threw my money away

I felt the exact same way until I got an invite this morning. It’s still early, have faith. It got to the point that I called a random program to make sure someone, anyone had received my application.

I am applying to CCM , after doing fellowship in Nephrology , so interviews for CCM might come a bit later in the cycle but i think still very early to give up so soon , is my understanding that most interviews will come in August

Radio silence here.. came in with low expectations..

I have less than average scores on USMLE with no fails and spent about 6 years prior to starting residency. No chief, only part of CLER committee. Had letters from director of PCCM rotation; PD, APD and one of the attendings with whom I did most of my work with.

I have 3 poster publications (2 CHEST, 1ATS, 1 on ACP regional conference as well as 1 on sponsoring institution symposium); About 4 other case reports with posters on that same symposium. All of my papers are pertaining PCCM. BTW, I’m IMG-US.

I have a project cleared by feasibility but that is pending other approvals. I am ENLS and PALS certified (don’t know If it helps to have in addition to BLS and ACLS).

I haven’t received anything yet. Do you think the gap and the exams will get in the way, should I prepare for not finding at least one program who will interview?

Honestly just based upon the list, it looks like programs may be interviewing AMG grads first before getting to IMGs unless I assume the step scores are above a certain threshold, my guess. I only have an acknowledgement myself.
