Any program knows that you are likely going to be interested in other programs.

Just ask them about their program and what they offer. Ask about scope of tx offered, time in OR, time on call, number of residents to faculty, is there an ortho dept and how much collaboration you have with them, if there is any pre-doc teaching involved, anything random about the school/city if you are not from there. these are just random questions off the top that I would probably ask.

As long as you don't act super weird in this meeting I don't think anything can really go wrong in something like this.

1. Average number of daily patients, and is there a dedicated assistant?
2. Average number of OR cases peer week
3. Any off site rotations or clinics that will need to be covered?
4. What type of sedation training is offered?
5. On call responsibilities
6. What type of Ortho training will you receive?
7. Pedo Board passage rate of previous classes
8. Lecture schedule, how often, what time, and where?
9. Salary and benefits package?
10. Number of full time and part time faculty

This will start you off. Legit questions that any PD should be able to answer.

Don’t say anything negative about another program, because then this program will know you’re likely to do so about them behind their back. Tip I was told when meeting high school adcoms. If they say something negative about someplace else just nod and smile, don’t fuel it.
