I just came home to an acceptance letter from Penn State. It's funny, because I was on the waitlist. I didn't think the waitlist would move so early (the letter is dated January 30th). hmmm...anybody else hear today?

Now I have to decide whether to hold the seat. Not sure yet.

Well, CONGRATULATIONS!!

wow. that is quite weird. congrats, though! i know you were kinda bummed about the waitlist. i wonder if they give out waitlist spots when other people withdraw? cuz I know that they admit on a rolling basis so they're constantly accepting. doesn't your husband go to drexel? what are you leaning towards?

No 🙁 🙁 🙁

I'm waitlisted there and I really, really loved the school. I wrote them a letter of interest. I'm from New York... Did you write them anything?

:scared: :scared: :scared:

By the way congrats! I'm sure Einstein will be your next acceptance.

Thanks everybody. Pretty cool mail to get on my birthday 🙂

Yeah, my husband goes to Drexel (2nd year). I'm not leaning towards anything right now. I'm just going to wait and see where I end up and then decide, I think. I've given up planning my life ahead of time. I've tried doing that, but the very fact that I have a baby due the first week of August has proven to me that planning doesn't work  So yeah, I might be deferring a year anyway.

Apparition, I didn't write them anything. But at least you know that the waitlist will move before May, so hopefully you'll hear soon! I'm not sure if residence played a roll in my acceptance. Good luck to you :luck:

My understanding was that "on hold" meant they were leaving your decision until they had a chance to interview more canidates, not necessarily a waitlist(meaning no movement until May). I guess it's all just semantics though.... Congrats!

correct! but i did not receive anything yet

oh, how could i forget

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIGRESS 😀

that is quite the gift though, good luck choosing your school

thanks! I don't feel 24....😛

Any news today, waitlisters?

got my acceptance today...it was the most surprising event of my entire app process. i thought i was on the waitlist so i was confused as hell to see a big envelope from penn state. i reread my waitlist letter and it turns out i was "on hold". as a previous poster stated, on hold is not the same as waitlist but the letter i received in november certainly made it sound so. they should write in bold letters "you're on hold, this is does not mean you're on the waitlist". anyway, if you think you're on waitlist at penn state, check again

NehsNairb, did you write them a letter of interest/intent? I am currently on hold post-interview at Penn State, and am waiting patiently.

nope, that's what was really surprising. after i got the "on hold" letter, i didn't bother staying in touch. so i guess it doesn't matter if you send them a LOI or not.

i'm speculating that one of my interviewers really pushed for me to the adcom because i had a fantastic interview with him. perhaps in addition to writing to LOIs, it might be beneficial to keep in contact with your interviewers as well. good luck to you.

Congrats on your acceptance! How do you keep in touch with the interviewer?

Thanks for your response. Though I feel my interviews at Penn State went OK, at this point I feel weird contacting my interviewers since it's been almost 3 months after my interview. I haven't kept in touch, and if I contact them now, I am not sure they would evern remeber me. 😳

Anybody esle got off from the post-interview hold? It's been 2 months for me being on this hold. blah

DrKitty,

How long after your interview did you hear back from PSU? Is the 'hold' the same as a 'waitlist'?

Do acceptances come in big evenelopes, and holds in thin/small envelopes?

I just interviewed at PSU, and it is my #1 choice. The long wait begins, sigh.

I interviewed at PSU on Dec 2nd, and recieved "hold" letter (dated Jan 11th) on Jan 17th.

Acceptances come in big envelopes, while "hold" and rejection notifications come in small thin envelopes.

Yes, "hold" is the same as waitlist at PSU. The admissions staff is being very vague about hold status, they are not helpful. Hope this info helps.

I wonder if anyone actually gets rejected after the interview, it seems that there are just acceptances and waitlists.

Appartition, I actually wondered the same thing. If you look at the Wall of Shame thread, there are no PSU post-interview rejections posted. I believe there is only one person who posted a rejection there, and I don't even know if that's pre- or post-interview.

Yes, people do get rejected post interview.

Going back to a point made earlier in this thread, does anyone keep in touch w/their interviewers (from any school)? If so, what do you talk about? Should you update the interviewer on your interest in the school?

I would def send them a thank you letter (via snail mail) for taking the time to meet with you. Other than that no.... although I ould say "Hi." if I crossed their paths in the street.

Does anybody know if Penn State is still offering interviews?

The last interview day is tomorrow... sorry!

Do they mail the envelope to your preferred address, or your permanent one?

preferred address

I think they messed my app up. It's almost been 9 weeks.

I called last week and the secretary sounded confused and consoled me for the wait. Then I wrote them an email telling them that I hadn't heard.

Any other ideas?

oh wow that means I'm not waitlisted after all! I know my letter said something like, "we're deferring your application to compare it with other applicants in our pool .. please be patient"

this was post-interview too .. so what does a "you're on our waitlist" letter sound like, then?

meh im on the Penn State waitlist. Wanna give up your spot?😀😀😀😀:meanie:

so did your letter say, "CONGRATULATIONS! you're on our waitlist!" or did it say the more vague, "we're deferring your application for a bit to compare it to other candidates .. sit tight and we'll let you know what's up..."
