Hello, everyone: this is my first time posting on this website! i made my account today, because I am in need of some help/advice.

i just graduated from UC Davis this year with a BS in neurobiology, physiology and behavior. I considered myself a premed student and got a GPA of 3.07, and took the MCAT last fall for the first time and got a 505.

I know my GPA is really, really low, and my MCAT is not the best. it was 70% percentile and I'm still not really sure how bad or average that score is... any thoughts? I know for sure that I didn't try my hardest and get my best score.

Here's what I'm thinking are my options:
1. smp
2. post bacc
3. give up at this point... im not sure...
4. I was also thinking of doing scribe/emt/paramedica/cna?!? for a year or two then applying, or entering post bacc or smp... then med school

sorry im a total noob... any questions, advice, and honesty is welcome. I just want to go about this is in a wise and cautious way. please let me know!!

I think most of the experts here will tell you is repair your GPA and apply DO next cycle using grade replacement. Your MCAT will get you an interview it's your GPA that's holding you back.

The fastest path for you to become a doctor will be to retake all F/D/C science coursework, do well on MCAT, and apply to DO schools.

IF you're boning for the MD degree, there are MD schools that reward reinvention. You'll need to ace all the classic pre-reqs, and ace either a post-bac (which can be DIY) or a SMP, ideally one given at a med school. Then also ace MCAT (513 or better, 33+ on the old scale).

Do not apply until you have the best possible app. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Med schools aren't going anywhere, and, in fact, by the time you apply, several more schools will have opened their doors.

Thank you so much for your help!!!
So if I want to ace all the classic pre reqs that means i have to retake the Bs as well right..
Also, i want to do the post-bac or SMP but problem is, I'm not sure if I can get into those programs. Even if its DIY? Do i just apply to the school and sign up for classes? Since my gpa is so low, I'm not sure if any programs will accept me.. so I was thinking of scribing for a year to show them my dedication?

Do you mean my current mcat of 505?

Retake only C/D/F grades. retaking Bs would be stupid. If that is you in your avatar, I suggest changing it for privacy's' sake.

DIY is you sign up for classes at your local CC or UG school. DIY is, well, DIY. It's anot a formal program. hence, as long as there's a school that's offering the courses, you can enroll in them.

Do DIY to get your GPA up to 3.0 (even 2.75 for some SMPs) and then enroll in a SMP. Your 505 MCAT is competitive for lots of DO schools.

oh, thank you. changed it just now

my current gpa is 3.07.

i heard that retaking classes at a local cc isn't good enough for schools?

There seems to be a paradigm shift and more and more schools are OK with coursework at CCs. the main concern is if you're currently going to a 4 year school and taking pre-reqs at CCs looks like you're trying to avoid the school's weeding courses. You're a non-trad now...things are different.

thank you... i think i will try to retake everything in a DIY post bacc at a four year, though. regarding this diy post bacc.... when i apply to schools should i be apply under undergraduate or graduate? sorry im confused haha.
also, what are my chances of getting into the school? since my gpa is so low...

Some schools have a "non degree seeking" undergraduate student designation, which is what you would be.
