Should a premed student take Psychology or Sociology first? I enrolled in Psychology for this current semester but dropped it after 3 classes because the professor kept saying "as you all remember from your sociology class" so it made me confused. Now I'm not sure if I need to do Sociology first and then Psych or vice versa.

Many thanks,

Honestly, there's a little overlap but I don't feel there's a need for Sociology to learn Psychology. Do whatever you like first. I did sociology first.

I did sociology first, and then psych 4 years later. I don't think it matters.

Check to see if sociology is a prereq for psych at your school but otherwise I don't think it matters

Unless your school has some specific track for how they expect students to take those two classes, I really don't think the order matters. I've never taken a sociology class and I was able to get through psychology alright, it doesn't seem like there is much overlap.

I did psych before sociology. No difference on the order.

My courses were 100% independent. They were even different departments. There was no overlap in what was taught in my intro level classes.
I am taking both right now. So far, they have nothing to do with each other as far as terms go. They both cover some of the same areas but neither of those classes refer to each other. It's like taking trig and precalc. Both are math classes at roughly the same level but neither are going to rely on each other for previous content.

I took Psychology before Socio (did enroll in Socio first, but I dropped it) but trust me, there is nothing in Psych that involves Sociology.
It's more close to Biology than Socio. At least the course I've taken was (General Psych 1).

I took soc 100 with possibly the worst professor you could ask for. I had to read two entire textbooks, cover to cover. Once was an intro to socio textbook (Schaefer). I'm telling you that in those 800 pages, I did not see any actual psychology. We went in depth on the social effects of mental illness (poverty, taxpayer cost, homelessness, etc.). That's it.

In both classes, we learned how to differentiate between dependent and independent variables. That's where the overlap ends.

It doesn't matter

If you have the ability to memorize the mundane opinions of wizened old men for a semester then you can get through psych with aplomb.
