Hey All,

I was just wondering if anyone is taking Mark Frasier's dissection class this Spring (BMS 531). I know we have a preliminary meeting this Friday morning during which I presume we will be picking our lab partners. Just thought it would be cool to partner up with another SDN'er if there were any.

Hey, post who the t/a's are for this year please! Tell Mark Kai says Hi, and thanks!

Ok. I don't know if I'll find out this Friday or not till next Tuesday, but I'll let you know.

When I went in to see Mark a while back to get permission for this class (I'm not in the Plan B program), I mentioned your name, and he didn't even throw up! 😛 You know I'm just kidding, of course. He remembers both you and Greta fondly. I mentioned both of your names to him because it was you two who both recommended this class. I'm excited to take it.

Greta told me your age, and I was surprised. For some reason, I was thinking of you as being around 30.

I'm bummed that apparently I'm the only SDN'er taking the class this semester. 🙁

take Dr. Stewarts Histology class!!! it's the same class for the vet school and I'm helping as a TA this semester 🙂

Wish I could, but I can't sign up for classes that are specifically for the vet students.

As far as I know, the histo class that Dr. Stewart teaches that is available to non-vet students is just the online one (VS333, I think). Looks like her online class is now only going to be offered in the Fall, with Dr. Madl offering the on-campus version in the Spring (which conflicts with Mark's dissection class...DRAT!)

I'm hoping it still might show up on the schedule for the summer session. :xf:

Well, heck, I just noticed that you're still pre-vet, so if you are TA'ing, you must be referring to Dr. Madl's class??

I'm going to be taking the dissection class and will be a TA for BMS 305. Sorry for not posting earlier- I just like to read the forum and have been for years! So yay, first post!😀:soexcited:

yeah, her class is totally online. that's how it is in the Fall also. She has like 5 or 6 TAs that help her in the class b/c we're supposed to be available for student questions, online chats and we manage her class on RamCt.

If you have the time, totally take it! I took it in the fall...and it's seriously hardcore. a lot of information to learn. but i think it'd be helpful because 1-you'd know what 'normal' tissue looks like and 2- the class is taught for the vet students their first year...but instead of learning it in a semester, they only have like 6 weeks. but i heard it's the same information. i made sure that i kept my notes organized. lol.

anyway, think about it! 🙂

p.s. i need to change my status! i already graduated from college and i got accepted into the CSU vet prep program...so that's what i've been doing this year. but I will be a vet student in the fall and I'm still going to TA this class. 🙂

That's awesome that you're going to TA! I'm still a bit confused tho'. Are you TA'ing for Spring 2010? I want to clarify b/c I wanted to take the class this Spring, but it isn't listed on RamWeb, so I presumed it wasn't offered. However, it isn't yet listed for summer 2010 either, and I was just told that it will be offered then.

Regardless, I'm definitely taking it (and all of the other "ologies"...physiology, endocrinology, etc) that I can fit into my schedule b/c I know they'll help my first year go smoother!

Congrats on your first post! Let me know if you wanna partner up. I love anatomy. I just thought it would be cool to partner with someone who's also on SDN.

I love anatomy too! BMS 305 was the best class I have ever taken and I am back for more! I would love to partner up- this is going to be so much fun!

Alright, I'm an idiot. I just looked on the Continuing Ed page and found Dr. Stewart's Histo class is indeed being offered this Spring. I don't understand why they can't put it on RamWeb where people can find it easier. Hmm. I had already chosen another class b/c I didn't think histo was available. I've got 3 days to decide what to do 😕

i'll find out more on where to find the class. i wonder if it's only offered to distance learners right now. OH, and it turns out that only the first 3 weeks of physiology uses the histology stuff. i dont really get it. lol. but yeah, i was talking about spring 2010. i'll find out how you can enroll in it. 🙂

Hmm, I took Dr. Madl's Histology class while in the MS-B and t/a'ing for 531. (take it, it will make vet school histo easier by far -- half his class last year are now 1st years in vet school) BTW, Dr. Madl graduated from MN CVM (I saw his 4th year picture on the wall in our hospital), and the undergrad endocrinology 430 prof (Jim Graham) got his undergrad here as well,. I actually had his father (a prof in the animal science dept here) guest lecture in one of my classes last semester.

As for my age, don't listen to Greta -- she is WAY older than I am and you can tell her I said so! You are right, I am 22. 😎 Were you in 305 last spring?

For the rest, take my word for it, 531 is really comparable to your first semester vet school anatomy class -- and keep the CD. It will save your butt next fall! I showed my terms list to my profs here and they were VERY impressed. They said they actually would have let me test out of their class! Buy the Pasquini book too. 531 is easier than 305 b/c you have already had 90% of the terms already. t/a for 305 and you will know enough to get an A. And listen to Mark and Dr. Lee. 😉

Livestock Doc,
I took this class and I did not think it was really as much work as a 4 credit hour 300 level class usually is. (Snap compared to biochem). It is really interesting so you might want to consider it.

That's interesting. Small world, huh? Well, I won't be able to fit in Dr. Madl's version of the histo class (schedule conflict. In fact, it conflicts with Mark's class). That's why I'm looking into Dr. Stewart's. And I'll definitely take it. It was just a matter of when.

Well, I'm older than Greta, so you young whippersnappers are way outa my league! 😛 I did not take 305. I took the online version. That's why I had to go in and speak to Mark about taking his class..b/c, technically, 305 is the pre-req. So, I have the cd already and the Pasquini text (and I'll definitely hang on to both for vet school). I can't TA for 305 b/c of schedule conflict and just heavy courseload: 16 credits plus working at the VTH for a research vet. God, I hope I can pull this off! :xf:

Thanks CSU! I'm more than considering it. Just was trying to decide whether to drop the repro class I registered for in order to take histo this Spring. Think I'll stick w/repro and take histo this summer along w/biochem.

I took biochem last summer with Sholders along with physiology...worked out well because it was considered with my app.

Hey Kai, I know 2 of the TA's are: Casey Cooper and Adam Stone. There are 2 gals also. I thought Mark said that one of them is Kelly somebody, and the other is Jennifer?(Jessica?) Sullivan.

I suck at dissection. I don't know how to get all the fat off to see the muscles. 😱

It's not our fault- we just have a rather pudgy dog. It will all be fine!😉
