Random AADSAS Questions: 2018-2019 Edition

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Are the questions at the end of AADSAS (school specific questions) the same as the Supplemental Questions, or will some schools send additional questions after submission?
Those are supplementals. Some schools you have to go to their website to get the supplemental and some schools will email you. It is school dependent and you will need to go to their website to find out what they do.

So I've submitted my application, but I will be getting my radiology certification next week. I know I can add to the licenses section, but will that affect my place in the "queue" of review to my schools? They have notified me that they are complete and will be reviewing them shortly. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but they don't resend my application to the schools which would then "bump" me back in their applications to review, do they?

I know it’s probably too soon, but has anyone’s app been verified yet?

Michigan requires you to have sociology and psychology. I put human development for in for psych and world religions for sociology. Is that ok? Even though the classes aren't the same name as the prerequisite?

Best to contact them directly about it-you should include course descriptions from your school's catalog when you email. If they say it's okay, you can use them, but if they don't approve them, then you'll have saved money by not applying! Hope it works out in your favor though 🙂

Another question. Just submitted an evaluation request for my dentist ( the letter is finished and just has to be uploaded ). I submitted the request like an hour ago and it is says "Status: Requested." I havent received any email notifications. My question is should I receive an email? And what will change when my dentist uploads the letter? Thanks

Once your Dentist uploads the letter it should change to received. You will get an email when this happens.

You will not receive an email notification regarding your letter request. You will likely receive an email once the letter is uploaded. You can always check the Check Status tab for verification.

If you applied last year do you say you're a reapplicant from the 2017 or the 2018 cycle? The application has dates from 2014-2018, and I put 2017 because last year was 2017, but the latest date has 2018 on it so I thought I should pick the latest year.

I put 2018 cycle because we would have started Fall 2018. Not totally sure though.

It makes sense, because it says reapplicant so they know you're a reapplicant and probably applied last cycle, otherwise why have that option. Good luck this cycle!

Hello yall,

I submitted my app last week and the status became complete for all of the schools I've applied on ADEA. This does not mean that the app is already verified yet and the schools have already received my application already. I'm asking this because I still haven't received any email notifications from any of the schools I've applied to that requires a supplementation application+fee.
I'm a bit confused by what you're asking...or telling...but I can tell you that you won't receive any acknowledgement from schools until they say verified. Then you'll start to receive emails, even if you don't have absolutely everything else in.

I am taking a class this summer, but plan on submitting my application before it begins. Do i need to send a transcript request form to the university now or after I take the class?
In case you're still wondering, you do not need to provide transcripts for in-progress or future courses, so just request the transcript ASAP.

For transcript entry, for the subject section, would you put pre-calculus be under calculus or mathematics?

Ok thanks. So then should should College Algebra be under mathematics as well and not algebra?
You can pick whatever as long as it's close. They'll change it if they need to. I mean obviously don't choose biology for a math course lol

UNC’s supplemental asks about my plans after dental school. If I am very interested in specializing, should I select this option, even though it is the unspoken rule to keep your lips shut about this topic?

That's so strange to me. I think if it is something you're interested in you should be allowed to be honest and say that.

You could say that while shadowing the different specialities, blah peaked your interest a bit more. However, general dentistry is my primary focus as of now.

Personally, I’m going to leave it out .

EDIT: Just read the question and saw its a multiple choice type of question. I'm just putting Private Practice. I think this is just a statistics question to gauge people's interests.

Yeah that’s what I’d say for an interview, but this part of the app is just checking a box with no explanation. It gives off a few options to just check

EDIT: gotcha, I’ll probably do the same but not sure yet lol

For when they ask what other schools I'm applying to, should I list all of them? Or just a select few

How many people other than your parent(s) lived in your primary household during the majority of your life from birth to age eighteen?

Does that include me as well or no?

Based off of previous years people have said to include yourself (assume it is checking number of dependents).

Does AADSAS continue to verify GPAs on the weekends or no?

Updating my application with a license (radiology certification) after I have submitted won't make the schools hold off on reviewing my application, will it? Even if I've received emails from most of them saying they are in the process of reviewing my application? I just want to make sure it doesn't somehow require something to be processed again and then somehow move me to the back of the "line."

I'd think not as it's actual employees that verify what you've entered against your transcripts, and people usually don't work weekends. Then once everything matches up, the system will calculate GPAs and that shouldn't take long and can probably happen over the weekend...It'll happen soon don't worry, you're still early.

I don't think so. I think schools just get an update, which is added to your file. Your application might've not even been looked at yet (they send that email to everyone, and they don't have enough employees to view each one at the same time, right?! It's just so you know that your file is complete). But even if it does affect/delay anything, I'd say the "line" isn't very long cause it's still really early in the cycle.

Is it okay to shorten the schools I've applied to in the past when listing the previously applied to schools? This is my third time applying so I have quite a few schools to list...

Thanks I think you’re right! I got an email at 5 this morning that I was verified and to allow 1 hour for the system to calculate my GPAs and be added to my app!

In my opinion, honesty is the best policy. Probably best to be upfront and list all the schools you have applied to. Don't know what you could lose by it. But again, just my opinion. Just send a quick email to AADSAS.

Oh for sure! Sorry that's not what I meant. Like put UIC instead of University of Illinois. I'm running out characters typing the full school name

Where do you put unpaid internships (that were full-time) in experiences. Can you put it under Work or do you need to put it under Volunteer? Especially if it has nothing to do with philanthropy. Can you place it under Work and put under recognition "volunteer"?

For the AADSAS, if you take a class that goes from early august to October and will definitely increase your GPA. Of course, you have to add it on your application but once you take the class. Since it's between the academic update periods can you still send in your transcript as soon as your class is done and have it added to your GPA. How does that work? Can you send in transcripts before the academic update periods?

You can only send updated transcripts during academic update periods to update your GPA.

Can you consider shadowing a general surgeon an experience during dental for the AADSAS?

I do not think that experience falls in the 'dental experience' category, nor do I think it fits well in any other category.
The official guide has this to say about the dental experience category - "Time spent officially following and observing a health care professional at work, preferably a dentist. When listing a dental shadowing experience, please specify the type of dentist you shadowed in the description box (e.g., general dentist, orthodontist, etc.)."

Although the use of the phrase "health care professional" slightly complicates the definition, I think it's still quite clear that they are looking for only dental related activities. Besides, unless you spent a huge amount of your time shadowing the surgeon, leaving it out completely will not affect your application. If you've already got a good stack of applicable experiences, I'd avoid putting it in as it may seem like you are aiming for a certain quantity of experiences, rather than quality.

I recently got a research position. Should I update my application (since I already submitted it) or would updating cause some delays / any problems that are not worth it?

Yes. I put one of my unpaid "work" under work with recognition as volunteer.

I would probably wait until you've gotten some experience to accurately write a description of what you're doing as well as having some hours to report. You can add experiences to your app without causing delays/problems.

Can you submit your AADSAS without your LORs ready/complete?

When they ask “Have you ever been the recipient of any action for unacceptable academic performance or conduct violations (e.g., probation, suspension, dismissal, reprimand, etc.) by any college or school?” Does this include middle school/high school, or just undergrad?

How long does it usually take for the schools to send you out the interviews?
