Rant about it here .....Daily Rants.....

I meant at my university, I didn't know we will have to deal with cadavers, I thought it was like the biology labs where we dissected small animal or looked at individuals organs of certain animals.
You'll most likely have a cadaver. Depending on your curriculum, you'll either dissect the entire body or just the head and neck region.

Good to know that now than later, so I won't be shocked there in the lab.

Anatomy is a process to get into because of how many regulations there are involving your state’s anatomical board. If one person messes something up, every cadaver can get pulled from the state. I go to a large state school with one of the county’s biggest undergrad cadaver lab (we have roughly 30 cadavers), and they protect that program like its Fort Knox

Dang my school doesn’t even let us dissect cats we just view already cut and labeled ones. In my high school anatomy class everyone got to dissect cats. What a rip off.

Our anatomy course is studying a dissected cadaver, but is very hands-on (in the thorax/abdomen/pelvis unit, we would be elbow deep in intestines at times). If you excel in anatomy, you then get to be a dissector the next semester and dissect a cadaver for the new anatomy students. That dissection course is a 40 hr/wk commitment... maybe 50 when you get to head an neck.

Each day I check my aadsas account in hopes that they accidentally release decisions early…So far it has been in the vain, but I will probably keep trying.🙁

Well, I am not there yet, but in my case, I check it for rejections lol.

Best of
luck :luck:

The nature of my volunteering has me on call for going to the hospital. I usually get assigned weekend overnight shifts. Here I am once again in the ER on a nice Saturday night :/ oh well. Doing good for the community I suppose.

I had an interview this week and got to know that I have take undergraduate level microbiology course to fulfill their requirement, even though I am currently taking one for my Master's degree. It is so expensive to take one more undergraduate course as a part-time student, when I am spending so much money for my master education, dental school applications, travel expenses, etc.

Trick for this, wait for them to send you an acceptance and then call them to let them know that due to finances/whatever reason you come up with that you can't take an undergraduate micro and they will likely find your masters micro as meeting their requirement.

There are past threads for a reason!!! Most likely your question about "do schools do post-dec interviews, will they call/email to accept you, etc" is already in past threads. 9.9/10 this has not changed so please look through the past threads before asking your question

Calculating 4 years of out of state public, or private school total costs with interest is not a fun time.
Here's hoping that everyone get's into their cheapest option
I might update and compile a spreadsheet to project the costs if i get a little time in December. I have one that i created last year, but did notice at least one school raising the yearly expected cost by nearly 20k from the year prior, so I'll have to check the data given for this year to make a true projection..stay tuned for updates lol

That would be amazing! I'll definitely be on the look out for that because these numbers are huge

I was talking to a few people this week about waiting for Dec 3. Everyone I'm talking to about dental school-classmates, friends, etc... seem surprised that I've gotten a single interview... I don't know how to take that. I think I should be insulted. Today hasn't been the best day it could be.

Maybe they are thinking you deserve more.
But 1 is enough and I hope you get accepted.

Thank you for hoping that. I wish the same to you!

Judging by their facial reactions though (it was a group conversation, not one-on-one), I think they were surprised that I even applied this year or that I got an interview at all. If I'm being nice about it, I took my DAT in early August, so I guess some assumed I would wait until next cycle to apply.

A few others in the group though... they seemed surprised I would even get an interview....... idk...

Oh, you know what, if they are not close friends, it's time like this one that shows who actually care and who do not.

Whenever I meet a woman that is older than me, she always encourages me to go for it, achieve my dreams, and don't repeat her mistakes. However, there are other people or friends who try to dissuade me from my dreams and you can see it in their eyes that they don't want me to succeed.

So, whatever they think or not,
it does not matter; one dental school thought you deserve a chance, and I hope you will get in. I bet another school or two will send you their invites a week after December the 3rd.

However, there are other people or friends who try to dissuade me from my dreams and you can see it in their eyes that they don't want me to succeed.

I genuinely, never thought about it. Do you have an example from your own experience and how can you tell from their eyes?
I have one med applicant who was strongly discouraging me to apply to dental school with my GPA. At first, she was reasonable and I was considering her options and after letting her know that I still want to try it. Then she got all the messages pouring to dissuade me. At the end I did not get any interviews, but not because of my GPA, but DAT. I know this now because I retook and re-applied.

rant: I love my friends that I made at University but I feel as if my friends were divided into two groups, the pre-med/ pre-dent friends who always would study and bail on so many things to "study", even though half of their study time was just sitting on their phone with a textbook open, and then the other half of my friends were art and business majors who only knew how to party.
I just wished I made more friends who were kinda in the middle, and not like the pre-whatever school friends who would only party like twice a semester when they had no exams or anything going on.
Also when I saw "party" i don't even mean full on raging all the time, I mean like grabbing food and ****, like I have had some pre-med friends tell me they can't get food with me because they are studying for their MCAT that is like 7 months away, and I had a good friend not come to my engagement party because of her DAT 🙁, like she can't miss one night of studying.
I just wish people would be able take things less seriously, I really think there are some things more important in life than a test, or maybe I'm incredibly stupid to think like that. There have been 3 occasions in my undergrad where I dropped studying for a test the night before to help friends who were in CRISIS, because there mental health was way more important than a grade to me.

Not to be a downer, but unfortunately DS is full of these people. Especially the ones that want to specialize. Everyone knows that it is all about rank. Lots of gunners who will gladly watch you struggle in DS since you are one less person they have to outrank.

Of course .... I was not one of them. 🙄

I'm so mad after getting my history paper back. I somehow did terribly. and the highest I can get is a B in the class. this semester my gpa is probably gonna be in the 3.2X range. Makes me wonder if I should even try to be a dentist. My GPA is already low because of my stupidity during the first couple of years of college. Idk what to do.

Don't let your grades hinder you from becoming a dentist! There's so much you can do to still be a good applicant. My prereqs are pretty much Cs and Bs but I killed my TS score on DAT. I was asked about how I did that in my interview! Just make sure to get A's in your future classes or just take additional classes if you're graduating soon. Also, they love seeing who you are outside of grades (show this in your extracurriculars and ps!) Applying early helps your chances too!

My grades are the only thing that would hinder me lol. I have a 2.82 OGPA and a 2.24 SGPA. I'm a senior. My poor grades are because of immaturity, not knowing how to study, and having some personal issues going on. Some days I think about just quitting. After I graduate, I'm gonna retake 2 more classes, then for the 2019-2020 school year do my post bacc (physics 1+ 2-3 bio classes in the fall and physics 2+ 2-3 bio classes in the spring).

After that, I intend to take the DAT and apply to SMP.

I want to be a dentist, I just don't know how realistic it is. My extracurriculars are alright I guess. Multiple years volunteering at my mosque and I have a cool job. I'm gonna start shadowing this break.

I think you got a solid plan. Once you've decided to go down this path, don't ever look back. It is a rough path to get to the top but we can do it!!

I interviewed at USC and UDM and got waitlisted at both. I know it's still "early," but my sGPA is subpar to say the least (~3.1), so I doubt I have a desirable ranking on either waitlist. I'm dreading the thought of having to reapply next cycle. I don't even know how to improve my application without enrolling in a master's program, which is something I really, REALLY don't want to do. :bang:

I understand your frustration, for me, they didn't even make a decision on me! I hope you get accepted in either one of them or your favorite one of the two.

I'm in the exact situation with the stats and all except I interviewed at only one school and got waitlisted (Roseman). It would be emotionally draining to go through this entire process again.

People always say be nice to the waitress and the cashier and this is what I do all the time, I smile and try to be as nice and friendly as I can.
But how about when the cashier and the waitress are rude and mean?
How about that?

& would they really need to be bullies to the people who treat them with respect?

I swear they won't dare to treat the disrespectful customers like that, but if they found someone who is quiet and non-threatening, they would use us as their stress reliever.

and how about the guy who works at the self-checkout center who I told him: Thank you, have a great day and he looked at me weird like how dare I to say thank you to his majesty for helping the customers. He didn't even freaking reply.

and it's normal not to reply back, most employees don't; what bothered me is how he looked at me quizzically....

It's the holiday season; you'd think they would be nicer, but nah it's all about the money here!

Hopefully the TRUMP ADMINISTRATION does something about Student Debt .. .

Some of us are looking at $400,000 to $700,000 worth of ACCUMULATED Student Debt once out of Dental School !!!!

lets say average Dentist makes $150,000 per year or $10,000 per month

Its like living with same income of an UBER driver, But without the HUGE bag of DEBT

YOUR Heart better in this, or Be an awesome Business person, otherwise . .. . Long Life of Regret !

Does the admissions office offer any post-decision assistance in that area?

I volunteer for a group that has a support phone # for 24/7 calls. Getting woken up by fetish callers is the worst because A) I'm getting woken up in the middle of the night B) this person is abusing a community resource and C) I feel dirty/harassed.

Hey, so I'm filling out the background check that some schools are asking for. And this is one of the questions, "Please disclose all residences (including school residences) where you have resided in the past 7 years... insured there are no GAPS in the dates of the addresses you listed (if you list more than one address)"

So do I need to count my school if I stay on campus? Because that is what it says. But that would be confusing, because I come back to my home during the summer and winter. Or I just don't list my campus address?

I think the main reason they ask this is to check the records of that county where you resided. I am in the same situation and will list it

Yeah, but they don't want any gaps. So your list is going to be a back and forth list between semesters. Like you go home, you need to list it. When you go to school, you need to list it again, and so on.

Pretty sure I literally listed the mailing address of where I stayed on campus, and then just any subsequent moves during school to those addresses. I didn't list any time that I went home for a month for break. That would be outrageously stupid. A semester off on the other hand, I would list.

I’m just going to list the address(es) where I resided while in school for the entire time that I was in that school. I went back home for a max of maybe 1 month so that’s more like vacation.

So, I am trying to watch Naruto on my Ipad at our gym
but instead of watching Sasuke fight with his older brother in their crucial last fight and let me tell you this, the whole anime depends on this fight. From day 1, you watch this anime, you know Sasuke wants to fight his older brother, and we waited for 350 episodes for this scene. ( No Spoiler plz)

But instead of enjoying that episode, I have to listen to the stupid loud music they are forcing on everyone at the gym.
I have been a member for the last 7 years and the music was never that loud, I politely objected last time and the employee said it wasn't in their hand.

I again politely complained about it today too and turned out, it is in their hand, the guy lowered the volume immediately.

Can you imagine the first employee let me write a suggestion paper and turned out it all just a sham, and she could have easily lowered the music down if she wanted?

By the way: The gym has tv in front of each equipment, ((% of people don't listen to the gym music, but to their music or watch tv programs.

Why're you watching anime in the gym though lol. Isn't the gym for like....working out

I didn't explain. I put the ipad in front of me when I use the treadmill, the elliptical or the bicycle. Any cardio machine has a tv or a place to put the ipad or the phone. Of course, I don't watch anime when I do weight training.

The point is even when I tried to listen to music on my phone, I couldn't hear anything because their music is way too loud.
