If it makes you feel better, I'm the same way in terms of being more laid-back (so to speak)! There aren't many pre-vet students at my school, so I can't directly compare, but the really hardcore pre-health people I've interacted with have typically been people aiming for human medicine, not animals. One thing that really, REALLY bothers me in general is the culture against getting adequate sleep - sleep is so, SO important for literally every aspect of your physical, mental, and emotional health. What a pity nobody really knows or acknowledges it and the education system pushes us to a wildly unhealthy sleep-deprived state. Imo you should be proud that you actually prioritize getting adequate sleep instead of trying to brag and beat everyone else for "fewest hours slept" - that will pay you off much better in the long term! It might not seem like it now, but in being sure to give yourself much-needed breaks for eating/socializing/sleeping, you're actually showing a work-life balance that will be essential in the long run, especially for medical fields! I'd argue that would be a strength, not a weakness! I wouldn't worry about the applicant pool too terribly much - just get that bag with physics (something I'm worried about myself atm lol), keep your grades up, get your requirements, and keep that healthy work-life balance, and you can even highlight that in your application if you wish! You will be much less likely to have health/stress issues and burnout down the line if you keep taking care of yourself like that 🙂 speaking from personal experience, disregarding everything in life except for studies is a recipe for equivalent academic performance at great cost to wellbeing... not worth the trade
