Good job! A hint though....she will catch it even faster if you give the treat right after pottying outside. Otherwise, all she knows is that she got a treat for coming in and sitting.

Congrats on the baby!🙂

 I was just thinking about this! Unfortunately, since I got her on Monday our temp HIGHS have been in the negatives. 😱 Brrrrr. I usually forget to bring the treat with me, as I just want to get out and back in! (I think I will put a ziplock baggy of them in my coat pocket. 👍

Teach her to go on command while she's still so young! It's magic! Saves so much time and you don't have to worry if your dog didn't want to go before you went to work or something. It start to be like a normal command and they do it.

I always command her to 'Go Potty' before she actually does it. :naughty: (I love this smiley!)

👍 Soft treats are easiest too since they don't care how much they get just as long as they get something. Yeah, I hate freezing cold weather!

And if you utilize the go potty command then it speeds everything up! 👍 If you work hard now then it will pay off as she gets older. 🙂

And I dig this smilie too :naughty:

Beginning Novice (which is what she just did) is an optional titling class and not offered at every obedience show. I didn't have TOO much trouble finding shows with it though.

1. Heeling on leash (fast, slow, turns)
2. Heeling on leash (figure 8)
3. Sit for exam (sit the dog, go to end of 6-foot leash, judge comes to dog and briefly pets on head, then walks away. Handler returns to heel position)
4. Sit-stay (sit the dog, walk around the ring, return to heel position)
5. Recall

In Novice Obedience, you have the addition of heeling off-leash, the sit for exam becomes a stand and the judge spends a little longer touching the dog (may run his/her hands down the body as well). There's recall as well, then a one-minute group sit stay and 3-minute group down stay

Interesting, thanks. The heel is something we'll need to work on. She's used to having to pull a tiny bit on the leash like she would with a harness, so we'll see how that goes. And then the stranger thing.

I'd recommend taking an official obedience class just so you can get the hang of how the judge will tell you to do things, what commands are acceptable in the ring, etc. I know that really helped my nerves. Jenny's been going for two years 🙂

There was one lady who was also very new to showing but she didn't understand everything the judge said or stuff like that and I could tell she was very nervous about it. There's enough to be nervous about...

Honestly, pulling a bit is only going to dock you a few points. It's really hard to disqualify on the heeling portions since they're on leash and can't really go anywhere. I really had to work with Jenny on her stays and recalls with very heavy distractions since any break in the stay or a non-response to the recall command gets you a DQ. And she normally has perfect, super excited recall and no trouble with stays, even in class with lots of people around. The shows are just a totally different game for her.

Ivy's stay is perfect. Too good sometimes. haha We tell her to stay somewhere and forget about it and when we come back 15 minutes later, she's still there.

Recall is good too usually. What if the dog jumps up at you at that time? She's so excited about recall because she knows she's doing it well that she likes to jump up and give me a hug.

I'm not sure about jumping on the recall. They're supposed to come to you and sit front. I don't know if that would DQ you or just dock points.

Aaaand I had dairy queen for dessert tonight so typing DQ makes my stomach hurt all over again =P

It's something that is probably easily fixed, but I just love how excited she gets. 😍

We're trying agility first but if there's anything wrong with her hips or she doesn't like it, then we're gonna try something else.

We started Jenny in agility and she lurved it so much but then she got arthritis in her back 🙁 She's almost 9.

If you can find classes in your area it makes it that much more fun. Jenny's been going to intermediate/advanced obedience class for 2 years just because she enjoys it. Then she got good enough to where I considered putting her in shows.

There's a beginner agility class in March that I might be doing. There will be at least one other released guide dog in there (also a shepherd, I used to help with her 😍) and maybe another one (a super awesome bouncy poodle). It'd be a ton of fun to be with them all the time.

My sheepdog lovesssss agility! I just wish there was a decent trainer around here with reasonably priced classes. I'd love to get her into another class or two at some point.

Once upon a time I tried to train her for novice obedience and the CGC test and all that...epic fail  She mastered everything except the "sit for petting/exam" and "greet a friendly stranger" type of things.
If we had had a female judge we probably would have passed the second time, but nooo, we had to get the big burly bearded guy (Noelle's worst fear!)
With more time we probably could have gotten there, but then we moved away from that area and there is just nothing around here that anyone recommends (And a lot of "stay away from that place" type of deal")

I heard a lot of good things about the agility trainer here, so we're gonna give them a try. Just sent them a message. Hopefully there's still room in the March class.

I think I am finally safe to say that I am actually feeling like a normal human being again and not like an emotional train wreck... 😀

I now know to never take that medication again... this past week has been horrible, but I am now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Thankfully!! 😀 😀

Good. Keep us posted. I'm so glad you're feeling better.

One of my very nervous dogs at work had a breakthrough today. When I came to visit him he was running around and play bowing at me. He's come such a long way from cowering in the back of his kennel when anyone walked by. Hopefully he'll be good enough to go to adopt this next week.

Where is the drunk thredad? Went out with my friends to celebrate vet school and it was awesome. I'm the biggest bum ever and can't stay up late so we went out for dinner and drinks. There was much drunknig and now I am happy and it's time for bed. There would have been more if I didn't have class at 9 tomorrow. oh well!

I had my first spinning class today! The teacher gave us a much better explanation of drafting fiber than I'd gotten before, AND we all got little drop spindles and some BFL fiber to take home, PLUS we each get our own wheel for the six weeks of the class! I'm FINALY going to learn wheel spinning! I am so excited guys I can't even tell you.

The tiny sadness here is that we're on upright wheels (because they're much cheaper) rather than traditional wheels, and so I can't quite have my fantasy of being in ye olde timey village yet. But soon!

I lost about 15 pounds since I started going to the gym in Decemer. Yay!

My boyfriend also bought me an awesome raw vegan "cheesecake" from my favorite stall at the farmers market for my birthday. It's hella expensive, but soon worth it.

I can't wait for my birthday. A great crowd is going to be there. Luckily I ended things with my best friend. Last year, she grabbed my phone from me at the bar and shoved it down her shirt because I "shouldn't be texting on my birthday". She volunteered to watch purses and then flipped s***t because her favorite song came on and she couldn't go downstairs to dance to it. No drama queens will be there. Should be a good time.

And I got a $130 pair of BOGS on sale for $35+shipping. They will be great for camping.

I made a few bracelets for a cat rescue to auction off. They were a hit. I have a few people who want some made for family members, so that will be a little more money coming my way.

Got my first pair of Toms today!!
So comfy!! 😍

Puppy was playing hardcore with her kong ball, then all the sudden stopped, ran across the room and grabbed her teddy bear and went to sleep in her bed. So cute! 😍

I was JUST telling my best friend that I want the silver sparkly ones for wedding dress shopping this weekend 🙂

I freaking LOVE the dollar store. I came home from a long weekend today and the apartment was disgusting! So I went down to the dollar store and bought drain degunker, toilet bowl cleaner, dishwashing detergent, trash bags, laundry soap, and some gummy worms for studying. All for only $6.34. Now I just have to find the time to actually clean!

Made the bed and when I came back from studying I found this...

So my roommate last year got accepted to Mizzou...later that day my dog ate her acceptance letter...she had to call admissions to tell them a dog ate her letter and see if they could send another. They said they'd never hear that one before...

I'm planing on keeping mine at work in case she gets hungry again!

Happy Birthday! :hardy:

I'm so happy my friend dragged me to the disability resource center here. I didn't want to because I didn't wanna be treated "special." We just don't do that in Germany. But man have they been nice. And they're trying super hard to get it done for my tests tomorrow even though its super late. Thanks to that friend for making me go to them.

That is awesome!

I am trying a naturopathic doctor for the first time next week. I need a different approach to my fatigue and lack of concentration. My doctors keep making me get blood work, shuffling me around to specialists and not giving me any advice on how to handle my problems. It is going to be nice to sit down with a doctor for an hour and a half instead of the usual 5-15 minutes and discuss what I think is wrong with me.
