I spent some time in pre-allo this morning and let me just say, I love you guys.

1. I survived the 10+ hours of driving yesterday without having a panic attack. Thumbs up for the Honda Civic! Our 2012 model (a rental car) had 5-star crash test ratings in all categories and honestly, it just felt really safe and sturdy.

2. We chose an apartment! We saw five and the last one was perfect - the biggest, the best condition, the closest to the vet school, etc. The landlord was super nice and even offered to pet-sit for us if we ever needed it. So we signed a check then and there and now it's really official! I can't wait to move, it's going to be so hard to bide my time until August. 😱

I'm glad you made it safely 🙂

I was disappointed that every cool selective (our electives) was closed by the time it got to my turn, and all I got was practice experience (aka shadow for two weeks)...

...but in vain hope I emailed a nearby all-avian clinic (owned by a board-certified avian vet), and by some insane stroke of luck he doesn't have any other students there during our selective weeks! 😀 So instead of something boring for two weeks, I get to learn all about birdies from someone who knows way, way more about them than I can ever comprehend.

I am so freaking excited. 😍

I found out that my sub-par Fall semester GPA and my AP credits allow me to transfer to NC State for UG. I want to transfer because my current school is bumming me out and we don't have any opportunities for pre-vets. I just hope my sister wasn't kidding when she said she'd house me. 🙂

Excellent! Glad you felt safe in the car. Hopefully with time, your anxiety will recede. :xf:

Congrats on finding a good place to live plus a nice landlord!!

yay! 👍

my intracellular staining worked! i'm not the best at picking up new techniques in the lab so i'm super happy that it turned out ok. 😀

I'm glad you made it safely 🙂

Thank you guys, seriously. 😳

I totally had vet barbie when I was a kid! That was the only career barbie that I was interested in at the time. 😉

omigod. I had no idea this was a thing! 😵

I never wanted or had Barbies or any other dolls, other than a Cabbage Patch Kids one my grandmother really tried to make me like when I was really little. That experiment failed.

Try to contain your shock, everyone.

I had normal barbies. But I would wrap them up in black ribbon until they had head to toe black body suits and then they would be ninja barbies. They always kicked more butt than those stupid gi joes my step brothers had.

I got an 82 on my ochem test! Super excited! I now have a 69 in the class. Since we have a drop test, if I do really well on the next two tests, I may be able to get a good grade!

Great job PP 🙂 OChem sucked my soul too. You can do it!

I literally studied 12 hours the day before and the day of the test I had 4 lectures before and studied another 5 hours. I'm so happy that torture paid off.

Found out how to make a cheap and huge bulletin board using a giant foam board. Not sure why I never thought of it. Oh and going to the school psychologist is making my days a little more bearable. Tonight I'm feeling great.

gave this to our "vet school problems" fb group with the following caption: "for the pony vet, what the author doesnt realize is that while yes, barbie is storing all of her horse medical supplies in a nightstand sized drawer, all you really need to treat a horse is a needle, syringe, and a bottle of euthasol 😉 still doesn't bode well for the pony though"

Good to hear! Hope it's not just vet school that's putting you on the couch...though it wouldn't surprise me. A little intimidated by what I'm signing up for this fall...

It's not vet school related, just old issues that are creeping their way back into my life.

I think this belongs in the "rave" thread.

So, yesterday was SO's birthday. We went to busch gardens and then his mom and her bf took us to eat in ybor. On the way to the restaraunt they were like "hey so, after we eat we are going to go to a dubstep rave tour in ybor, no big deal." Um, wow, what?

His mom is a partier but SO and I are both introverts for the most part. But we went. My goodness, I never thought id enjoy something like that but it was incredible! Drinking my weight in rum and coke probably helped but it was 4 hours of complete mayhem.

I needed that sort of crazy "get away from everything" night. The people watching was incredible, especially because about 3/4 of the people there were tripping on something. Lots of glowsticks and laser gloves. So unusual.

Sometimes, when I need to tack up pictures/notes for a class, I will use the styrofoam-y sheets you get out of packing boxes. Perfect for pushpins and free from any appliance store!

😍 I love dubstep! I also love people-watching when it's a crowd where I don't know anyone.

I successfully placed IV catheters in a ferret and two rabbits today! I also intubated the ferret! YAY

I loved going to ncsu for undergrad! There are lots of opportunities, but be warned, there are also lots and lots of prevets. You kind of have to get creative. If you have any questions about the area or school PM me. 🙂

Nice! I'm curious where you put IV's in a ferret. It's already a PITA to draw blood.

I don't know how any people here are serious horse foke or dressage for that matter but I'm gona rave about this anyway. I've owned my Welsh Cob for 3 going on 4 years and we had a hellacious beginning. It starts with pulling him out of a field when he was 5 and starting him myself. Anyway I've been working with my trainer and put him in part time training about 6 months ago and have been back to a regular lesson schedule and today we did canter loops while holding the counter canter for 3 strides. OMG it was glorious! I want to earn my bronze medal in dressage and I think we are on our way. 😀😀😀

I disliked dubstep until last night. It was insane, those shows have awesome energy and you can dance to it as well as get the rock and roll feel. I will deff be going to another one.

Cephalic just as you would with a cat or dog. First you gas them down in a box....makes everything go smooth like butter! :meanie:

Welsh Cob, my old trainer had me train a new horse once. He was out in the pasture for three years without contact and we're not sure what he knew before then. Every little step was a huge accomplishment with him!

I was never a dubstep fan until I worked as a bouncer at a show on my undergrad campus. Dealing with the the tripped out and wasted kids trying to sneak onto the floor without tickets was a PITA, but the show was so fun and high energy that I've loved the music ever since. Definitely want to see a show where I get to be in the crowd instead of the sober one dealing with the crowd!

Congratulations! It takes a lot of time and effort to train your horse and get them just right. I'm currently in the process of training my rescue mini to drive. 😉

The whole vet part was pretty funny... but the part that really got me was the part about the blood pressure cuff. I couldn't stop laughing.

that was also the line that got me laughing hysterically. also the arctic rescuer. :meanie:

Thanks guys! It was a nice pick me up after the CFIA said "Thanks but no thanks" to my internship application.

At least you got to apply! I emailed USDA FSIS and they said applications would open "February or March" for a vet student position. USA.jobs says "OPEN PERIOD: Wednesday, January 4, 2012 to Tuesday, January 24, 2012"

😡

(Fortunately I have something else awesome lined up. I was just hoping to get something paid...)
