Also got my "Santa" present yesterday (one of the downsides of living 2500 miles from home). It's a Samsung Galaxy SBlaze. I knew I was getting a smartphone for Christmas. I learned it was an Android phone when my mom and brother started using facebook on their phones. However, I never expected such a nice phone. It's pretty awesome.

My thought exactly. :laugh:

I'm trying to learn how to cook and will be making risotto. We'll see how that goes. To me, it's complicated. Haha

We had a kalamata olive and caper risotto with swordfish steaks the night we were engaged. Mmmm
 
Had this conversation with my mentor...

Her: "Getting nervous [about grad school] yet?"
Me: "Yeah. Just working myself into an anxiety attack all weekend."
"Well, I'm adding to it. I'm talking about foster parenting in my parent-child class on April 15th and I want you to come in and guest lecture." (My independent research is on foster parents and transitions in their care)
"Well, that doesn't scare me as much as I think it should."
"Good. I'll put your name in the syllabus."
"...that scares me."

So! Apparently I'm giving a guest lecture to her class. 😳😳 YAY~

And I met with the prof I'm TAing for this semester and we set up exactly what I'm doing and I get to GRADE stuff!

Andand I got to chat with some profs today and had fun with them and I love my department omg. Had a long chat with one of my LOR writers who is like the most fantastic lady and I am feeling much better today, although I have stuff to get done. She's awesome and totally understands where I'm coming from, even with my family issues! She also said some really, really nice stuff about me and I was really surprised to hear I'm thought of so highly. So that was nice.

I make it simple. I saute the mushrooms, then put them in a bowl. Then I rinse the rice and toast it in the original pan. I use one pound of rice and one carton of broth. You just add a little broth at a time and stir and add some more. It does take about half an hour, but it's yummy.

I finally, finally got a hands-on volunteer position at a SA vet clinic! Two of them! I started at one clinic this week, and I start at the other next week. Only 11hours/week combined of time, but I'm so happy!

Every SA clinic I've gone to for the past year and a half (dozens of clinics, literally), has either been completely full, not taken any volunteers or shadows, or only allowed short-term shadowing. But both of these clinics say I can volunteer with them for as long as I have time! 😀
 
Finalllly home from Missouri!! Oh man how I've missed my bed! I plan on being lazy all day tomorrow, until the game comes on so I can root for my :luck: IRISH :luck: Yaaay for the BCS championship game 😀
 
I feel really, really good right now.. I am relaxed, have energy, feeling great, no headache, no pain... It is nice to have a moment like this. 🙂















(And just so no one gets on my case: I am still going on Wednesday to the doctor, just trying to enjoy the fact that in this moment I feel great. 🙂)
 
I got my Boston on Saturday. He's super sweet and super cute!!! And my anti-social Chi likes him too!
 
I couldn't get myself to quit raising my dog and just got her back after not seeing her for month. She went nuts when she saw me. Man I missed her. Love that girl. And she got huge!

I got this game app where your task is to speedily edit spelling/grammar, and it's super addicting. We haven't really had much spelling/grammar spats on here lately, but I thought I'd share for other anal retentive nit pickers who I know exist!

I finished this fall and really, really miss running. I never was a runner so it's kind of funny that I miss it😀 Plus we have a gorgeous national park up here and I'd go through the trails every day.

How do you do it??? I've fallen off the Couch to 5k bandwagon like 3 times in the past year and it makes me sad... I can't seem to make it past week 2. I'm like the laziest person in the world, and it bugs me so much (but apparently not enough to make myself change). Mahhhhhhh

Zombies! I would shoot myself if I were just running boring audio cues, but it's got a storyline, items to collect, etc. Also keeping track on runkeeper/fitocracy... I like seeing the distances, rate, whatever and seeing myself beat my records.

Welp, all my job and/or PhD applications are all sent out (yay!). Nothing to do but sit back and wait (boo). No idea where I'll be next July.....but hopefully somewhere else. I LOVE this residency and I LOVE my colleagues, but I need a change of scenery.
 
I just got accepted to my first-choice program, AND they're paying up to $500 in travel support to have me come out for a welcome weekend where I get to meet current graduate students and faculty, AND they're arranging housing and transportation for the whole weekend, AND the professor who emailed me (who is on Sabbatical) is going to try and come down for the weekend to be available, AND OMG I am sooooo excited!

Oh, and my mentor is already talking about what I might do with several acceptances and stipends and funding and...! I am SO excited to know I have some place I'm going in the fall! I'm going to be a graduate student!!! 😍 😍 😍

(Note to those who don't know - I am not a pre-vet student! 😳 )
