"5 to 7" days is business speak for 2 weeks. I would sit tight, and give them a chance. These people are busy, are in the middle of the application process, and are surely in knee-deep of applicants' materials.

You got the e-mail. Surely, that is more than sufficient at this time to assure your place on their program. I too received the news on the 14th, and I have not received the news about the merit. So what?

Calling them may ease your worries but will slow down their process. The more questions, emails, and phone calls they have to answer, the less time is spent doing the work that would facilitate all the things we hope to hear from them.

Sorry for the Yale rejections guys. I guess I'll too hear the same news pretty soon. They received my app on 11/21, Yale notified me about the app being complete on 12/19 and 1/3. So, i shall join the Yale rejection club probably in the next couple days.

You are right. I just tend to get so anxious sometimes and create some weird reasons for why the packet hasn't arrived. It's kinda relieving to see that I'm not the only one who hasn't received it.

Obviously an application is not 100% GRE scores and they don't place a huge bearing on the entire application, but a score in the 18th percentile, we all know, is extremely low. Yes, the poster might have a slim chance if they have a stellar rest of their application, but I don't think it is uncalled for to say the chances are very slim. They need to re-take the GRE. With a 3.5 and those experiences they should be able to score a bit higher IMHO. No need for you to be sarcastic and entirely unhelpful and offer no additional advice to the poster.

I agree with you gumby. I know not all schools will disregard an applicant based on low gre scores, but 18% is really low, and they may be concerned about that. It's always worth it to try to take it again. I guess the best bet would be to contact the schools directly and ask them.👍

Hey!

I do agree with most of the other people that responded-- your scores might cause some problems for you. I would really recommend retaking the GRE, but it looks like you've already applied, so retaking really wouldn't benefit you much at this point in time, in my opinion.

You do have some pretty good statistics otherwise, and that may be enough to help you out. Last year I had a terrible GPA (2.7) and an okay GRE (159, 153, 4.5) and actually got into two schools, and waitlisted at two others, so you never know.

I ended up needing to defer because my number of transfer credits meant I needed to stay another semester before getting my BS, but I wasn't accepted at my top choice(s) anyways, so it worked out. I'm applying this year with almost a 3.0, and with a 162 V 153 Q 4.5, so hopefully I'll get into one of my top choices, but if not I do have the school I deferred at.

If you should happen to not get in anywhere, or don't really get in somewhere you'd like, that may be an option for you too-- deferring and working on your GRE, if you think it necessary.

Yes, this is funny. 😀

"Other Names" is usually used if you have had...well...other names. 😉 People change names for a variety of reasons (e.g., maiden name to married name). Some schools will ask both your current and "other" names for, say, the purposes of clarifying application materials where your name may be different in some things (e.g., financial information). For example, the name on your transcripts may be different because you got married at some point during or after graduate studies or because you changed it, I don't know, to be cool, perhaps. 😀 The name on your bank checks may be different because your current/new name has not yet been incorporated onto your bank accounts - another example. This will help schools "put 2 and 2 together" when organizing application materials. It has no bearing on admissions, it is for the sake of efficiency.

If you do not have "other names," then I would leave it blank. I left mine blank.

Applied: Arizona (HBHP) -- UA App 9/25, SOPHAS 1/3 (my 3rd rec was dragging his feet), confirmed received by UA on 1/15

So now I wait. I already live in Tucson and UA has a lot of great opportunities for work with Native Americans.

ETA: I know how dreadful my writing score is. I also remember staring at the question being like "What the???" I'm sort of hoping on other factors of my app (and that I've already taken a grad class at UA and done pretty well) overruling it.

Congrats to everyone else who was accepted to UNC! Did you notice that in the letter under "Semester" is says "Fall 2013--Deadline 2/12/13"? I can't imagine that's the deadline for accepting their offer, but it still makes me a little nervous. The Admitted Students page says you don't have to accept financial aid offer before April 15, but doesn't say anything about the offer itself. Does anyone have insight into this?

I also applied to UW, specifically the Community-Oriented Public Health Practice (COPHP) program. They told me they wouldn't review applications until early February and that I wouldn't receive an admissions decision until mid-late February. This program only admits 14 people though and places a lot of emphasis on getting the right mix of people, so their process may differ from other departments. They're my first choice school so waiting is hard!

Nope, I was accepted about three weeks ago on OPUS and still haven't received an email or acceptance package.
