Accepted: UTexas-Houston 😍

Congrats on your acceptance!! 🙂 Did UT-Houston notify you through email? May I ask when you submitted your application?

Thanks guys. Kageh...Do post what they tell you when you call them tomorrow...

I am amazed by the amount of worry that at times filters through here. 😀

"5 to 7" days is business speak for 2 weeks. I would sit tight, and give them a chance. These people are busy, are in the middle of the application process, and are surely in knee-deep of applicants' materials.

You got the e-mail. Surely, that is more than sufficient at this time to assure your place on their program. I too received the news on the 14th, and I have not received the news about the merit. So what?

Calling them may ease your worries but will slow down their process. The more questions, emails, and phone calls they have to answer, the less time is spent doing the work that would facilitate all the things we hope to hear from them.

Sorry for the Yale rejections guys. I guess I'll too hear the same news pretty soon. They received my app on 11/21, Yale notified me about the app being complete on 12/19 and 1/3. So, i shall join the Yale rejection club probably in the next couple days.

Good luck with rest of your apps!!

You are right. I just tend to get so anxious sometimes and create some weird reasons for why the packet hasn't arrived. It's kinda relieving to see that I'm not the only one who hasn't received it.

You are right 😀...But with the rejection and all, I just wanted to confirm my acceptance from BU😉

I am getting so antsy - I haven't heard from any schools yet, but I applied a little bit later. I would be happy with an acceptance to any one of my schools - I am just anxious for decisions!

I am holding out hope for Yale (got the complete e-mail on 1/17/13), but in reality they just probably haven't gotten around to rejecting me yet 🙄

Has Yale sent out any acceptances yet?

One of my friends got her acceptance into Yale today.

Why is Yale emailing me AGAIN saying my application is complete, they already emailed me twice saying that😡

And seriously Harvard's summer school email was such a bummer.

Which program at Yale did your friend apply to? I also recieved another email from Yale today infroming me that my application is complete. I submitted late in December.
This is causing so much anxiety.

Hello, great MPH people! I need some serious opinions!

I have a pretty decent GPA (3.5) from the number one public university with majors in Public Health and African Studies. I also have three international public health experiences, research experiences, a publication and leadership experience. I even have letters of rec from the professors I travelled abroad with and even a professor from Vanderbilt University School of Med. My downfall is my GRE (145 V, 143 Q and 4.5 AW). I applied to UMich HBHE, Tulane Global Community Health, Boston U's International Health and UOklahoma's Health Promotion Sciences. What are my chances of getting in to any of the first three? Please help me 😕:scared:

I just received an unofficial admission to University of South Carolina. However, they switched me to the MSPH instead of MPH in epi that I applied for because they think it more suits me.

Okay, you have posted this all over the forum about 10 times in the past few days. I already gave you my opinion that your chances are extremely slim to none with a 18th percentile quantitative score. I don't think anyone will have many other opinions than re-take the GRE - like I already said.

...yes, because all admissions folks make their decisions based entirely on the GREs.

I made it pretty clear that I was giving my opinion. If you had another opinion than maybe you should tell the poster instead of commenting negatively about mine. Obviously an application is not 100% GRE scores and they don't place a huge bearing on the entire application, but a score in the 18th percentile, we all know, is extremely low. Yes, the poster might have a slim chance if they have a stellar rest of their application, but I don't think it is uncalled for to say the chances are very slim. They need to re-take the GRE. With a 3.5 and those experiences they should be able to score a bit higher IMHO. No need for you to be sarcastic and entirely unhelpful and offer no additional advice to the poster.

I agree with you gumby. I know not all schools will disregard an applicant based on low gre scores, but 18% is really low, and they may be concerned about that. It's always worth it to try to take it again. I guess the best bet would be to contact the schools directly and ask them.👍

Hey!

I do agree with most of the other people that responded-- your scores might cause some problems for you. I would really recommend retaking the GRE, but it looks like you've already applied, so retaking really wouldn't benefit you much at this point in time, in my opinion.

You do have some pretty good statistics otherwise, and that may be enough to help you out. Last year I had a terrible GPA (2.7) and an okay GRE (159, 153, 4.5) and actually got into two schools, and waitlisted at two others, so you never know.

I ended up needing to defer because my number of transfer credits meant I needed to stay another semester before getting my BS, but I wasn't accepted at my top choice(s) anyways, so it worked out. I'm applying this year with almost a 3.0, and with a 162 V 153 Q 4.5, so hopefully I'll get into one of my top choices, but if not I do have the school I deferred at.

If you should happen to not get in anywhere, or don't really get in somewhere you'd like, that may be an option for you too-- deferring and working on your GRE, if you think it necessary.

Good luck to you in whatever you may choose to do!

Is there anyone here who applied to Yale's EMD department and has received a decision?

I am applying at London School of Tropical Med. In their application section:

I am sooooooooooooo confused. :-/

Yes, this is funny. 😀

"Other Names" is usually used if you have had...well...other names. 😉 People change names for a variety of reasons (e.g., maiden name to married name). Some schools will ask both your current and "other" names for, say, the purposes of clarifying application materials where your name may be different in some things (e.g., financial information). For example, the name on your transcripts may be different because you got married at some point during or after graduate studies or because you changed it, I don't know, to be cool, perhaps. 😀 The name on your bank checks may be different because your current/new name has not yet been incorporated onto your bank accounts - another example. This will help schools "put 2 and 2 together" when organizing application materials. It has no bearing on admissions, it is for the sake of efficiency.

If you do not have "other names," then I would leave it blank. I left mine blank.

Experience/Research (please, be brief): 4 years as a consultant doing data analysis & project management (focused on healthcare companies for the past 2 years), various volunteer work with community organizations including establishing a mentoring program for Filipino Americans

Waitlisted:

UCLA CHS department has been reviewing my application since 1/16.
SFSU couldn't find my transcript (since I sent it before submitting the CSU Mentor app), but I expect that to be resolved within the next week.
No word from Columbia.

BTW, new to the forum. 🙂 I've been trolling, but figured I'd sign up since I'll be looking for support/feedback as I make my decision.

I've been lurking around...mostly don't want to talk because it seems like I'm the only person applying to Arizona.

UGPA: 3.76 (state school known for science/engineering)
Major/Minor: Microbiology/Military History
GRE (including date): 159 V (84%), 153 Q (65%), AW 3.0 (30%), taken May 2009
Experience/Research (please, be brief): worked as a MT for a year, 3 years of research (1 year genetics, 2 years microbiology--Vibrios and Pseudomonads), now work in a program that encourages kids from rural areas and low SES to pursue health careers, did volunteer hand-washing lessons with elementary schools during flu season

Applied: Arizona (HBHP) -- UA App 9/25, SOPHAS 1/3 (my 3rd rec was dragging his feet), confirmed received by UA on 1/15

So now I wait. I already live in Tucson and UA has a lot of great opportunities for work with Native Americans.

ETA: I know how dreadful my writing score is. I also remember staring at the question being like "What the???" I'm sort of hoping on other factors of my app (and that I've already taken a grad class at UA and done pretty well) overruling it.

Yes, I applied to way too many schools. Yes, there is a reason behind it lol.

Thanks guys. Kageh...Do post what they tell you when you call them tomorrow...
Hi! So, I emailed them today, and they replied saying that they had sent the acceptance emails a bit early but some packets were actually mailed this week. Mine was mailed on Jan. 23rd, so that explains why it hasn't arrived. Pheew, I thought they had the wrong address or something.

Just got accepted to Michigan's MHSA program! 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

Thanks for everyone for the comments and support. When I say blessings can happen, blessings can occur. I was the pest that kept posting his profile on the forums about how he did bad on the GRE ( 143 Q and 145 V; 4.5 AW). It must have been my experiences, my grades, letters of rec; mostly God--because I was accepted into UMich HBHE today. 🙂

I am so happy! That was my top choice.

Hello everyone,

I was officially accepted to UNC's HBHE today. They sent me an email directing me to the application portal, where there was a link to my letter.

Congrats to everyone else who was accepted to UNC! Did you notice that in the letter under "Semester" is says "Fall 2013--Deadline 2/12/13"? I can't imagine that's the deadline for accepting their offer, but it still makes me a little nervous. The Admitted Students page says you don't have to accept financial aid offer before April 15, but doesn't say anything about the offer itself. Does anyone have insight into this?

I also applied to UW, specifically the Community-Oriented Public Health Practice (COPHP) program. They told me they wouldn't review applications until early February and that I wouldn't receive an admissions decision until mid-late February. This program only admits 14 people though and places a lot of emphasis on getting the right mix of people, so their process may differ from other departments. They're my first choice school so waiting is hard!

I was thinking that it was the date you needed to let them know by, interesting you were told 2/12 mine says 2/26. Does anyone know when they typically tell you what the financial aid offer is?

Congrats on all the acceptances!!! Does anyone kow whether someone heard back from the epi dept of UNC?

Hello> congratulations to every one who got admitted. 😀 Just received a mail from John Hopkins 2 days ago saying that I am accepted for the Mph course. 😀

has anyone actually received an Email or package from Emory about their acceptance? I can see the online decision via OPUS and I was accepted, but still have not received any emails or packages.
