I just got mine today too. 😱

Did anyone receive a call today or yesterday from St. John's? I got one early evening today, but my phone cut off and the number doesn't work when I try to call back...also all the offices were closed at this time. Frustrating!!!!!!!!!😡:scared: And apperently their interviews are next week..

Just a question to all you guys and gals.... if you did not receive an interview invite to one of your schools, can you pretty much say that school is no longer thinking of you as a future student? So, does no interview invite = rejection? or have people heard of situations where someone has been offered admission without the interview?????? Just curious.

I have been assuming it means rejection, but I have heard of people getting real late interviews out of the blue, so I wouldn't give up until you hold a rejection letter...and even that may not be the end of the story. I think Therapist4change has a story about that, but I am not sure if it was him.

got my first rejection of the year and it is from Baylor via snail mail

I just got a rejection letter from Colorado State University - Counseling today 2/24/2007. The rejection included a checklist of why you were not accepted (i.e. GRE, GPA, research experience, limitation on enrollment). It was very helpful! Luckily, they only checked "Limitations on enrollment." They had 219 applications and only 8 slots.

Wow, I wish all schools would do that!

I received letters in the mail rejecting me from Eastern Michigan and West Virginia.🙁

Its finally official. I got a letter in the mail today that told me I was rejected from Berkeley (PhD).

Me too. Good to see my application fee went toward a worthwhile expense! (Seriously, though, I really appreciated getting an official letter!!)

C'est la vie! 😛

Hey TRUFLARE-
From what I understand, it is certainly possible to not get an interview invite, but still be considered for admission, sometimes without interviewing at all! I think this is pretty uncommon, but it goes back to the whole probability thing: if a professor interviews 5 people for 3 slots...and offers 3 people admission- what if those three people have turned down the offer because the've received an offer somewhere else? And what if the two alternates who were not originally offered admission, too, have turned down the offer? Then they have to go to the pool of applicants. At some schools, they have waitlists for interviews, so, if you haven't been put on one of those but you know a school has one, you probably won't be in line to interview. But say there was no waitlist of applicants to interview, then they have to dig back into the pile (however organized or ranked or selective that pile might be).
Unfortunately, it can sometimes also be the case that if you've not received a rejection, but not interviewed either, sometimes it's just an oversight and they have left you off the list of people to contact with rejections. But anyway, don't give up hope. I know people who were waitlisted and accepted without interviewing during the regular process. You never know...

Hmm, perhaps this is why I have yet to receive rejections from programs that have already interviewed and I know others who have already received rejections from them . . . they've got me on some backup list. Which actually sucks even more. This whole process is making me even more impatient than usual. 😎

Duckygirl is right, that can definitely happen, so don't give up hope.

I saw a similar situation with the internship placements this year. A friend of mine works at a site (quite competitive), and they didn't interview that many people because they tend to get their top people, and this year they ended up with 1 spot open that they need to fill. Someone is going to get a very nice phone call (if they haven't already)

I have a question... How long should I expect to wait before hearing back from a school after an interview? I know it varies, but it's been over a week now with no word. It seems too soon to call and ask - I don't want to seem irritating and desperate. 🙄

I'm thinking I'm probably a second/third choice and they already extended an offer to the first choice person, unless they really haven't decided yet. Do schools contact you to tell you if you're the alternate choice or just leave you hanging until the first choice either accepts or declines the offer? 😕

I think it depends on the school. At one of my interviews, I was told it would be about 2 weeks. If it's been a week and you weren't given a time frame, maybe you could call/email and ask when decisions would be made? Don't give up hope yet!

Going through this process really shows people the difference between good customer service and bad customer service. Spending time applying to a school, and spending money to apply, one would think the school would show the applicant the respect of letting them know whats going on. Yet so few schools actually give their applicant much information about what is going on. I can understand that alot of people apply, and there are issues with fairness, but this is insane.

Maybe I will use my education to consult with school admissions departments to be more applicant friendly. I think it gives a better impression of the school when they are nice to their applicants.

That is an interesting idea. I actually think that a school could recruit better students by taking the time to really do a good job with admissions and giving prompt responses. I got that from my soon to be school of choice and I really appreciated it. In addition, if it had been a tie, I think that is something I would have considered.

Rejected from George Washington's Psy. D program. It is stated on the application status website.

I completely understand how you feel. I have not heard from programs that I know have at least sent out invitiations for interviews. I received an email from SUNY-Albany, in response to one I sent some time ago about my application status, and they said they have not made a decision about my application as of today.

By the way, has anyone heard anything from Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, or University of Memphis. I guess I'm just having a hard time waiting for answers. Thanks.

Someone here received an acceptance from Vanderbilt within the past few weeks.

University of Cincinatti School of Medicine admissions committee director emailed me encouraging me to check my status online. Heart racing and to the website clicking on the status page---> REJECTION... Here I come Caribbean...

M'thinks you may be on the wrong thread. 😀

I received a rejection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill today. I actually kind of found it humorous, mainly because I wouldn't have accepted an offer anyways. However, it is humorous because it looks like this is a photocopy of my rejection letter. Literally, not a print out, a copy. Who kept the original? I don't know, lol. Dang I am a harsh critic of rejection letters!

How dare they! For the amount of money spent on applying, you'd think they could give you a decent original letter in return.

I received my official letter of rejection from Buffallo yesterday via mail. I knew it was coming, but as usual- ouch!

lol, I am not upset about that, I just want to know who wanted to keep the original of my rejection letter. Perhaps they think I am going to be something big.

Could be that the official letter stayed in your file at the graduate office.

I got my official post-interview rejection from UMaine. Looks like I will definitely be re-applying next year! Overall, I did enjoy this board and the support through the past several weeks. Good luck to everybody!

FINALLY got my official rejection from Florida! At least I know they didn't lose my application or something, haha 🙂

I know the feeling - I finally got mine today, 4 days after yours!

I got my first rejections today...UC Berkeley, which I kind of figured I was getting, and UT - Austin, which I was holding out hope for, since I thought I matched well with the professor. Sigh. Still another 11 schools to hear from, with hopefully one or more acceptance letters.

On the waitlist - notified by e-mail this evening.

How did you receive your UT-Austin rejection? I know several who have been rejected over the past weeks--but I have yet to hear from them. This seems to be standard with my rejections for some bizarre reason. I tend to get them 2-3 weeks after everyone else (or at least others I know).

I haven't heard from them one way or another either...

Is it possible to get on this list if you never got asked to interview somewhere (to mentorship model Ph.D. programs)? I'm guessing not, but, I too, have not heard ANYTHING for any of the programs on the rejection list. I wonder what that means. Anyone know?

It's possible, Jenny. I was on the waiting list in Notre Dame with no interview last year. But I suppose not every school is the same.

wait lists are NOT rejections! keep that in mind!

(i'm trying to!)

If I know (from this board) that some offers have gone out for schools at which I interviewed, and I haven't been called, any ideas on the etiquette of contacting the POI? Any suggested text for the e-mail? (How about suggestions for maintaining optimism?)

No, they're not . . . but if there were 20-40 other people who interviewed, the vast majority (if not all) of them are also on the same wait list. You're still competing with everyone else then to be accepted off of it. And, in my personal experience, it might as well be a rejection . . . I'm holding out minimal hope that I'll get accepted from one of mine. I'm being realistic, not pessimistic. 😀 But, that's just me.

I recently wrote a POI a letter saying that I was still very interested in the program and if he could let me know what my status was. (I can PM you the exact text if you would like.) I know it is hard to maintain optimism when you are not the first choice. I went through this process two years ago and was waitlisted at almost everyschool I interviewed at. And never received an offer from the waitlist. But this time around I did get a pleasant phone in response to the email I wrote saying that I was the first alternate and that I should know in a week or so if I get the offer. So don't lose hope. I had figured since I hadn't heard for a month, that I wasn't being considered anymore. But other people are still interviewing so if the first offer is not finished interviewing they will hold the acceptance for a while until they have had a chance to make a decision. I almost wish we could do a match system like internship, then we wouldn't have to go through all of this waiting to see if someone accepts or declines an offer.

^^^ Could you please also PM me the text for this e-mail you sent out about your status. I am going crazy here and have been waiting in limbo for what seems like forever!!!

Just received email rejection from Auburn University. I was so sure that I would at least be interviewed there! 🙁 Ah, well, not a big surprise since I knew interviews had already gone out.

Yeah, me too. I thought I had a decent shot at that one.

Well, that makes 4 rejections and a wait list for me. God, some good news would be nice around now.🙁

For anyone still waiting on U of Arizona, if you go to the psych department website there's a link to sign in and check your application status.

I'm rejected, which I sort of already figured... but since this was my #1 school I'm kinda sad about it.
