That's what I found from last year's thread. Seems to be pretty thorough so I can't imagine it changed much.

Can anyone tell me if these are accurate for this years secondaries?

I don't have access to my secondary anymore but I think those look right.

I have a cumulative GPA of about 3.81 and a MCAT of 27, but I'm kind of a random application considering I'm from a school in West Virginia. I think my stats are ok, but do you think they would consider a student from so far away or would they not care about that? Basically I'm just interested in getting out west and really loved the look of this school, I'd like some opinions on my chances. Thanks!

PS
Any suggestions on how to improve my application toward this school?

I honestly don't know what they're looking for at RVU. Some people have been rejected with pretty good stats/EC's. Someone mentioned before that actual patient contact (as an EMT/CNA etc) was important. I can't say for certain that it is, however.

There are people in my class from Boston, WV, etc. Your stats look pretty competitive. Go for it!!

To iheartnachos, thanks for the advice anyways! To Colodo student; thanks! I'm going to go for it. I've read they have accepted low GPA/MCAT and rejected high GPA/MCAT,so I'm a little concerned. I've got about 100 hours in nursing homes/hospitals and 100 hours shadowing an MD, then quite a few other groups such as chemistry fraternity and so on. Any other advice on what to get involved in that would help?

Primary: 10/25 Secondary: 11/6 Interview Invite: Today (11/30). I'm pretty excited. I want to settle down in Colorado. They still had open interviews this week, but 1. I'm from Ohio and 2. I want to try to work some "in the area" magic with CU.

You sure you want to fork out 83k/yr just for tuition 107k/yr total?? Also, do you have super awesome stats? "The grade point average for the 160 entering medical students in the fall of 2011 was a 3.74 and the MCAT median a 32Q"

Hello everyone,
I have an interview here next week and would really love some insight on the day! Closed or open file? How many interviewers at a time? How many interviews? And help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Website says "The actual interview will be approximately 40 minutes long. You will interview with a two member panel (usually a physician and Ph.D.). The interviewers will have access to your supplemental application, personal statement and letters of recommendation. They do NOT have access to grades or MCAT scores."

It was 63k last year for NR students, you aren't going to get 32k as a NR student... and they are very heavy on in-state... Best of luck.... Also, curious where you're finding that cost being "only if you withdraw"...

I've seen that before somewhere also, but I don't have a link. I don't get if that means you get an extra 30k in loans each year or just get them if you withdraw from the school.

Hi all:

After a bit of back-and-forth, I decided to cancel my interview here for the afternoon session Friday, 12/07. This opening should be available to anyone looking to reschedule their interview for an earlier date. I also found that it was fairly easy to get in contact with people on the list for the "unofficial" hosting program (everyone replied within 1-4 hours of my email request), but after the first student had to cancel on me due to a family emergency, I received a cascade of "I'd really like to help you, but..." It seems like a lot of students (at four of the hosts that I talked to about a place to stay) are undergoing testing around the 7th and, as a result, are a little reluctant to host.

That said, everyone seemed very nice and I'm sure that if I had tried harder, this would have been a great way to spend the eve before an interview. After finding out that I got into another school that I am highly jazzed by, I was "on the fence" about attending this interview, despite its awesome location. My difficulty in finding a place to stay afforded me a little more time to think through how much I would really want to go to Rocky Vista over this other school and, finally, I arrived at the decision to respectfully decline the interview offer. I hope that my withdrawal opens up a spot to an awesome SDNer hoping for good news from this school!

Best of luck!

Interviewing here on 12/5! really quick turn around on my app ~2 weeks!

Easily the most laid back interview you'll ever have. Be personable, ask some good questions and have a good time.

My offer still stood, and I am on their list of places to stay.... So I hope a place to stay wasn't your deciding factor...

A place to stay was definitely not the only factor, and I still greatly appreciate your offer! Guess if I would have worked my way farther down the list, I would have eventually found you. 🙂

I've already interviewed at 5 places (3 of which were rather pricey to get to) and have one more interview coming up that coincides with holiday travel plans--I decided to cancel my WesternU and Rocky Vista interview adventure because I feel that, for me, one of my current acceptances is better suited for my needs/aspirations in terms of dual degree opportunities, medical Spanish, curriculum, and location. It was difficult for me to justify the additional time and money to fly to California and immediately thereafter Colorado, especially since I am already starstruck with another school I am putting down a deposit for.

Don't get me wrong--this was still a hard interview to cancel as it seems like a stellar school with a very friendly student population. Had I scheduled this interview for earlier in the cycle, my pocketbook would have been a little more ripe with "real cash money," as it were, and I would have hopped on that plane like a pro. For me, now at this juncture in the application cycle, a trip like this seems a little extraneous.

Thank you again for your generous offer!

Best,

Ok, but as an OOS student, you would likely still be paying the ~58k amount or more, since they don't really say what the OOS/NR tuition rate is...

Yikes. Not that I based my acceptance decision solely on finances (if I did, I would have definitely chosen to attend LECOM-E which, all things considered, I did not because I knew I would not get the most out of my experience there), but this is quite a steep tuition considering I am already happy with another school. Thank you for opening my eyes to this!

I think your confusing University of Colorado tuition here, which is ENORMOUS, for out of state. Thats not the RVU tuition.

It's a private school so there is not OOS versus IS tuition. There was an IS scholarship in the past if I remember correctly.

See previous posts about UC Denver, but you are right about enormous tuition bills.

Yeah, it was supposed to quote the other guy about CU, NOT RVU... RVU is ~43k... for everyone...

Seriously, how on earth do students afford to live in this area? It looks like a normal 2 bedroom is average 1,200 dollars 🙁 wow I will have to ask financial aid how they acquire their estimate for housing costs.

You could look at surrounding areas. That is your best bet.

Most people get roommates... There are private rentals that are less, or get a roommate or two... You're allowed ~16k/yr for room/board... PM me if you have more questions...

I think it depends on when you were accepted, but I am thinking the final dues ($1000) is due by 01MAY2013 unless you are accepted after this date

anyone interviewing on thursday? haven't found much on how the interviews are.... any advice from past interviewees?

Its a panel with two interviewers. Just relax and be yourself. It is very laid back and they do not grill you, at least they didn't in mine and those I talked to about it.

That's not entirely true... sometimes they grill you, it depends on your panel...

So when the prospective students tab is gone, that's a rejection. Right?

so I got an email yesterday saying they would be re-evaluating my application....does that mean I'm basically on a waiting list to interview or something??? this is one of my top choices, but I almost feel betrayed if they took the time to tell me I'm 'not good enough for now'....any ideas?

When did you submit your application? If I were to guess, it is more about the timing than anything. We are at a holiday break and semester change. If you are a student, they probably are just waiting for the semester to be completed so you can send the updated transcripts.

I finished my secondary about a month ago. Well I think my gpa might have dropped a little this term=/ but hopefully not too bad.... We're just suppose to update our AACOMAS when we get grades right?

RVUCOM is a great institution, but I'm withdrawing my acceptance. I hope it goes to one of you!

how grilled?

Depends on your panel. I was asked "your letters of recommendation far exceed your GPA, can you explain why your professors would write such high recommendations when your overall GPA is only ~3.2"? I responded that they are current letters, and my PB gpa is a ~3.9... I had other people tell me that it was like "good cop - bad cop".... I think generally they're nice, but they can ask anything...

It is odd that would come up. I was told that the interviewers did not have access to grades at all. Did you mention the 3.2 in your personal statement?

For those that interviewed the first week of December, was this the predicted day we will know if we got in?

Yes, today is the day they said the dean would be in to approve the adcom decisions. *nervously waiting* I interviewed last Tuesday. I'm in Colorado, DO only applicant, and Rocky Vista is my top choice. Interview experience was very nice. All the other interviewees were awesome as well and I hope we all get in!
Now I'm going to work, and to make myself extremely busy for the rest of today so I don't check my phone 1000 times.

My guess is that it will come later in the day. All my calls have been after hours 😳 Try to keep busy so you don't drive yourself crazy! I have been there

been dreaming about that phone call all night!...but looks like its more waiting

Do you happen to know what happens if you get rejected? I believe I read that you just are not allowed on the RVU portal anymore..no letter?
