I think Moniker has done a fine job of answering the question. I would also add that I actually liked having to go different hospitals for my rotations. It made applications to the various prelim and advanced porgrams in the city easier (since Chicago was the only city I could train in). Many of them knew I had rotated with them in some fashion or were very familiar with the letter writers from their hospitals. And ultimately, I felt I was a stronger medical student for my rotation experiences, which was objectively reflected in my much improved step 2 score.

eikenhein,
you are accepted at Wayne. are you waitlisted at RFU or just a post-interview hold?
I interviewed at Rosalind Franklin a few days ago and fell in love with the place. I think I did well on the interviews, but was told on interview day that the class is currently full. The other interviewees told me there is very significant waitlist movement at the school after May 15 and I wanted more information on that. If I am offered an acceptance to Rosalind Franklin, and hopefully not very late, I think I'm set on matriculating there.

That's awesome eikenhein, I'm sure you'll get in. I only wish that I could too.

So I called and got a hold of RFU, I think it was last week. Anyway, they said the next adcom would be at the end of April, I dont know how accurate this is, especially with the class being full as of now, but good luck to anyone waiting like me.

"does the school really suck!?!?"

what the hell is wrong with you? why would you ask that. either you know nothing about the school or youre trying to start an argument.

Cook county hospitals getting out of RFUs list for rotations? we have new and growing affiliations with the advocate system (good hospitals). if anything, i'd say we're upgrading.

if you really want answers to these questions (which are asked every freaking day it seems here and are always met with the same 🙄 ) do a search or go read the Allopathic class thread.

Who claims its tough? I think in general everyone enjoys the fact that we spend the first 2 years up here studying hard and then head downtown to rotate at a variety of different hospitals in chicago instead of being locked into a "home hospital". early clinical experiences abound. there is a clinical exposure program that can be taken as an elective, we take introduction to clinical medicine which uses standardized patients first year and on-site (in area hospitals) preceptorships second year working with patients. we also have student-run clinics and lots of EC clinical opportunities. if youre going to ask a question, please do so in a respectful way.

Wow. Ok. I'll tell you, respectfully, why I was having doubts about the school. On the day of my interview, everything was great...well, except for one of the student guides. He was wearing a shirt (holes and all) that went, "Does by Bass look big", some pants that were torn at the seems and looked like he literally fell out of bed. And here's the best answer he could give for why he chose CMS: "Aaahhh, weellll, it's the only school I got into, you knowww..I guess beggars can't be choosers, you know...I guess it's okay here." Now what kind of an answer is that? And for christ's sake, he could have atleast been wearing something decent. Even the House look would have been sharper than the way he looked that day. I'm not generalizing him to the entire student body. Not at all. Sorry for thinking that the student guides would be chosen based on how well they represent the school.

Sorry if I came across as rude. Just that this is a huge decision and when you hear as much conflicting opinions about a school and you have a student guide give you an answer like that, you just want to be extra sure.

Anyways, moniker, thanks for answering the Cook/Advocate question. And Jumpu, thanks for the reply. It makes sense about having more variety through rotations. Cheers!

If they've waited this long to make a decision on my app, why would it be any different until May 15th?

When I interviewed, I was told that the next committee meeting will be held in May.

fair enough. if its any consolation, there are plenty of people who turn down other schools to come here, and your tour guide does not reflect the student body (which you acknowledged) in his conduct. but you get all kinds, you know? it's good to have a wide spectrum of personalities at a school (especially with a class size of 180). youll find your niche and people like you to practice the physical exam with, or do MCB reviews with, or go through old physio exams with, or practice your history taking skills, or hop the train downtown for post-exams debauchery with. and downtown (wrigley field, downtown proper, etc.) really is easily accessible by the METRA train & the EL.

if you want to be happy here you really will be.

I figured the adcom wont meet till post-May15 but whatever. I hope the stats about 485 acceptance is really true, can anyone confirm this based on something besides the US news?

Is it just me...or has there been a lot of threads that are RFU vs. XYZ medical school.

Do a search. I've been fighting the good fight for 5 years. :beat: But I'm glad to see that now that I'm graduating, the torch has already been passed. Rest assured CMSers, that the education you recieve is a great one and you will also get from it what you put in. Our clinical experiences are just as great. They will continue to improve with the strengthening of the Advocate bond. Be confident in yourselves and what you've been taught. CMS really is a great place. It's just a matter of time before "others" begin to see the light.

Good luck to all of you hoping for an acceptance. I'm sitting here on the last official day of medical school for me, counting down the hours until I can sign out and begin 2 months of vacation.

Has anyone received an acceptance recently or are we all looking forward to the end of May for ours.

hey guys, I recieved confirmation that CMS got my withdrawal today so there is now officially at least 1 vacancy.

I called them yesterday, and they said early May.

Does anyone think writing a LOI this late would help?

Hey, could you guys let me know what I should put in a letter of intent? Should I recapp my personal statement, etc. Basically, what do I say? I want a good shot at this school, so if you guys feel that that might help, then I'm gonna write one and send it express mail.

Lemme know, please!! Thanks!

Basically, tell them why you like the school so much and that you will definitely attend if accepted. Do not recap your personal statement. It should be no longer than a page.

i would say no longer than a couple paragraphs...

i would say no longer than a couple paragraphs...

Should I address the ADCOM....Like, dear Admissions committee. or Rosalind franklin, or just to whom it may concern?

Should I mention that the school is my last chance or should i just state some things that I like about the school?

Thanks guys. I'll write it tonight when i get home. I WILL PREVAIL!

Hey guys, I wrote it. Could anyone give me an opinion on it? I could email it to you if so.....

Peace

I sent a letter earlier this month. I was thinking about sending another one before they meet again. Is this a good idea?

I think one should be enough, unless you forgot to add something or something has changed since the last letter.

What address did y'all send them?

From what I hear, the next meeting will be in early May and I hope they have one in late/mid May due to withdrawals...

You should probably send an email to someone on the adcom.

If youve done anything new or exciting you should probably let them know about it just so they know...ya know

I need an opinion. If I were to just get into the BMS program, should I retake the MCAT (B: 10 P: 10 V: 10 W:R.......I know, verbal is killing me) or do you think doing a year in BMS is going to be enough to get into Rosalind med school? Thanks.

A 10 is solid in verbal man. I think the BMS plus some other clinical work is all you will need.

I have an 8 in Verbal, I have been back and forth about retaking the MCAT. I am worried that I will go down...🙁

Man oh man, c'mon RFU accept your dedicated SDNers, we heart you so much

It's nice to know I'm not the only one. Nice job on biology.

Lets see...

Heston: 10 V
Jcc: 13 B
DVN: 11 PS

34 on the MCAT---we should let RFU know that we are an excellent combo package!

been following this thread for a long time - you guys are deserve to get in with your dedication. I'm a big fan. I'm waiting to hear back from good ol' RFU too... and my MCAT total is a 34... so looks like they're not just worried about numbers, you all are going to get in before I will! :luck:

You guys honestly don't know how much I will cry if I get in.

Also, did anyone get an email about their BMS application. They said they're going to start sending out acceptances come May....

And let's just get the record straight before anymore mistakes are made. I got a 7 in verbal. I would have LOVED to have gotten a 10.

Anywho, com'on Rosalind Franklin!

I will not do the MCAT competition with you guys...my numbers would scare you.

DVN,

I know you have re-applied 4 times. i was wondering if you have been interviewed at RFU before or is this year the first time?

Does anyone feel like their life is entirely up in the air right now and it's almost impossible to make any plans?

I do feel that way.

in case you guys don't check the acceptance withdrawal thread: someone withdrew from RFU. On that list, two people have added their name.
