I put "to whom it may concern"

Who should I address a letter of interest/intent too?

I put Dr. Ross, the Dean. I talked with him when I was there for an interview, so I figured it'd be a good one to send it to.

Jccripe, do way have to put down a deposit if we get a acceptance for the BMS, just like for medical school?

not sure about the deposite, but my guess would be yes.

Did they reply to your letter?

Yeah, they sent me a letter sending they had updated my file. I also went through Nancy Garn, the CFO of the school, because she told me I could email her to ask questions, etc. She sent my attachment to the Dean for me right away. Yeah, so, hopefully SOMEONE has read it...

They've got some nice outdoor bball courts. thatll rock til it gets cold out. the weight room wasn't amazing, but it has enough to get the job done.

im hoping my random roommate in the dorms is cool, but you never know..

the social part is a big negative for studying at home. i had a friend in college who was home schooled by her parents, she barely had friends or someone to hang out with and even now she has trouble interacting with her peers.

now before everyone starts attacking, let me say that not all home schoolers have this problem, the one I know does.

This is the last day of April, which means we are getting closer to May 15th and b/4 you know it, we'll start hearing good news.

If i don't get in anywhere, I think I may quit my job and become a full time troll on SDN.

dont listen to her. im supporting a couple junior trolls n wifey troll off of this salary and benefit package.

I troll because I want to hurt people, not because of the money...or at least that is what I will tell the interviewer.

It is finally May. Hopefully some of us get some good news this month.

Hey I have a random roommate too in the dorms (just got the letter today)
I hope she's cool... and not a slob.

I love your screen name, bacteriophage. I could have chosen "Mast Cell" or our neighborhood friendly "Thrombin." However, my current is the name of the house I lived in senior year. It has since been demolished. So, in it's memory, I post in its honor with pride.

If the next meeting was suppose to be early May, its likely that they may meet this Friday.

I'm all for hearing back this friday!!

Quick Question : Are all of you on the waiting list?? When did you guys hear back after your interview? I havent heard back in a while so I was wondering?

HAHA thanks Heston. My research project is on bacteriophage N15, so I chose that as a name. 😀

Dude, we have no idea where we stand. We are those that haven't heard back either and keep getting the same answer from the school, "No decision has been made on your application yet. It will be put up for the next time the admissions committee meets." Month after month, adcom after adcom, we still eagerly wait for good news. For some of us, this school is our last chance to get into medical school. Other's it's just another playing card.

Personally, I had my interview Feb. 1st and I'm still waiting. Our guess at his point is that nothing too much will happen until after May 15th.

Guys, I talked to my boss today and found out that they don't have the funding for me after May. So, I'll be completely unemployed after this month. It feels like life couldn't get any worse, which I'm sure it could, but at the moment it feels that way. Obviously I need to get a job soon, but I also need to focus on retaking the MCAT.

Come on Rosalind Franklin! I desperately need to hear back from you. I need some solidarity in my life - some closure. Please please make a decision soon!

I am in a similar situation. come July, I am out of the job.

if you get a terrible roommate and i dont, you can come hang out with us.

As the community manager for building 101, I can happily say that there are very few poor roommates out there. Everyone there is in a medical profession and is serious about their work. Last year there was only one roommate scenario that didn't work out and we had to switch them to different rooms. You guys should be fine. Hopefully you get building 10😀

Wow. Ok. I'll tell you, respectfully, why I was having doubts about the school. On the day of my interview, everything was great...well, except for one of the student guides. He was wearing a shirt (holes and all) that went, "Does by Bass look big", some pants that were torn at the seems and looked like he literally fell out of bed. And here's the best answer he could give for why he chose CMS: "Aaahhh, weellll, it's the only school I got into, you knowww..I guess beggars can't be choosers, you know...I guess it's okay here." Now what kind of an answer is that? And for christ's sake, he could have atleast been wearing something decent. Even the House look would have been sharper than the way he looked that day. I'm not generalizing him to the entire student body. Not at all. Sorry for thinking that the student guides would be chosen based on how well they represent the school.

Sorry if I came across as rude. Just that this is a huge decision and when you hear as much conflicting opinions about a school and you have a student guide give you an answer like that, you just want to be extra sure.

Anyways, moniker, thanks for answering the Cook/Advocate question. And Jumpu, thanks for the reply. It makes sense about having more variety through rotations. Cheers!

I know the student you are speaking of and he typifies everything I love about this school. The guy is one of the most friendly, relaxed, approachable people you will ever meet. He isn't overly-serious about his work load or the stress levels, and though he works hard, he never lets it affect his attitude. He is the antithesis of the gunner mentality that I have found has swept over many other medical schools. And as for the "why did you choose it?" answer. He was honest and straight forward. He didn't have a choice. Would you rather have had him lie to you or give you a roundabout answer. I don't quite agree with his choice of attire, but that is more a matter of the admissions office requirement of the student guides, then the guides themselves. Remember the student guides are doing this for free, and at the cost of their time which is very precious. Many of them, between classes or long hours of studying, during which, most of us are wearing our cargo shorts and old tees.

Got a letter from Temple University. Wasn't surprised at the outcome, but what I was surprised at was the number of people that supposedly applied....near 10,000 for 180 spots. Same thing with Loyola. What the hell? Even UIC is telling me that it's gonna be a while because they just have sooooo many applications to go through. Why are there so many people applying? Damn tv shows like House, ER, etc. is what I blame it all on.

🙁 Sorry Heston. Hopefully bright things are in your future.

So everyone...today I was sitting in my room revising my personal statement just in case I have to reapply...then the most odd and depressing realization came upon me...I may never become a doctor...

Is anyone else going through the same thought process? It just feels like that for some people there is an unconquerable wall...🙁

Chill guys and stay optimisitc...know that if it does not happen this yr, you can do the Rosalind BMS program, and for you guys that have gotten interviews for CMS this year, your stats are def. good enough for medical school and your chances of getting in through the BMS program are very good as long as you don't bomb your classes...B's or better are what they are looking for. I was in the program and withdrew in march once I got into other medical schools. In my batch of interviewees for those in the BMS program, 5 of us were offered admission to CMS by December. So keep your head up, and know that this is a good way to go if you want to be at CMS. So far, a little above 30 BMS'ers have been accepted to CMS, and I am sure more will get in, around 55-60 total are in the program now. Good luck to you all:luck:

Does it look a little desperate for me to send a LOI? I interviewed in April so I haven't been reviewed yet. I think I'm just getting anxious.

Is UIC done interviewing? I haven't heard anything from them. Assuming it's a rejection?

Yeah, I'm just going to go ahead and assume rejection.

Guys, there's always plenty of turnover at CMS as we near the May 15th deadline. So for those of you waiting for an acceptance, there is still a very very good chance that you will get in. :luck:

Yeah you guys are awesome, just keep your breath held till May 15!!!!!!!

I tried calling earlier this week but, you guessed it, they dont pick up, it is just that damn message "for adcom push 4 blah blah blah"😡
