Wow. Ok. I'll tell you, respectfully, why I was having doubts about the school. On the day of my interview, everything was great...well, except for one of the student guides. He was wearing a shirt (holes and all) that went, "Does by Bass look big", some pants that were torn at the seems and looked like he literally fell out of bed. And here's the best answer he could give for why he chose CMS: "Aaahhh, weellll, it's the only school I got into, you knowww..I guess beggars can't be choosers, you know...I guess it's okay here." Now what kind of an answer is that? And for christ's sake, he could have atleast been wearing something decent. Even the House look would have been sharper than the way he looked that day. I'm not generalizing him to the entire student body. Not at all. Sorry for thinking that the student guides would be chosen based on how well they represent the school.

Sorry if I came across as rude. Just that this is a huge decision and when you hear as much conflicting opinions about a school and you have a student guide give you an answer like that, you just want to be extra sure.

Hey, I know that student guide you mentioned! He happens to love fishing and has a good natured sense of humor, hence the light hearted Bass shirt you bring up. I can't help but feel that your disparaging comments are not only obtuse, but hyperbolic. I've seen him wear that shirt recently and it doesn't have any tears or holes - leading me to assume you're counting the standard arm, neck, and torso openings against him. And unless you think all perfectly normal cargo pants are torn at the seams, it seems you have a memory that colors toward the negative. Remember, our guides are entirely volunteer, are forever preparing for midterms or finals, and are making themselves available for you out of their own sense of courtesy. Most admission candidates are sensible enough to return that courtesy. I'm sure that other interviewees appreciate student guides who are just being themselves, without veneers of dress or other modes of affectation. If you want to let a single (mis)judgment, one based significantly on appearance, cast a disproportionate cloud over your choice of opportunities, that is up to you. (It's human nature to have negative experiences stand out in memory - who wants to touch a hot stove twice? - just be careful about letting negativity drag down perspective & behavior.) So, for everyone else, please be reassured that you can have a great experience at rfu.
Last year around this time, I was interviewing like most of you. And while rfu wasn't my first choice (due to proximity to family and cost), it wasn't my bottom preference either. After one year, I can say that I've enjoyed the challenges here and that when the time comes, I fully expect to match in a specialty and location of the country that I'll be happy with. Just my two cents.
And to all those waiting to hear: It can be gut-wrenching, I know. I interviewed in April and only heard in late July! So all things are possible.
Best of luck! You'll all be great doctors before you know it.

I wouldn't have cared so much about what he wore, if he had a better answer for why he chose RFU...

You're right...clothes don't make someone. But you must atleast agree that what comes out of their mouth does.

PS: Didn't mean what I said about interview day with any degree of animosity towards my student guides. It was just my experience and it stood out in my head. Everything went really well that day and I had the best time interviewing. Peace.

been MIA for a while but its because i started workin 40 hr/week and its taking a toll.

anyways, yay! for the withdraw list. 😀

your withdrawl = my acceptance:laugh:

does rfu have a second look weekend?

I really hope I get in soon so that I can quit my sh*tty job without worrying about getting a bad LOR.

I know how you feel man. I am basically just trying to not think about it. Life sucks right now.

I already had to quit my clinical job. It wasn't paying well and I had to drive from Elgin to Rockford. 👎 So.....anyone have any good ideas for jobs??

Heston, what type of job you looking for? An I am assuming Elgin Aurora ish area?

Elgin....Aurora is like what, 30-40 minutes away? Yeah, I'm looking for something that has actually health insurance. I'm sunk in the next two months because I my insurance quits with my parents'. That's a problem, especially with diabetes. So...the short of it, I wouldn't mind a job that has benefits and pays better than $8.50, which was what I was getting my last job (no respect for the nursing staff).

Damn, you are pretty far from Rush Copley.

In all honestly, if you need a job just for the summer, I would look into local retail that offers insurance. Getting HC jobs right now is getting rough in our area.

Yeah. I dunno, though. What if I don't get in this year? Shouldn't I look for something that I would be comfortable for a year? What would you do?

I am confident that you will atleast be in the BMS program. But, if you are looking for a year, I would suggest going back to a hospital or clinic. Are you a CNA or EMT?

Neither CNA or EMT. CNA is a joke, though. I'd rather do EMT. That takes like 3 months though for training.

I would go back to a clinic job, but I need "certification" for most places. The place I worked at didn't require it - on the job training. Ridiculously easy. Did most of it with my eyes closed.

So you think I'll get the BMS? If that's the case, I could use the school's offered insurance.

Yeah man, you should be a shoein for the bms program.

I will be doing my EMT-B this summer just in case. The school insurance at CMS is pretty high, but you could use the student loan money for blue cross or something

For some reason Safari isn't letting me quote...

Sigh. Diabetes complicates my life so much. Always did living overseas. Had to have a stupid refrigerator at all times.

I wouldn't mind doing the EMT training. Where do you look into something like that? Community college? See, though, that's another expense I'd have to give up. Might as well just get a job that pays at this point - that is, if I can find one.

Yeah, the diabetes will definitely complicate some things, but I am sure you will find something.

Yeah, safari acts up sometimes on SDN.

I am doing EMT at a community college, its going to be around 1K to do it. If expenses are tight, you could take out a student loan at a cc providing u have 2006-07 fafsa on file.

wow, your CC is expensive. My EMT cost me around $350 in Cali.

It was a fun and quick winter course.

I guess that's the way we roll in IL.

Seriously. I thought it was going to be around 3-5 hundred max. Turns out that the FEE for the class is 150 and registration and such is about 850. Thene with books on top of that, its around 1200-1300 hundreds. CC punks!

Oh well, I need something besides teaching this summer.

All has been quiet with RFU lately. I wonder if they are meeting today?

What makes you think they are meeting today?

They usually meet on Fridays and it is the last week of April. I remember a few people mentioning that the last week of April was another meeting. I'm not sure if it is true or not, but lets hope so:luck:

Good luck to everyone-I'm really hoping that you guys get accepted.

:luck: :luck: :luck:

Long time no talk Morriske =) How is everything with you?

Everything is fine. My husband graduates from law school next weekend 🙂 We'll be moving to Chicago in July (officially) but we're closing on our condo in a few weeks.

Hope you get good news soon.

Just called, got the usual "next meeting" schpiel - sometime in May.

At my interview in April, they didn't give an exact date, but made it sound like it would be after May 15.

May sounds about right. Why would the adcoms meet to assign a handful of acceptances for open spots now when they can wait a month and send a massive amount. I hope wii all get then!

school insurance plans are the same price as Blue cross blue shield

i hate this process. i think im gonna go to pita inn to fill my void of an acceptance with food. 🙁

Take heart, guys, you have Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3 to cheer you up in the next month....atleast they will for me! 🙂

i hate this process. i think im gonna go to pita inn to fill my void of an acceptance with food. 🙁

every time i think about having no acceptance, i find myself going to the kitchen or the junk food stash and pigging out!

Everytime I thnk about not having an acceptance, I go straight read this forum and feel better when I realize that other people are just as agonized as myself.

So I guess that the first round of BMS acceptances will go out next week. Does anyone know how to reapply(do we use the same LOR and if we graduate do we see them and mail them ourselfs, or will the school do it for you) I really hope i dont have to reapply and i just start this august. Just getting a little down.

I think they will let you know during orientation on what to do. I am pretty down myself.

I was thinking, after May 15th, how many people will possibly drop out of CMS? The truth about being rejected in slowly starting to sink in 🙁

you all have an excellent shot of getting in after May 15th. so, being an optimist, let's talk about what kind of stuff we wanna do when school starts. anybody play basketball or weight lift? anybody play halo....?

I weight lift religiously, I love it, it is my stress relief. Thats probably why I am not accepted I intimidated the crap out of them

Personally, I think the committee will meet one more time before the 15th for last minute acceptance before we have to start waiting for the post may 15th drama. Maybe I am just being an optimist.

That was my gut feeling as well. Come May 15th, I am certain that I will go into panic mode.

All this stressed has taken away from my running, playing basketball, and a few other recreational activities 😛

Guys, if we all get in, I would LOVE to play any basketball or tennis given free time. Also, is there anyone that wants to put together a band??
