Grats TDD, where did you decide to go?

iwannagomed, I hope you are right about those stats, I am so depressed about all this.

samosas and bigdog, I hope your interviews went well.

I have been away for a while, been really down. I've been applying to SMPs, I had one deferred from last year, but they called me early last week and told me to reapply since they didn't want to honor my deferral. It's been such a roller coaster lately 🙁

i'm so sorry to hear you're depressed. when you say deferral, do you mean SMP or med school acceptance from last year?
anyway, don't give up. we have a bunch people in our class who got in over the summer, and even one who got in after orientation! and there's always the BMS program.
this is a crappy process i know, but hang in there!
best of luck.

I'd agree... for the past who knows how many months, no matter what they've said over the phone it's been the first Friday of the month. So in all likelihood, April 6th it is...not like it matters though since it depends on when they send the decisions and to where.

Thanks.Going to UIC, hoping to get switched to Chicago campus but if not I'll deal. I am pretty optimistic for you guys. I'll still be lurking on this thread checking up on you guys for sure.

too bad we wont be classmates...
but good luck to u at UIC...
at least u'll be saving tons of money (assuming ur in-state)... 🙂
perhaps we'll get to meet during rotations...

If you guys get in this month, what will be the first thing you do. I think I might just start crying HAHAHA.

Ive been waiting four years now, so first thing I would do is finally sleep in peace.

DrV

I'm curious to know if you had ever applied to do schools?
I knew how insane the allopathic competition is so I applied to both.
(its also the only school i got into so far...)

Dr.V if you and I both get into RFU i will buy you a 4yr congratulatory steak dinner. HAHAHAHA

Just a thought, but have you guys tried emailing your student interviewer? I know mine said she was open to questions about the admission process, and is actually able to check up on the application status.

i'll join u at that dinner and a round of beers on me.

I have kept in contact with my student interviewer, I sent her a congrats for match day, and other questions. I try to restrain myself so as not to be annoying. HAHAHA

Hang in there CMS applicants! I can feel your pain... and you all deserve to celebrate at the end of this process. Definitely keep in touch with your student interviewers if they opened that door. Most of us have the time to answer your questions this time of year. It's always a nice touch when you congratulate your interviewer on their match. Nice job jccripe! 👍

I love steak! I'm in. I'll contribute a nice bottle of cabernet to go with the steaks :hardy:

I called RFU last week to check on my status and found out that they had sent me an interview invite in the beginning of March that I supposedly did not respond to. As is probably the case with many of you, I check my email religiously and know for sure that I never received it. Fortunately, I caught this and was still offered an interview invite. The problem is that it is now at the end of April and I am worried that I would really not have a very good shot at an acceptance, but rather a waitlist spot at best. I am really interested in the school and would definetely like to go there, but is this interview worth the time and the money at this point? I would really appreciate any advice from anyone. Thanks ahead of time.

Its always worth a shot. You dont want to ask yourself what if later in life.

Finally registered and here is my first post! I found out I got in a few days ago and I'm pretty excited (its my first acceptance)! Barring any miracles from UIC (I've been in the post-interview review phase for a few months), I'll be joining you all in August!

Anyone know where they want to live yet? I'm looking at the Woodland (?) apts - any thoughts?

The on campus housing is actually pretty nice (I know cuz I lived there for a year myself). Plus, they are reasonably priced. The woodlands have changed their management over the last few years so I don't think it's the best option. There are a bunch of off campus areas as well (Forrest Pointe, etc) that are awesome and places to live as well. But in all honesty, I don't think you can go wrong with the on campus housing.

I got in too! YAY!

In terms of housing I'm leaning towards the Woodlands. The management changed again a few months ago and it sounds like it's a little more organized now. I also here that the navy family housing across the street from campus is going to open up for non-navy people, so if your looking to get a house with three other people that would be a good way to go. I have no idea how to find out more about that though.

when did you receive the acceptance letter?

When is the next RFU adcom meeting.
People were saying April 6, but I noticed that is Good Friday!

Is this sacrilege, or just divine providence?

You guys I just received an interview today, are there still spots in the class open? Either way I am going for the interview but just want to make sure.

Page 6 of this thread has the assumed stats for acceptances/spot available etc.

interesting...

well then i wonder as well if they'll have it on fri or not. my university has no classes this fri (so no teachers either = no adcom meeting) 🙁

When will the next meeting after the 6th likely be?

5th or 13th. move it a week later or a day ahead. nothing in between.

damn it. i want to know already.

I will be sending them a nice big LOI just in time for the meeting.

Any suggestions for a good hotel to stay at, any of them have shuttle service from O'hare?

North Chicago is about a 40 minute drive from O'Hare, so the hotels close to campus don't have a shuttle to the airport. I stayed at the Ramada Inn near campus, and it was sufficient (it's right down the road from the campus, so you can't really get lost either). If you mention that you're interviewing at RFU, they give you a discounted rate on the room (I think it was $70/night). Good luck!

It will be the week of April 9th. G'luck everyone.

If that is true, and they usually meet on Fridays....

FRIDAY THE 13th!!! will be the date of the next adcom meeting. dun dun dun.

we'll just find out how lucky we are

fwiw, i have a bunch of friends living in the woodlands & they seem pretty happy there.

...all i know is that rent is way too expensive for an area like north chicago

the dorms seemed quite appealing to me. they're pretty much new and only like a block away.

hmmm... Good Friday (3-06) or Friday the 13th (3-13).

anyone else superstitious? 😱

Is it possible to be reviewed if you interview right before one of these dates, mine is right before the 13th, was curious.

I am betting that DrCurious, you will have to wait till the next month for another adcom meeting. That is my guess, but all the best.

April 6: Not if you're a Jew!😎
April 13th is my birthday, so this could either be the best or the worst birthday ever.

Blam ethe canadians!

At least the republicans don't get blamed for everything!!

Hey guys, I interviewed February 1st. Without risking being annoying, I have done my best to curb my desire to call them at whim to find out what they're doing. At the end of February they said, "no decision has been made and your application will be re-reviewed in March." March went by and I called a second time. Same answer. Hopefully this is my month. Any of you have any suggestions as to what I can do to persuade them? Letter of intent? Glamour shots? Free lawn treatment?

P.S. I too had the problem of finding out that I had an interview even though I didn't get an email. I think I should get some slack for a bogus slipup like that.....

it may not have been a slip-up. you may have been borderline interviewable and since you called they offered you an open interview spot that someone else cancelled or something. they did get ~9,000 applications this year, many of whom are interview material but probably don't get one. but i dont know the whole story obviously.

that said - good luck to everyone. i think your best shot is to really impress them at your interview and leave them with no other choice than to accept you at the first review of your file. otherwise you may be in waitlist limbo up until school starts. oh, and they really want people who really want to be here (not because they don't have any other option but because they like the school and want to contribute).

I was browsing the website for the school to prepare myself for the interview, but I didnt find too much stuff to talk about. Any tips/info on what you guys found attractive about the school.

Actually, I got a phone call from them saying I had an interview. There WAS a slipup because they had said they sent an email like two weeks prior to this phone call. They were like, soooo....are you gonna take the interview?

Anyway, hopefully they got me email address fixed so they don't screw it up again when they send out the decision.

decisions are sent via snail mail, so no need to worry about that...
unless ur interviewers wanted to contact u personally...
good luck!
