First, lemme just say that NO ONE'S fate is sealed until you get a rejection letter. So if no decision is made today - if today is the actual ADCOM meeting - then you have a chance post May 15th. Second, what is this BMS program that people talk of? Is a it a masters in biomedical science? If so, won't you be wasting your time because you have to retake the common classes anyway when you get INTO medical school? Not to mention it's another loan that you'll have to take out.....

Ok, I looked it up and the deadline for the BMS program is June 1st. No need to take the GRE because they accept the MCAT. I'm not quite sure if you have to repeat the classes upon taking medschool classes. Also, do you need to send in a new transcript and letters of recommendation??

I was thinking, if you DO send this in, won't this be telling the ADCOM that you're giving up, if you will, on the medical school at this point and trying different avenues. Or does it look like you're doing all it takes to get into that school???

So is the meeting today or not, any guesses?

I hope they see the BMS app as me doing everything to go to RFUMS. You can sign a part of the app and they use the stuff you turned in for the MD app. Also, I think that some classes transfer in, or something like that, you actually take classes with the med students, I think, or at least some of the same classes. Plus what else are you gonna do for a year?

Yeah, if I don't get in this round, I most likely will send in my BMS application also. The adcom should realize how much we are willing to drop to go to cms 😉

Sent in my withdrawal from CMS today, only wish I had a few more to go around for you guys.:luck: Good Luck to all of you!

no one is picking up at the admissions office.

thank you....you know anyone else who was accepted at RFU, persuade them to withdraw their acceptance too!

Could someone explain to me why everyone seems to think that today is the "last" adcom meeting? What about May?

Also, could someone tell me what the benefit would be to do the BMS degree? It intrigues me, but I'd like a bit more information...will it help for next years admission, etc.

When I interviewed this week, they said the committee will meet sometime in May.

It will likely take that long to deal with all those files still open from earlier months.

i was under the impression that the adcoms meet once a month [today possibly]. and i would assume that there is a meeting in may since may 15th is when an applicant cannot hold more than one acceptance.

BMS kind of overlaps with M1 so you take some classes with M1s and maybe some diff ones, i.e. your workload is much lighter. and then you can apply to RFU Med School again for the next year with a BMS degree. if you get in, that means your 1st year of medschol you take whatever you didnt during you BMS year. Not 100% sure on this but i think thats how it works or something along those lines.

Hope that helps.

DVN, I don't know where I'm gonna get the money, but I think I'll send in a BMS application soon too.

the bms app is a nifty 10 bucks [if you applied to medschool]. how sweet is that?!😀

Just keep the faith. There is much tread left in this cycle!

😀

so today, i went to my car dealership cuz i had an engine check light on from a couple days ago...

after 1 hr of waiting...

i need a new catalytic converter, gasket, exhaust pipe...

wow...

the cost is about $1,500...

wow...

another 1 hr of waiting...

read through some magazines they had...

april 9 copy of US NEWS...

they had an article about RFU (an advertisement)...

they made it sound real nice...

while crying inside thinking about $1,500 going out of my pocket in an blink of an eye...

i thought about u guys reading the article...

DVN, how do you go about that? Do I just write a check for $10 and assume they know I have applied to the Medical school?

Any other weird quirky things I should know??? I think I'll fill out the app. tonight. Dude, I'm gonna cover my butt in as many ways as possible. I'm GONNA get into medical school, dammit.

You're entire muffler system cost that much?? I think the most expensive part there is the catalytic converter, but still.....I feel like you're getting hosed. 🙁

That does sound a little high. Who did your diagnostic? Someone you know/trust, I hope.

I had some muffler/exhaust trouble last fall and thought I was going to have to get my whole system rebuilt based on an estimate I had done at school. When I was home over break, my dad took it to a Midas shop and they said that sure, I could probably blow the $800 to rebuild it, but really all they needed to do was patch the catalytic converter. No way I was going to spend that much money on a 12-year old car with 140,000 miles on it!

Hope everyone got through the day with minimal anxiety 🙂

Anxiety? I've been at an immediate care clinic ALL day and for some reason, people with problems for a month or so decided to come in TODAY!! What the heck!? It's been REAAAALLLLYYY busy today. And I'm still here.....

at least it's almost the weekend?

at least it's almost the weekend?

True that. It's slowed down atleast....hence I'm on SDN. Guys, live it up this weekend. Call it pre-celebration if you will. We're gettin' into CMS!!!

Woooohooooo!

......I need a drink.

Did they even meet in April? and if so when was the meeting?

i went to the official toyota dealer service center...

i dont think they would rip me off like that since they're not some little private shop down the street...

...would they??? 🙁

i dont know, i dont wanna think about it anymore...

Dealerships I think tend to be more expensive, unfortunately. That's because they exclusively use Toyota parts and not the nonbrand name stuff that you can get a lot cheaper......

iwannagomed

i dont think u got ripped off in that they lied to you.
a) foreign cars are mad expensive.
b) a dealer makes it even more expensive

you just got a real quality job, and paid a quality price. imo.

hey guys

so i emaild v. castro about 3 days back saying i'll be out of the country for ~1 month, and he is yet to email me back. should i just assume he got my email?

also, if i were u, i would just try my absolute hardest NOT to postulate on how the adcom or anything over at rfu works. it seems pretty impossible to figure out. in my mind, i'm not expecting anything until post-may 15.
i'm sure they'll accept the hot-shot omg we loved this applicant over the next few days. i mean they had an adcom meeting for some reason. but they really can't offer very many more acceptances until after may 15 when they know for sure that there will actually be spots open, bc as of now, their class is "full".

i'm curious to know to all those applying to the masters program or planning to re-apply, did you consider d.o. school or apply there?

Only allopathic schools. Started the DO app and then decided if I'm being studying for the next 6-8 years of my life, I might as well be doing what I really want.

i applied to DO school also...i interviewed at one and was waitlisted.

i guess we wait for post-may 15th meething.
we all know that there is atleast one spot open b/c someone posted that they withdrew their acceptance!

i agree...

the class has been full for a while now...

the chances of those already accepted withdrawing anytime soon... not good...

they will most likely withdraw around may 15...

or after they have reviewed financial aid award letters...

if u are waiting for an acceptance right now, itd be best to make urself believe that u will not be hearing anything before may 15...

if u wait for ur mailman impatiently everyday, the next few weeks are gonna be like hell...

i know that itd be hard, but i think its best that u guys try to relax a little...

even tho the class is full right now, according to stats from previous yrs, turnover ratio is incredibly high at RFU...

ive heard that they had already accepted a little over 200 thus far...

but remember that they usually accept around 600 for the 185 spots...

there are going to be many many many more acceptances to go around after may 15...

be strong!!! :luck:

Aaaah, a breath of fresh air amidst all this pessimistic stench! Thanks iwannagomed.

thanks for your optimistic view.
i will not wait impatiently to check my mail until after may 15th.

also...people who haven't heard from RFU....do you have other acceptances or waitlists?

Iwannagomed has a really good point. The next month is going to be pretty long for those that don't have acceptances if we hold our breath hoping that something will come prior to May 15th.

What I have come to realize over the past year after my dismal MCAT score and my antagonizing wait to hear back from schools is that, in the grand scheme of things, this amount of time waiting and gnawing is insignificant compared to the rest of our lives. Sure, it may seem like 20 years as opposed to 1, but during this year I have become more certain of my commitment to medicine. And with that increase of intensity in my dream, I can become more solid as a health professional, as well as a passionate human being.

Waiting is a pain, and yet much to our chagrin, it does foster growth - growth in who we are and how we learn to recognize our weaknesses and strengths. It serves as a painful reminder that we are not perfect and must strive harder towards perfection, but at the same time realize that absolute perfection is unattainable.

Therefore, use this time to grow my friends. Work hard at what you're trying to accomplish and you will undoubtedly succeed in your dreams. If taking another year off is the outcome of this cycle, use it as a blessing in order to strengthen and ready yourself to become a doctor and revitalizer of the medical profession. Millions upon millions of people are in need of medical assistance all around the world: those without adequate financial means in the US or those without even simple access in the Democratic Republic of Congo......examples that are just a drop in the ocean.

So don't become faint of heart and waiver from your dream of becoming a doctor. The need for them is huge! Good luck and God speed!

oops, sorry i got the number of those interviewed and the number of those accepted confused...

according to US NEWS, 589 were interviewed and 485 were accepted for 185 spots a couple yrs ago...

but still... i think its good to be hopeful...

no question.

another thing to consider is that it used to be the case where at the end of the year, the AP students who kept their GPA high enough got the first ~60 "waitlist" spots. now, since the BMS students get accepted (in lower numbers, I think) all along the year there isn't such a small chance of going 70+ deep into the waitlist and thus getting in as a normal applicant waitlister. but this is mostly speculation. good luck to everyone. i'll be interested to see how admissions and the consequent class shake out this year.

JCCRIPE and to all that have turned in the BMS application, did you answer the personal comments as one essay or did you split it up for each prompt????

I interviewed at RFU last week on april 5th, and they said that adcom would meet at end of april. Then to my surprise, I get an acceptance letter yesterday 🙂 . I was really surprised how soon it came. Best of luck to all those still waiting.

I wrote them as two essays, I also did the special essay since my first choice would be the nutrition route.

Do you live by the school, and when was it dated? Trying to figure out when they met.

No, I live in Cali. The letter was date April 10, mailed on April 11.

Hello everyone. I am very interested in attending Rosalind Franklin and will be applying next year. For all who recieved interviews would you pleast post your GPA and MCAT scores? I live in Illinois and would really appreciate this because it would allow me to better assess my own chances.
Thanks.
