Hey guys, I got accepted to Utah Campus 🙂. Interviewed on 24th of Jan. Got call from Dr. DeYound on Friday the 1st of March.
Good luck to you all. I know how it feels to wait.

Congrats to all those who have been accepted...

I read somewhere that there was an assignment on the day of the interview and a group discussion? Can anyone elaborate on that? Also, what were some common interview questions you were asked?

Thank you to all who reply in advance. Excited to interview at the end of the month. =)

My interview date didn't have an assignment and the only group discussion they did was an orientation and Q & A after.

Basically be ready for the question on why you're going into pharmacy, a question on leadership, a question on teamwork and a question to tell them about yourself. Someone posted a link on the first or second page of this thread that has a bank of questions that people were asked from previous interviews through out the years. I think Moonwalker posted it, so check it out!

Acceptance call: 3/04

Interview date: 2/12
GPA: 3.3
Pre-req GPA - 2.9
PCAT - 92 COMP
No Pharm Experience
Nevada Resident (pretty sure they give this a lot of weight)

Interview is very relaxing. For anyone interviewing in March, don't over think the questions. It seems like they don't really care what your answers are, more so HOW you answer and your ability to communicate. My interview was literally 10 minutes.

Good Luck to Everyone

Congrats to all accepted! I am excited to meet those attending Henderson campus soon. Who is planning on doing the dual degree? I think I will.

I'm at the Utah campus, but I was strongly thinking about doing the dual degree. A lot more work, but every little thing helps.

Congrats on your acceptance to Roseman! What campus are your attending and did you get to choose a campus? Thanks! 🙂

I too am at the Utah campus and am leaning towards doing the dual degree.
On my application I only put the Utah campus, so when he called that is the only one Dr. Deyoung mentioned...

I received a call on Tuesday, but I declined my seat. I selected either campus, but they were most interested in the Utah campus for my seat. Good luck to all you hopefuls! I interviewed Jan 24th as well. 🙂

The NV campus is filled?

Who did you interview with?

Does anybody have information about the additional cost for the MBA program? Are those choosing the dual-degree planning on entering management/administration jobs? What are other reasons for choosing it? I had considered the dual-degree as my wife and I do have other, non-pharmacy entrepreneurial ambitions, but an MBA degree isn't necessary for what we want to do. I'm just not sure I'll see a return on that investment, especially if it's $60k+.

😕

I am considering the dual degree because I am interested in owning my own pharmacy. An MBA is not necessary for owning a pharmacy but I feel I would have a better chance of being successful if I have a business education to help guide me... The cost is ~$20,000 TOTAL spread over 3 years for PharmD students. http://www.roseman.edu/node/110

As Sugarhutch stated it's only $20k which is fairly inexpensive for an MBA. I'ts like $700 per credit.

My thought is that having an MBA will help in the job market, getting residency and if you have aspirations of running your own pharmacy or moving into management. It's definitely not a necessity but every little bit helps, plus I love learning and I think it would be good to have a better understanding of the business aspect of the field. I have numerous friends who have an MBA or are in process of getting it and were blown away at hearing that I could knock it out in 3 years along with my PharmD, especially when I had never looked at going the business route in college.

Good Morning Everyone!! I first want to congradulate everone who has gotten accepted thus far. I have my interview on March 21 and heard about a written essay on the interview date? Can anyone elaborate on this subject? Also what were the questions like. After reading through the threads is seems that mostly everyones interview were not stressful and very relaxing. This will be my second interview, but first personal interview. Any information would be greatly appreciated!! Good day all!

There's no essay writing the day of the interview.

Yes

Thanks for that link and info, sugarhutch and WasatchRx. $20k is certainly not cost-prohibitive.

Have you discussed this option with an owner of a pharmacy? I'm curious how pharmacists who are also pharmacy owners feel about the business side of it. I come from a California suburb and see Rite Aids, CVSs, & Walgreens everywhere, so I'm reluctant to go this route. I don't think they franchise and I'm not sure how successful the mom & pop pharmacies are - but they're still there, so they must be profitable. In rural/underserved areas I'd imagine owning a pharmacy would be at least less competitive.

EDIT: I'm not saying you shouldn't follow your dreams - the sky's the limit as an owner. Maybe you could incorporate disease prevention programs and/or ideas the big pharmacies don't bother with because they're not profitable. I just know that, for me, the business and competition side of it would only take away from what I am there for as a pharmacist behind-the-counter.

Yeah I have talked to a couple independant pharmacy owners, even one who's pharmacy failed, and largely they have said that a business education or extensive prior business experience is a extremely helpful in being successful... I'm not set on owning a pharmacy, whether retail or LTC, but it is something that has intrigued me.

Has everyone on here that has been accepted joined the Facebook group yet?

Ah, very cool 👍. Was there any useful feedback given from the one whose pharmacy failed? I may have to also look into this - I was reading on another board that a number of pharmacists choose to own their own pharmacy because they eventually become sick of working under big retail pharmacy in one way or another.

Yes, join the FB group! Maybe we can all meet up for lunch or a baseball game prior to the beginning of the school year.

Hi Everyone,

I am interviewing March 21st in Salt Lake City. Does anyone have any good suggestions on hotels or travel to/from airports to campus? Trying to do my homework to try to be the most efficient cost wise. Any advise would be great! Thank you so much! 🙂 I am really excited!

Yeah, his pharmacy was a compounding pharmacy that only did custom hormone therapy for a clinic. The pharmacy itself was profitable and doing well but the clinic was 'shut down' and the the pharmacy closed because he essentially had 'all his eggs in one basket'... he said if he were to open another pharmacy he would definately try and diversify...

what are the types of questions they asked?? Just want to know what to expect! thanks!

Does anyone know the passing rate for Roseman? Like what percentage do we have to get on exams in order to pass?

You have to get a 90% to pass, but you can pass with a 85% if after you take the exam as a group and score a 95%* or higher.

90%, unless your group project does well then I think it is 85%. One of the current students told us during the tour that usually you will end up needing 85% or greater to pass.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I want to apply for a residency later on then how does that work with a pass/no pass grading system?

You need 90% on each of the main exams to pass. Some of the year long courses you only need 85% to pass.

So do professor give out letter grades?

It is a pass/no pass system

They give you plenty of information on ways to make yourself competitive with schools that have grades. They can also give you a letter that gives your placing within the class. The school is also now offering clinic rotations as part of your summer IPPE.

90% and i heard thats about 6 questions wrong.

The number of questions that can be missed varies from test to test depending on the number of questions on the test. Test can have anywhere from 40-70 questions depending on the number of days material was presented. Usually 10 questions per day. Year long courses test questions vary from 15 to 60+

You can pass each exam with 85% (or less 5%) if your team gets teams points but that is not guaranteed. There have been several times that teams did not get points. You have to get 95% on the team exam to get team points. Best way is to find a system in your team to get through the test with as little argument as possible.

has anyone called/emailed Dr. Deyoung about their status?
