RVU-COM (Rocky Vista - Colorado) Interview Discussion thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi all!!! I am new to SDN, but I have read all of the posts for this thread. Congrats to RVU class of 2012! I interviewed on December 19th and received my acceptance that day (paramediclizard... I interviewed with you, and I was thrilled when I discovered that you were accepted as well.)

I am really looking forward to meeting everyone, and I am down to join the group for the Meet and Greet happy hour.

Woo hoo!

I was just going over my secondary, and noticed that at the end in the middle of a paragraph it asks you to "summarize your personal statement" in the "additional info" box. Did you all do this? Seems redundant and unnecessary, no?

I just cut and pasted it I felt that it was a pretty short summary as is. It is also an area to tout anything that you feel did not get attention in the previous parts. Explain low grades letter of recs coming and what not.

I didn't really summarize my personal statement - I pasted my entire AACOMAS personal statement in that spot and added additional information about my personal interests, hobbies, and my current activities. I thought that it would be best to go all-in in that section!

I think that it depends on how your AACOMAS essay was written, what information you included in your other secondary essays to the school, and what message you're trying to convey. In my opinion, the essays combined should be a cohesive unit that flows from one thought to the next, telling a story about you, your path into osteopathic medicine, and any other pertinent information that you want to provide.

I hope this helps! Good luck :luck:!

If it is ok with everyone I would like to meet with all of you at the meet and greet as I just got the call and have become RVU Class 2012. Thanks for all your support and advice. I can't believe it I am still a little shaken from the whole ordeal! What fun and excitement waits us. I am happy to call all of you that have made it classmates and see you all soon.😀

Congratulations on getting in to RVU!! I am SO looking forward to meeting you all! Have we decided on a spot yet? I think that we are going to be the best inaugural class that RVU could have possibly asked for! I know I'm going to try my hardest to make them proud 🙂 I am SO excited for all of us!! YAY RVU!!

Does anyone know how many spots are left? I have my interview friday and wish I had completed everything earlier. I hope there are spots that it is not down to the last couple 🙁

thanks

I wouldn't worry about remaining seats just yet. They've waitlisted some but that doesn't mean that they are not extending offers to fill what I estimate to be the last third of the class. If they invited you to interview then that is a good thing - and good luck at your interview! 👍

I don't know either - Good question to ask at the interview day, though... "I realize that I've applied late in the cycle and I was wondering how full the class is at this point..."

I wouldn't worry, though. I don't think they would still be interviewing if they were completely full.

Good Luck on Friday :luck::luck::luck:!!!!!

same day acceptance!?!???!? via phone or ?

I believe that it was a special case... I interviewed the friday before Christmas, and they said that they would meet and call us that afternoon. It was great to have immediate feedback, but I felt like I was going to vomit the entire day until I got the call. haha
Good luck!
As for the summarize your personal statement question, I chose a different route than others are mentioning. I wrote about a paragraph, highlighting the main points from my personal statement. I then wrote another paragraph emphasizing points of my application that I could not include in my personal statement. I wouldn't stress it too much. I don't think that there was just one way that they wanted everyone to do it. But then again, I wrote a ton for my other questions. When I printed out my application, it was incredibly long!

When I interviewed in mid December, I was told that they had given close to 100 acceptances. However, if they liked what they saw on paper, then you are qualified to be in this class. They were very honest with us when explaining that they only chose to interview candidates that they saw as having potential. They are very thoughtful of the applicants time. Therefore, they already like what they see and want to give you a shot. So I wouldn't worry about how many seats are left... just be friendly and personable. 🙂

Now that I think about it they let me know the same week - on a Friday and after a Monday interview. I was actually sitting in another interview when I got the call (seriously) - and I answered it right then & there... That's called interview hard ball. Remember, you all live in MY world! 😀 😉

yeah that's exactly what I ended up doing. Turned out nice. I'm now realizing I could have added more stuff but I already have the main points included, which is what they wanted. hopefully I'll get an interview to explain the rest 😉 (knock on wood)

:luck:

Heh... :meanie: I didn't really answer during the other interview but my mobile did ring. I waited 'til later - but wouldn't that have been something? 😀

I can picture it now:
Hold on a sec.... yeah...yeah ...thank you. That was another school offering an acceptance. You offering a scholarship with your acceptance...no ...well...what are you offering... not even an immediate acceptance....well... call me when you got something to offer.:meanie:

Haha! I missed your post Libo...

Also, interesting interview question you had there. The dean mentioned that they'd be satisfied if even one person from the class decided to go into rural/underserved practice - so they are more than understanding that some will choose other paths. As we all know, it's based on individual accomplishment in med school so keep an open mind and don't rule out psychiatry if that's your cup-o-tea. 👍

Actually my answer was that my biggest fear is that I will be good at psych I would really hate (have seen to many quacks that I hated and was overmedicated heck was even adopted by my psychologist and that was a nightmare!!!) I was talking to him about how I thought rural medicine would be cool. I think being the jack of all trades and someone that a community really depends on appeals to me. My wife is just afraid I will work for "magic beans" from a guy named jack. Though taking an HPSP scholarship I am sure I will get the chance to serve with the military in some truly "underserved" areas.

Anyone got an interview here yet?

I had an interview there and it is VERY RELAXED. They will just ask you about some of the specifics on your application, and general questions like: Why do you want to become a osteopathic doctor? Stuff like that. Do worry. The only other thing I can say to you is that make sure you say ALL that you want to say. Trust me, most of the people in my group who got interviewed said that they did not have enough time to say everything that they wanted to say.

I hope this was not too late and this was helpful

Good Luck

Okay so the meetings on for the 9th. We need to resolve what time and where. I can't be there until after 4 because I have a baby shower to go to. Also I hate to be bothersome but I cannot go very far because I can't afford to. By the way I got a job as an Operations Processing Technician about six blocks from RVU's current offices. I was thinking Milo's off of Monaco and Evans but now I am thinking maybe someplace a little more Family Friendly so I can bring my wife and daughter. If not no problem I will leave them at home and you all can meet them at the picnic. Well lets here some more ideas people.

Yes - Saturday, February 9. I think we should meet at 6pm (that's a good drinking time) and Milo's is fine. I was also thinking about the Cork House on Colfax and Elm - they have a great wine selection, great drinks and yummy food. Also, it's less sports bar and more family friendly. There was also talk about Thin Man on 17th & Pearl, I think. That's more of a young-ish crowd, and very small, but still fun.

Any other suggestions? Is Liz back yet?

just got called for an interview hollla 😉

Guess who's back...back again...lizard's back...tell a friend:zip:

Wow, looks like I missed a ton. I'm super excited to see good things happening for libo, MikeDO and CandiDO. Congrats to everyone.👍

I get to hop into the work thing with both feet to pay for my lavish Caribbean vacation, but Feb 9th for drinks will work for me. I work that day 7a to 7p and the next day too. But I will show for a cocktail or two. I work at UCH on the Anschutz campus and live in Parker, but I could make it to anywhere within reason.

Cork House sounds good to me I will be there at 6 to get my happy hour on. Maybe we should all put on our RVU Name tags to let each other know who we are:laugh: JK I am sure we will know by the 😀 on our faces.

Hey all,

Anyone else out there interviewing at RVUCOM on Valentines Day? I just got the call yesterday and I'm so excited! RVU is my top choice, I've got another friend who's already accepted here and everything I've heard and read so far has me really excited about the program.

See some of you on Valentines Day, and the rest of you in July (I hope!)

East coast, GG. The ocean is absolutely no substitute for the mountains. And there's too much air down here at sea level.

Ha! Yeah seriously. Our heme is better than your heme !

Although the historical sites and established east-coast "culture" is very interesting, too. I lived in Maryland for about 7 years, and I really enjoyed going to Gettysburg, Salem, the Washington D.C. "Mall", and all the other historical things to do. The east coast is rich in early American history. You're in a gold mine!
