Hello all,
I am a nontrad trying to navigate the pre-med rodeo and figured I could use some help from the experts!
Does anyone have reccos of schools that might take kindly to my app? My primary is verified but I haven't sent to any schools other than my WA state schools given my pending MCAT score (just got the result on 8/17).
Undergrad GPA: cGPA 3.97, sGPA 3.99 (tiny liberal arts school, class of '15 with a BA in Bio)
MCAT: 518 (129, 129, 130, 130)
ORM
WA resident
Undergrad/less recent activities:
-500+ hrs volunteering at free medical + dental clinics for 3 years during undergrad
-150 hrs shadowing at free clinic
-1000 hrs paid biology field research (NOT medical) + thesis presentation (unpublished)
-Worked 20hrs/week during last 3 yrs of undergrad
-440 hrs as CNA
-400 hrs community service with consulting firm
-6000+ hrs as a management consultant (small firm, not Big 4), promoted to senior consultant after 4 years, management + mentor experience etc.
Current/recent activities:
-750 hrs (over past 4 years) Crisis Line volunteer + trainer
-Planning & QI Board Member for local Community Health Center (FQHC)
-20 hrs COVID-19 vaccination clinic volunteer
-60 hrs recent shadowing - all rural FM clinic and SUD clinic
Not included in primary app as I just started in July:
-100+ hrs (and counting) as a scribe for a cardiologist, currently working FT
I want to add some nontrad friendly schools that won't scoff at my lack of medical research.
-I'm interested in primary care
I have a very strong preference to attend a school in the PNW which I think is making it hard for me to come up with a list of other schools to apply to.
Schools I've already applied to:
UW (state school)
WSU (state school)
PNWU (DO state school)
WesternU Lebanon (DO regional school)
Considerations:
Dartmouth
Rochester
MCW
Vermont
UCinn
Thank you for making it through this novel and for any help you may be able to offer!
