I'm feeling particularly chatty tonight, so I thought I'd start a new thread.

Ever since I've been a member of SDN (which hasn't been too long), I've read many posts and often wondered what everyone's 'member names' mean. So, this is the place to share.

For example, mine is LittleWiz because it's my kitten's name. My sister found her and her littermates in the bushes outside of her work when they were about 3 weeks old. She looks a lot like my older cat, Gizmo, whom we call 'Giz' or 'Wiz' for short. So naturally, she became Little Wiz (quite original, right?). We never intended to keep her (because we already had 3 cats), but, alas, she became a permanent member of my household after her adoption did not go well.

So everyone, share yours. 🙂

I couldn't think of something that wouldn't be A) Lame, B) Offensive, and C) Immediately identifiable (give away my alter ego), and it was at that moment I released I had no imagination whatsoever.

My dog's name is Jake and therefore, my super-original (HA!) name is Jakesmom. I have no imagination as well.

My dad has been calling me Bee since before I can remember. Now pretty much everyone does. And 83 is my birth year 😎

Mine's in honor of my golden retriever- Shadow. He's 13.5 years old and the best dog anyone could ask for! 😍

Coquette - My horse's name.
22 - Age when I signed up on SDN.

Creative, aren't I? :laugh:

I'm the master of not being able to pronounce names. How do you pronounce it? I do like it though!

Mine is a mutilation of my horse's name. 😉

My nickname is Dee and my goal is to be a DVM.... so that's where my name comes from... dee.vee.emm!😎

Mine is weird. My first year in the dorms way back, I had a wireless router that my whole floor was using. I was getting it set up with the computer people on campus and the guy asked me to think of a password. I didn't want to use any of my typical passwords or anything personal because a ton of people would be using it, so I blanked out and he told me to say the first phrase that popped into my head. Somehow, it was 'the dog is green'. So that became the password for the fifth floor wireless network, and when I couldn't think of a username for here, it did the job. 😀

canis, as in the latin genus that contains dogs, wolves, jackals, coyotes, etc. I wanted to use canis lupus familiaris, but that was too long...I'm not that much of a wolf/coyote person, although I wouldn't be opposed to working on them as a vet!
and I was born on the 13th.

Thats cute!

Mine is fairly unoriginal. bb are my initials and I event with my mare... therefore... bbeventer. Exciting huh? 😴

"P.S. I Love You" by the Beatles- removed the "you" and added in the name of my significant other of almost six years and best friend of eight years!😀

Mine actually turned out more versatile than I thought.

Hopeful = hopeful to get into vet school
Ag = short for Aggie

Now it's Hopeful = hopeful to graduate vet school and the Ag remains the same.

Mine is the latin word for rhino - because I hand raised rhinos for a few months!! 😍

AND because it was the first thing that popped in my head (that wasn't totally lame) when I signed up for SDN!

I am wholly uncreative. I attend UCLA. 33 is a number.

Gee, I wonder what my screen name could mean. Hmmm. 🙄

Mine is an abbreviation for a nickname a friend gave me on a whim: Little Miss Monkeyshines.

I adore nonhuman primates and 😍 working with them!!

Napoleon was a pretty cool guy. B)

Edit: While the above may be true, the reason I chose "bonaparte" was because I used to have a deep fascination with the French Revolution + Napoleonic Wars when I was a sophomore in college.

Mine is a shortening/mutilation of my nickname (Ellie --> lei) and the numbers are my birthday (March 25). Nothing too exciting for me! I've had 'lei' in my online nicknames for various sites (and AIM) since I was in 8th grade. Haven't felt the need to change it up yet. 😀

Katryn is my old fail safe for female Dungeons and Dragons characters, World of Warcraft characters, when I feel like renaming console RPG characters, and "oh crap, my english teach is making me write a story" characters. After several years of playing WoW, I got so used to being called Katryn that I respond to it in public :laugh:, so it seemed like a good SDN name when nothing else inventive was forthcoming.

My golden's name was Shadow too, there is an empty void in my heart that can never be filled, as she passed away a few years ago quietly in her sleep. She lived to be a ripe old age of 13. She was, as I am sure your Shadow is, the best dog ever.

My name, is what I intend to be! Super creative I know. Not trying to be pompous with it. It also has a sweet sound to it, something futuristic, like a robot or something...? Maybe I was on little to no sleep when I created it, yep we will stick with that 😛

Mine is a nickname I gave to myself, I hated the ones that are used normally with my name it sounds to me like someone is sneezing and trying to call my name at the same time.

It's not the full nickname either which is a mutilation of my initials, all four of them.

Welelu means hummingbird in Cherokee 🙂

when I was in middle school, all the neighborhood kids would build forts in the woods and play from sun up to sun down, so we took on indian names.............. yeah, well I was 12.. and the name just stuck.

When I made my first ever e-mail account, I wanted my address to have the complete name of a bird of prey in it, with no numbers or extra letters. The first few I tried were taken, but Rough-legged Hawk was available, and I've used it ever since.

Once, when I told a guy that e-mail address, he asked if that meant I didn't shave my legs. :laugh:

Rough-legged hawks are neat. I only see them in the winter, since they breed in the Arctic. Their legs are feathered to the toes, hence the name.

To confuse things, my avatar is not a rough-legged hawk but a photo I took of pair of juvenile bald eagles having a dispute over a food item.

mine is also SUPER orginial.....
heylo = hello
Deb = well...my name...

I laughed so hard when I read this. I also answer to my WoW character's name... I'll completely miss someone saying my actual name but if you call "VIRLIEF!" (pronounced: veer LEAF) I'm there in a second. 🙄 oh..I'm a nerd.

My husband got one of our friends really drunk at his batchelor party....quote of the night: "The bald one bought me drinks" "...hun, he has a name...." "yeah, well, I didn't want to call him Sellas(WoW name)." It was histerical

Nite: I used to be a night owl, staying up til 4am playing online computer games...I use nite instead of night to be more creative I guess😛

Angel: the name of a character from one of my favorite books (Cider House Rules). which is also what my black cat Angel is named after.

11 years ago these words were put together and I use it for everything (even online gaming).

EnvyPointers = my kennel name.

"Envy" because I love the color green and is the "color" of my kennel, so the name stuck.

Pointers because I raise and show Pointers. 😀

Jam are the 1st 3 letters of my name, and I like rock music.

I've used JamRock or JamRockin for 8+ years as a screenname/e-mail.

I was eating a bag of skittles at the time I signed up, and they are one of my favorites. Skittles alone was already taken, so I was super creative and stuck a 12 after it.

Wanted to convey that I was leaving my career and becoming a student again but the first 4 or 5 names I tried were taken. Ended up with SOV but was never completely happy with it because it made me sound like I was a vet who was starting over instead of a person starting over to be a vet.

Whatever.

Maybe I should change my name to AvoidingStudying. That would be WAY more accurate.

I may have posted this in the older thread, but I was too lazy to look!

I often feel like I've "gone to the dogs" (= gone2dogs), and at any given moment I can have between 2 and 5 dogs in my tiny house. 5 is unusual, but has happened at least twice... I usually only have 3. Only 2 are permanent residents though. I also feel like I've gone to the dogs because I am accompanied by a dog essentially 24 hours a day (since I volunteer as a guide dog puppy raiser). Sometimes I worry that people won't know who I am without a dog by my side!

Mine is a very silly play on my real name (first initial N, and that's all I'm telling ya 😉 ). It's really obvious if you know my name.

Mine is a mutilation of my horse's name. 😉
OFF TOPIC:
That reminds me of all the crazy name I give my horsies...all stemming from their actual names. I call my pony Cakester his real name Casey

Ricki Annie Cara Cate Casey Jim Luc Molly (RACCCJLM) - Ricki's my dog and the rest are the raccoons I raised during a wildlife rehab internship

Wow thats neat! Did you enjoy working with the raccoons? My only experience with them up close is when 2 of them came into the clinic to get spayed and neutered. I cant say they were the most pleasant of patients.

I worked on a dairy for quite a few years - hence the milkmaid handle - and couldn't come up with anything else creative when I joined an online cattle discussion forum many moons ago. I'm usually known as "milkmaid" online but have a few other alter egos.

I've been wondering about yours!
Does anyone else try to hear people's member name's in their head as if spoken? Well, RACCCJLM, yours doesn't exactly roll off my mental tongue.

:laugh::laugh: I always think of pronouncing it "Sigh- Lo- VET- Ohm- as" (With the silent "P" and everything). Yeah... pretty much butchered that one. :laugh::laugh:

Wow, this is similar to how I chose my name! I "used to be" (read: secretly still am) really into the whole pre-revolution era of French history...Louis XIV, Marie Antoinette...etc. Well, Louis XIV is Le Roi Soleil (the sun king) so I kinda tweaked it to be La Reine Soleil (the sun queen).

...wow my name explanation looks super nerdy all typed out like that! *French major alert!* :laugh:

Mine is from an anime. Also chose it because I'm half Japanese, love Japan and anime. That and I'm not creative or have no imagination according to my SO. 🙄 I'd change it to something related to Big Bang Theory if I could because that show is amazing.

Maybe I should change my name to AvoidingStudying. That would be WAY more accurate.

I literally LOL-ed when I read this.

I studied so much for my last exams (finished today!) I had to reset my bank and mobile phone company passwords because I pushed it out to make room for immunology, inflammation, parasitology, bacteriology, and virology. You can do it SOV! 😀
