SGU c/o 2021

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My interview was on 9/28... so nervous to find out a response. They said about 5-7 weeks for a final decision, but maybe sooner. I just want to know 🙁

I interviewed with them on 10/5, so a week after you! I got my email saying thanks for the interview and that it'd be 5-7 weeks on 10/11, so almost a full week after my interview. I wonder if they mean 5-7 weeks from the time of the interview, or the email. Either way it seems like forever haha

Interview done. Wasn't as long as I had anticipated. Some of the questions I hadn't expected, but answered to the best of my ability. Now the wait game!
I just got my interview request. Still have to schedule it. So nervous..what types of questions were you asked, if I may ask?

Congrats on the interview request! Try not to be nervous, I felt it was pretty laid back. I was asked questions about what type of experiences I have, what sets me apart from other candidates, etc. I was also given time to ask the interviewer questions.

Good luck everyone and congrats to those with acceptances! Let me know if you have questions about anything, I'm in my third year at SGU now 🙂

How do you like it? I live in South Florida, so I'm used to a more tropical environment but what is it like living in Grenada as far as culture and things go? I know there is a high unemployment rate for the natives and I was wondering if that affects the students as far as theft and safety goes as well. I'm definitely visiting the school over winter break, but it's hard to really grasp the whole picture with just a visit.

Generally I like it and I've had a great experience overall here. The crime rate in Grenada is relatively low for Caribbean islands and countries in general, but yes there are definitely instances of students' cars or apartments getting broken into. My car was broken into about a month ago and my boots I have to wear to work with the cows and horses got stolen, but nothing else since I just don't really keep stuff in my car. As long as you practice common sense safety measures, keep all your doors locked, never leave anything valuable in your car, you'll be okay. The Grenadians can be kind of overwhelming haha culture is very different but for the most part they are nice and friendly. Certain things can be frustrating since "island time" is definitely a very real concept here and things can be slow but you adjust.

I got accepted to the January term back in the end of August! The interview process was super laid back, with the interviewer just asking you questions over skype. The woman I had was a previous student there and answered any questions I had regarding the entire process.

If you have any questions feel free to let me know. I just got back from visiting the island and have to say it's absolutely beautiful there.

Was an essay part of the interview? Or have they done away with that?

They've done away with the essay part! Also, the interview is a closed interview, so your interviewer knows nothing about you (at least that's how it is if you travel to an alumni, I don't know about Skype ones).

Skype ones are also closed.

Got my interview request around 9/16 and interviewed 10/12! Excited about the results, but worried overall haha. I felt I did good, interviewer seemed genuinely surprised with most of my answers so I can take that as a good sign. My interview was about an hour, 30 minutes for the questions and 30 minutes of us talking about the school and location.

Found out last Friday... I got accepted!! Good luck everyone!!!

Congrats! 🙂. I interviewed on 9/24. Still no news yet.. got an email on 10/24 stating that my final determination should be available by the third week of November. So here's hoping I'll find out soon!

Tomorrow is the big day for me, looking forward to getting this interview out of the way. Keeping those still waiting for a reply in my thoughts, I'll be holding my breath soon, too.

I was interviewed on 10/24 and I'm already so impatient lol. I just want to know if vet school is a for sure thing for me. Students who have already been interviewed: how long did it take them to get back to you on whether or not you were accepted?

Thank you! I'm sure I'll be checking my email the same way, lol. Waiting it is definitely a challenging task! Hoping you get great news soon!

How long ago did both of you interview?

My interview was on 9/24 and I have yet to hear anything. I was last told that my final determination was slated for the third week of November and still nothing. Sigh.

My interview was on 10/1. I emailed Krista a week or two ago and she told me my decision would be sent out closer to December/January.

Ok so i just also got an acceptance for the january class (which i can definitely not accept for) and waitlisted for August. What is the deal? Is it just that they want to fill their january class?

Probably :\

Just got an e-mail saying my final determination will be made after I send in my Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semester grades. Ugh now it's going to be a long wait :/

I just got acceptance for January and waitlist for August as well, but I think I'm going to take the January seat... Just have to make sure I can get everything together in 1 month...

Congrats! Let me know if you have any questions about anything!

Oy vey I am getting anxious. I was told back in late October that my application was slated for final determination by the third week of November. Third week of November came and I received nothing. Got an email yesterday stating that decisions would be sent out in sometime in December/January. I interviewed back in late September. For those of you who have been accepted or waitlisted, do you have any pre reqs remaining to finish?

I graduated in May with no classes remaining that I needed to finish.

Ok thanks. I have already graduated as well (have two bachelors) but I never took Biochemistry or Physics sequence. Finished Biochem last spring and am currently finishing up Physics I and am enrolled to be in Physics II next semester. I am wondering if that is why mine keeps getting pushed back.

I received an e-mail from Krista saying the final decision for my application would be made December 2nd. I interviewed Oct. 5

Did any of you (anyone who got the August wait list but January acceptance) get a phone call today? I got one reminding me that I was accepted for January, that the August class was full but will start moving when US acceptances come out, but then he said the committee decided to also accept me for January 2018 as well...

The class starting in August 2017 is really full?

He said to me, "the August 2017 class is looking pretty full at this point..." (Sounds to me that if it is not full, then it is pretty close to being so?) But went on to say the wait list moves pretty fast once people start hearing back from the US schools
