SGU c/o 2026

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Accepted into class for January 2023, and waitlist for August 2022. They mentioned in the email that August 2022 class was full. So there's a possibility of getting off the waitlist for the August 2022 class.

My interview was exactly a month ago today, and my final determination email was three days later. Has anyone with this same timeline(ish) heard back yet?

I interviewed on November 1st and heard back this week. It could be that you'll be in the next cycle of decisions if you haven't heard anything. I was waitlist for August 2022 and accepted for Jan 2023 as they said their August class is full already.

I (FINALLY) heard back yesterday and was accepted for Jan '23 because Aug '22 is full (just like honeypot99 said)... Has anyone paid the deposit for a spot on the waitlist or are you waiting to hear from US schools first? Not sure how the waitlist works at all

I'm still waiting to hear from US schools. I would imagine the waitlist will move more closer to April.

Hey!! NC resident here! I got accepted back in October and I have a couple questions for anyone who knows the answer or can point me in the right direction. I was wondering how clinics year works? I know they try to match people with a school, but what if they don’t get matched?? Is this possible? Huge concern for me because if you don’t get matched what happens??

I went to their webinar and they mentioned that you choose your top 3 preferred locations and almost everyone will typically get their first pick.

So you get to pick 4 schools that you want to go to clinics at in order from highest priority that you want. SGU provides a list of all of the schools that they have contracts with to do clinical year at and have the GPA requirements along with how each school has clinics structured. They have never had any students not be able to get placed. They will find a school to take you (may not be your first choice depending on things). Your GPA pretty much will determine which schools you are able to choose from. Each clinical year school allows a certain amount of students each semester (changes every semester) and depending on how many other people pick specific schools/their GPA's will depend on if you get your top choice. Most people get either their first or second choice. You have clinical year school presentations 2-3 times during your whole time at SGU, so they'll go over everything with you. Nothing really to stress about! They make the process super easy.

I’m waiting for Ohio before putting down the deposit

In all honesty, you have until whatever the date is to decide, unless you get accepted into your top choice there’s no point not waiting to put a deposit down and hold out for other offers ESPECIALLY a school like SGU because that is a HUGE move

I'm not too worried about the move, but agree that if you aren't sold on SGU to wait. But for me, if I get rejected from Ohio I would be comparing LMU, UofA and SGU together. Out of those (for right now) I rank SGU more highly for their partnerships with teaching hospitals, the Global Vet Health Track, and their research professors. But overall the main idea is that if you decide to go to SGU you should go with the intent that you can be happy living far from home, and on an island that will be your next 4 years of education instead of going with the intent to transfer.

I would love SGU solely for the global vet health track but my acceptance there is through the foundations program so that’s a big factor for me that outweighs that. I only care about the distance and how to get there because of my animals not being far from home

Hey! Does anyone know how to send updated fall 2021 transcripts? Not sure how to include email through clearinghouse.

Hi guys! Quick question. Is it true that international students have to take the NAVLE along with the ECFVG exam (The Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) to practice in the states? Thank you!!

Students from AVMA accredited schools only have to take the NAVLE, no additional testing. SGU is accredited so graduates from SGU do not have to take the ECFVG.

Accepted! Add me on IG: @roadto_drhester and reach to say hello! I’ll be posting more about my vet med journey as I have before applying and during applying

Just got an interview how do I prepare? What were somethings looked for during the interview? Did you have a in person interview?
GOT ACCEPTED! Follow me on Insta I’ll be posting more in the future in regards to vet school!

How is everyone doing? How many people put their deposit down?

I am waiting on one OOS but the waiting game is killing me.

I’m waiting to hear from two schools in the states but if those don’t work out, im probably gonna out my deposit down at SGU (for the prep program)

I’m putting my deposit down some time soon, I had to email the admissions about the process because I was confused. Just kind of hoping to move off the waitlist for fall 2022

EDIT: I’ve been going back and forth trying to decide if I should put a deposit down. When I emailed, they made it sound like if I wanted to stay on the waitlist I need to pay the deposit.

Waiting to hear from one school. Not sure about putting a deposit down even if that fails since I was shuffled to the prep program.

Did anyone get a ranking for the waitlist for august?

Does anyone know how to go about turning down an offer?

I believe you send an email to the vet admissions email
Thank you! I was thinking about it and wasn’t sure wHat to do for them. I know some schools sent a link to people to fill out if they weren’t interested

Did anyone get a ranking for the waitlist for august?
I was told that the waitlist is unranked and when a seat becomes available it is chosen at the discretion of the selection committee.
Also, did the people that were waitlisted for Fall 2022 already get an SGU email?

In case anyone was waitlisted for the FTV program in august, I just declined my seat, so one is open. Good luck everyone!!

Yeah they don't make it very clear, which is a huge turn-off from the school. Ross, on the flip side, has been incredible and sent tons of emails about next-steps and whatnot. When I emailed SGU regarding the deposit, they told me something different than what was on the acceptance letter. I was told that regardless of whether I want to "stay" on the Aug waitlist (I did not know I was already on it... I haven't put down a deposit at all) or remain in the January class (I was accepted for the Jan class), I would not have to pay a deposit until April 15th. From what I understood from the acceptance letter, a deposit is supposed to be put down if we want to be put on the Aug waitlist, otherwise we remain in the Jan class. So... yeah, I'm not sure, but I am a-ok starting in Jan and am still waiting for some state schools to send their decisions, so I'm not super concerned about it yet haha. Would be nice to know though.

Hey guys! I interviewed late Feb 2022 for SGU and Ross Vet and heard back from Ross super quick. I got accepted for May term but I really want to go to SGU. I’m thinking of deferring Ross to Jan to give SGU more time to hear back. What do you guys think? Anyone interviews in Feb and heard back already? I’d hate to defer Ross’s May term to Jan and then hear after that I didn’t get into SGU🙁

Should I email my admissions officer and explain the situation to see if i can get an answer sooner? Or would that do more harm than good?
Thanks!
I think you should email them, it should not cause any harm.

Are there any current SGU students here that I could talk to? I'm trying to make my decision asap

Just declined my seat for the August 2022 DVM program. Hopefully that helps someone!

I just declined my seat for fall 2022.
I have not yet made a decision on where I will be attending but I have narrowed down my offers to either Royal Veterinary College of London or the Ohio State University.
I wish you all the best of luck and hopefully my seat will go to someone in this forum. 🙂

I will be declining my seat for fall 2022.
Heading to Iowa instead 🙂 good luck !

I accepted my seat for Fall 2022. Does anyone know if we have a facebook group yet?
