SOAP 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i really hate how utterly backwards the system seems sometimes. a student goes through med school, invests a massive amount of debt, develops a passion for a certain specialty, really wants to devote their life to it....then is told they have to do something completely different because that's just how it works.

I was explaining this whole process to a guy a started dating a few months ago. He's from another country so didn't know at all how the match worked. And the more I explained the more he was like what?!?! That makes absolutely no sense. Then, when I told him how much I paid eras to apply to programs he literally lost his mind lol. He was like so essentially you have to pay to apply for a job, what is the BS? I was like yep, that's how this whole thing works. Ugh.

"offers are being generated" here we go again............

seriously, what are the chances they fixed the unknown "glitch" from wave 1..........i don't know if my heart can take this again.

well in wave 1, i think the latest an offer popped up for someone was after 40 minutes? or was there one longer than that?

From what I understood 3-5 this afternoon, but the poster above who spoke to the NRMP said it could go till tomorrow...who knows

It starts again tomorrow morning at 9. That's what it says.

In the first round, it took 71 minutes for everyone to get a page that didn't say "offers are being generated"

whats the point of refreshing? why not just come back around 4:30 and check, since the deadline is 5pm anyway? you'll still know if its still generating or not, and whether or not you have offers.

there goes my heart again. feels like it's gonna jump out of my chest.

There are less spots and fewer applicants now. Things should move quicker. Say, 68 mins this time 😉

way less spot..but only about 100 less applicants out of the 3000 + soaping..omg this sux

not participating in the SOAP, but just wanted to wish each and everyone the best of luck! I have several friends in my class going through this tough time, and this forum has been so good to me throughout the years that I love to stay involved.

gonna go run some errands...no point in refreshing, might as well get something productive done

You can take a year off for research, etc to improve your app and reapply. I wouldn't want a different specialty because it was open.

And again we're made to wait. Even though I know i won't be getting anything...

YES! Thank you for sharing my sentiment. Yet I keep hearing of these schools telling their students to match wherever in whatever...maybe purely out of selfish reasons to keep their match numbers up?

I was just offered a spot and had it taken away in the next breath. Supposedly their TY does not count for radiology applicants... ACGME rule? He was all, "I'm so sad. We have a spot for you and I wanted to make a deal with you, but ACGME has made it very clear to us that our program wards months must be run by IM not FM faculty in order to count for radiology." I just broke down crying in my school's parking lot. I just can't anymore.

Help Urgent, If I take an offer for a prelim position in IM can I reapply next year for a 3 year categorical IM program?

The program that interviewed me still had all positions unfilled after the last round! Here's keeping my fingers crossed

But what is this then? http://www.theabr.org/ic-dr-req, granted it's from the ABR not the ACGME, but still.

Not 100% sure. You would essentially be required to repeat an internship, which would suck. It would come down to whether or not GME funding would allow it, and honestly I don't have a great answer for you.
