Stanford Interviewees: Notified Recently?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
according earlier posts and my knowledge, there should be two lists.
+ First Alternate List = guaranteed spots for next year
+ Ranked Waitlist = Wait till the day before class to know if you get in this year.

Do people get that "I hope to see you next year" kind of goodbye greetings when they interview, esp. from the dean? I dont wanna dig deep under this cryptic msg but some friends (actually 2) told me they were told that at the end of their interview...😕

yay, received the package today saying that I'm on the First Alternate list! 🙂 Congratulations to those who were accepted/first-alternated/waitlisted! I didn't get a phone call, probably because it's not a straight acceptance. Likely reviewed last Thursday since it was postmarked Apr 16th. East Coast, and interviewed on Mar 16th.

I have a question, perhaps those who were accepted can help me. When is the deposit for matriculation due?

I also am dying to know how many get put on First Alternate, and how they will find out when a spot opens up (mail is too slow!).

I checked the thread from last year, people were pulled off the WAITLIST starting from April 11th! But I heard from Cassandra at my interview that she didn’t think anyone was put on the First Alternate List last year… But hopefully, this means that they don't overaccept too much at first!

Looking for cheap plan tickets now…

Both of my interviewers said that, which made me suuuuper excited.

does anyone know if this list moves during the year at all?

Congrats Caribou and WKK!

I had no idea there was a First Alternate List... now I know there is no way I'm getting in ... oh well, it wasn't meant to be.

Good luck to all of you still waiting. :luck:

I interviewed during the first week of April. Has anyone who interviewed during (or after) that time heard anything?

My second question... I am a strong applicant but I only got accepted to one school, U of Colorado. Its a good school but I feel I am qualified to attend a more prestigious school, not that CU is bad. So do I take a year off and reapply or suck it up and go to CU, which also has the most expensive med. school in Newsweek's top 50 list of school? I appreciate your thoughts.

From an earlier post, a March 16 interviewee was reviewed last week or the previous week. So chances are that you will be reviewed this coming week. I think you could call and ask cassandra.

I am confused about this First Alternate business. It seems like a recent thing and was never mentioned at my interview (in Jan). What does this mean for us regular waitlisters? Do we have no chance of getting in this year??

From what I've gathered, the First Alternate people are basically the high waitlist: They either get a spot this year, or have a reserved spot next year. If all the First Alternate people get in, then they'll move to the normal waitlist. I really think there will be close to zero movement on the normal waitlist, although I know a very few do come off the waitlist every year, and I met a couple students that came off the waitlist at my interview. Good luck to you and the rest of us on the normal waitlist.

Do not, I repeat, Do not turn down an offer of admission. All schools that you apply to next year will blacklist you and you are in danger of getting in nowhere. There was a thread describing one particular student's decision to drop an osteopathic school, find that one.

Bottom line, you should have only applied to schools that you would go to if you didn't get in anywhere else.

This thursday meeting will determine the fates of early april interviewees i think ....

Any word if there was a meeting today? There was a report on a previous thread of a Tuesday AdCom meeting. Has anyone heard anything this past week? This thread has been very quiet...

I don't understand. Are you saying that if I reapply every school I applied to this year will somehow devalue my application since I had applied the previous year. I understand that the school I got into might be upset that I didn't go and therefore choose not to accept me, but why wouldn't other schools respect my persistance and apparent desire to attend their school?

ah~ so i receive my WL letter yesterday =( =(
good luck to those who are still waiting!

I believe the general thinking is this (Please correct me if I'm wrong):

Q: Why do you wanna be a doctor?
A: To help people.

Q: So you can't help people with a fine MD degree from another school?
A: Well it's not that, I just feel like a more research oriented school would be more suitable to my career goals.

Q: So wait, you want to help people, and all of a sudden this is about you?
A: Um...

Q: So what you said before is a lie! This is all about you, isn't it? You can do research at practically any medical school!
A: Wait a minute...

Q: That's it. Doors are closed. This kid is selfish.
A: 😕

Bottom line is that supposedly schools will blacklist you for this, and since there appears to be a few anecdotes floating around suggesting as much, it's best not to take the risk. Who knows what goes on in those secret adcom meetings anyway? This process seemed to have little rhyme or reason in the first place, why should it start having some now? =P

Sorry to hear that :-| . I'll try to convince some people out of it at the second-look 👍

👍
The other part is that they will think you lied that you wanted to come to the school you got accepted to. Sudden change of heart? To them, that then reveals a lack of planning ability.

Sorry to hear that :-| .

same here

haha, I'll join you in convincing people to turn down the offer or defer...open up spots for myself for this year, and for those on the waitlist with Stanford as their top choice. :luck:

Does anyone have any info. on what interview dates were reviewed tonight? Did anyone receive a phone call? I interviewed on 4/10 and was told to expect to hear in 2-4 weeks...

i interviewed on 4/2 and no words yet :-( i will keep you all posted!

DO you mean acceptance calls have been going out? Hoe did you hear this?

Thanks, 535488! I wonder if April 10th interviewees were included?? Do you have any info on that? Doesn't look like ADCOM is in any hurry to get us processed...unbelievable. Wouldn't you think they would be attempting to meet more often than Thur. afternoons to get the April interviewees done? I don't believe that any of us wanted this late-date interview situation to begin with...😕

As of April 16, there would be 2-3 more meetings to finish up april interviewees i think...

when was your interview? have you heard anything yet?

april, expecting a rejection... 🙁

Why so pessimistic? You obviously have met their requiremants or you wouldn't have rec'd an interview. Did you hear from Admissions that you were reviewed last night? Stay positive, 535488!

Also, was wondering about the late March interviewees. It seems that many early March interviewees were reviewed on 4/17, but what about the rest of the month? Other than Durfen, haven't heard much from this group. Any news anyone can share? I interviewed on 4/10; has anyone who interviewed the week of April 9th, or later, rec'd any news?
:luck: :luck: to those of us waiting this out.

Yeah, I emailed and asked. Gonna wait for the snail mail now. It could be that this weekend is md admit wkend so they are too busy to call? Or maybe the class is full and everyone will be on WL, Alt or Rej list?

We have all read that not everyone gets called that is accepted...In one of your previous threads you mentioned that "calls went out... " If you don't mind me asking again, where did you pick up on this info? Through the email from Admissions? Sorry if I am asking too many questions, just trying to get any info at all. I've was admitted to Yale and UCLA (long ago) and this last-minute waiting around is really annoying...

:luck: :luck: Let us know when you hear anything!

Has anyone who applied anytime in april heard anything yet? (I interviewed early april and no phone calls from the 605 area code(I think its 605 or 650 or something?)

waiting for monday calls... or maybe first alt snail mails... then I will start again in June ...

The area code up here is 650 🙂 Best of luck to those of you waiting!

love your sarcasm soy sauce. it's enlightening during these waiting moments😀

lol gotta be jealousy then .no mail as of today. tomorrow here i come

No, not jealousy. I just found it amusing that da moz mentioned he was accepted to UCLA and Yale for no apparent reason whatsoever. No reason, none! Haha lol. Wait... he was already accepted... so... it makes waiting more annoying?

Now that people are starting to get First Alternate positions, it seems that their class is full...so I wouldn't expect a phone call. Hopefully First Alternate by mail!

Lots of people at the second look may not be coming here. There were only 90 students there (out of a class of 86). So given that say 20% at an absolute minimumsay no after coming, 10 seats may become available...

I think thisd Thursday will be the last meeting of adcom. mmm expecting some bad news in the mail tomorrow 😀

no news for me yet either. Interviewed first week of April and I live in CA so I should receive a letter very soon if they were sent last week. I think the last meeting will probably be this Thursday. Unfortunately, I think that since I haven't heard anything I might be receiving bad news. (I'm still hopeful though.) There is a part of me that thinks they might have just fallen behind and left all the April applicants to be reviewed this last week. Though they told me they would try to get back to us by second look weekend, the admissions admitted it might take until early may, specifically May 15th at the latest.....so there might be some hope. (P.s. if I don't get in "the secrete" doesn't work LOL)

No, Soy Sauce, my comment was directed to 535488 (certainly not to you!) because we had been going back and forth about the early April interviews and the interminable waiting game. Seems you didn't bother to check the previous threads. We are both waiting at this very late date (May 15, remember?) and not even being reviewed at the end of April is annoying. And my comment referring to those two schools was becasue they were the last ones I heard from - and that was quite a while ago. Secondly, why would you presume I am a "he." THAT is tragic! Are you even in this boat with the rest of us (from the last several weeks) - waiting?

Congrats , durfen! How was Second Look? Can you share any pros and cons?

Da Moz, how 'bout a smile ***** cat? I didn't mean to interrupt your oh-so-personal conversation or tragically insult you by referring to you as a "he." Wipe up down there.

Yes, waiting is annoying, but being accepted to two great schools should take the pressure off. Personally, I think it's a bit rude to trumpet one's acceptances. Whatever... you probably didn't put that much thought into it, so it's no big deal.

I would bet that Stanford has already accepted more than 86 people. Stanford needs to hear back from them before more spots open up... so if you're that anxious to be put on a waitlist, so be it.

Da Moz, I like you, do you like me?
