Sullivan University Anyone?

Biolover,

Even though I'm not from Kentucky, (I'm actually right across the river in the Hoosier state) Louisville is one of my favorite places in the ENTIRE WORLD!! It has a nice feel to it. Not big city like Chicago, but not small either, like Indianapolis. It's a nice medium, and it's very beautiful! I hope you like it just as much as I do! 🙂

Oh and as far as weather, expect snow and rain, but I guess it wouldn't be as bad as northern Indiana ( or is it? Wes what do you think? More ice?)

Good luck on your interview! Everyone is very nice and helpful!

im from sacramento and I had my interview on october 8. I stayed at the best western airport east inn in louisville which is a mile from sullivan university college of pharmacy. the shuttle from the hotel actually picked me up from the college after my interview which was great and they did it for free. If you have any questions just email me. Us cali folks got to stick together lol

yup yup..heeh..i am from oakland by the way!

Thank you so much, Wes011. I am very curious about the area and weather as well. I wish it's not too cold and rainy over there. I heard that the state is known as the "Blue Grass" with lots of prairies, isn't it? I'm so excited. I can not wait until December.

When did you receive the invitation interview? 🙂

Yeahhhh... i"m from Sacramento as well 🙂 but my interview is on Decem 18th. It would be the last one, and could be placed on the waitlist, but I'm not worried about it 😛

Also, Wes011, do you know any affordable, safe hotel/inn/motel that is close to the campus that I can walk or take the taxi to the school on the interview day, besides Breckinridge Inn🙂? Thanks

Quality Inn and Suites is right on Bardstown road 0.35 miles away according to Expedia.

Go to expedia.com and look for hotels by address and type in SUCOP address: 2105 Gardiner Lane, Louisville, KY 40245 and it pulls right up. According to the map provided, it is right on the other side of the expressway, but I have never stayed there before.

You might be able to rent a cheap car.

Geez this school has too many Cali students......where are my Kentucky people? are you guys in the house? representing Kentucky! home of the brave!

I'm a Kentucky boy, born and raised. I've got the bourbon collection to prove it!

Hep B is a 3 shot vaccine. You get 1, 2nd is 1 month later, and 3rd is 6 months after 2nd shot. So you know it will take atleast 7 months to get them all.

Polio and TDP you should have already had. Can you get a blood titer to see if you have immunity?
Thanks for info. What if I do not have Polio and TDP ? how many shots of these are there ? and what does TDP mean ?

Thanks in advance

When did you receive the invitation interview? 🙂

I received the invitation on Sep 25th but it took me 2 days to call for the schedule 😳. In the email they told me to call for November/Dec but when I called, Dec 10th is the earliest day available.

By the way, thanks folks, I booked the ticket and hotel already, yay :luck:. I am sure will love Louisville like some of you here do. I think I saw it in my dream already 🙂. Good luck to all of us.

😍 I am from San Jose, by the way. Is anybody here from SJ too?

I'm local! (OC, actually, but close enough, right? 😀)

Cali is definitely in the building. We produce the best pharmacists, doctors, and women HANDS DOWN lol!!!!

hahahah they are in the house! Women? you mean cali girls are the beautiful ones? I have to see it to believe it:laugh:. There are several pharm schools in Cali so why is everyone coming over here? not enough schools over there? I bet class of 2013 will have at least 60% Asian.

Cali most definitely has beautiful girls. I went to Berkeley for a campus visit when I was looking at engineering schools. I nearly skipped the flight home😍

Northern Indiana is much worse since you are on the lake, when it comes to snow. Louisville, is hit with more ice and freezing rain but we usually don't get it too often. Of course I say that and we have had bad ice storms the past couple years. I'd just say find an apt. near the school if you can.

Louisville is a gorgeous city, however, I bet you experience some allergies if you move here.

Polio should just be one shot. DTaP vaccine (DTP) is a vaccine that protects against 3 things: Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis. And that should be one shot as well.

If you have been in the US school system, these are all required. If you don't have your vaccination information, then go to your family doctor and see about getting them all. If they cannot do them, check out your local clinics and hold onto the paperwork.

I have been to Cali and have to respectfully disagree. If Cali produces the best doctors why are you coming to school in KY? 🙂

And as far as women, you haven't seen anything till you meet some Southern Belles. If you ever get the opportunity to go to an SEC Football game at the University of Kentucky when they are playing Georgia, prepare to have your jaw drop.

I met a lot of Georgia girls on spring break during my younger years, and Wes speaks the truth!

Wes I have no need to go to a university of kentucky game. I have no desire to watch a team get embarrassed in person year in and year out. Also, los angeles has more people than the whole state of kentucky combined so I'm sure our chicks look better because we have more women. Last but not least, the state of kentucky can't produce enough pharmacists to fulfill the need if your state which is second only to alaska with regards to needing pharmacists. You should thank us california people for coming to kentucky. We will save your state lol.

This is not true! In fact, all states can't produce enough pharmacists. I think Kentucky is doing Cali a favor to accept you:laugh: I still believe Sullivan College of Pharmacy is the best school! It is a new school with the latest techs and quality profs. UCSF is overrated because the school is older than most schools.

First, you obviously do not understand the difference in quality vs. quantity when it comes to women. Sure you can have more women, but that does not mean that you have better looking women. For example, would you rather date 10 women that were rated a "1" on a scale of 1-10, two women that were rated a "5" or one woman rated a "10". If I were single, I know which one I'd answer. I can say one thing for certain, and you might not ever get to experience this living in southern cal but.....the first day of spring was my favorite day in the world while in college. For months you saw women all bundled up because it was cold.....and then the layers come off. Definitely brightens your day.

Second, unless you out of towners plan on staying in Kentucky after completing school, you really aren't helping out the shortage situation here then are you? I suspect most of the out of towners will go back home to practice. You have more pharmacy schools in Cali and the Californians go back to Cali (I'm going going back back to Cali Cali...sorry song stuck in my head)....so you have even more practicing pharmacists located there. And people wonder why they have a hard time in certain locations finding jobs.

UK plays in the best football conference in the land, which is a completely OT from this forum. With that being said, I am sure you love USC or UCLA. Have fun with that. I will give you props on the USC cheerleaders though and on Lane Kiffin's (UT coach) wife. I think she is from Cali but I could be wrong.

And last time that I checked, I commented on southern belles in general, not that the state of Kentucky has more physically attractive women. In fact, I believe the state of Georgia is the winner. If the sample set at the football game is consistent with the population of women in the state of Georgia as a whole, I am convinced there is nothing below an 8 living in that state. LOL If I were single and willing to relocate, I'd be applying to pharmacy schools in Alabama or Georgia, etc...simply for scenery.

Since I am happily married, I will be going to what I think is a fantastic school, even if they are a new school. I love what they are doing at Sullivan and I know they will build a great program and do wonderful things here.....now they just have to accept me. 😉

well said.....Cali people should be honored to go to this school....I think after grad most people will avoid Cali because their living standard is too high......I would go to Alaska because the pharmacists get paid very high:laugh:over there. The average is around $60 an hr.:xf:

6 months of light and 6 months of darkness. No thanks.

With that being said, I know you can do some good stuff as a pharmacist with the US Public Health Sector in Alaska.

If you like to live quiet then Alaska is a place to be.........maybe live there for a couple of years then move to another state? You could pay off your loans within 2 years.......

Great info.
I had only one shot for Hepatis B and I might get another one tomorrow along with Polio and TDP. So do you( Wes011) think I should I sent these paperwork up to Paige or waiting to get all three shots for Hepatis B ?
is it possible for getting third shot after a week having second shot ?

Please help out , thanks

Hep B vaccine schedule goes like this:
shot 1
shot 2 - 1 month later
shot 3 - 6 months after shot 2.

The earliest you can be done with it is 7 months. So you should start now if you have not done it. Go ahead and get your immunization stuff in ASAP and update it with Sullivan (send in paperwork) as you get your shots.

Oh and I received my certified letter today. I am officially accepted into the Class of 2013 at Sullivan University!!!! 😀

She is very proud. When I opened that letter it was very confusing at first, I didn't think that I got in...and then you keep reading and it's like congratulations. She and I both did double takes.

She did tell me this is my last time going back to school and it had better be worth it.

I would have to join facebook before I join the facebook group.

WES=== CONGRATS!!!!😀 😀😀 I really wish and hope to join you guys soon. still waiting for my interview!!! but will update you guys...

Grats wes!

Also- we have a lot of students from cali in our class, and theyre mostly asain. I asked them why they came here bc they tend to spend a lot of time complaining about the weather and all (understandable when your used to 80 and sunny everyday). Anyways they came to SUCOP bc they didn't get in anywhere else.

congrats! Wes!
you're one of the first few people I got to recognize in here since I started coming to this thread. I felt somewhat personally knowing you in a way I really wished you get in. Didn't you mention you didn't take PCAT and Sullivan was the only option for you? Anyway, congrats! now relax and share with us lots of interview tips! :meanie:

Thank you, I feel the same way about a lot of others that have been in this thread. I have stated it before, but I really like the camaraderie in this thread. Even if I didn't get in I would have done everything I could to help you guys live your dream. Now, maybe we get to live them together. 🙂

Yeah Sullivan is the only program I applied to, and I opted not to take the PCAT after meeting with Dr. Facione back in April. He told me that SUCOP was going away from the PCAT because there was not a direct correlation between PCAT score and how well students performed in Pharmacy School. Also, after meeting with him he estimated my chances of getting in were at about 80% in favor of and couldn't give me a 100% chance because you cannot guarantee anybody a spot. I decided I would play those odds all day long.

The other thing is GPA and PCAT scores get you an interview. The interview gets you the seat. Since I decided to go back to school to finish my pre-reqs and try to get into SUCOP I have researched the profession like no other and I did my due diligence on their program so I was able to talk somewhat intelligent to the ADCOM. Afterall, why would someone know all of this information unless they were truly interested. I am pretty sure it helped me out.

In the HILO thread I listed some basic interview tips for Gump, you should check those out. Also, if you click on "interview feedback" at the top of the page you can browse the PharmD programs and look for Sullivan. I left a pretty detailed summary of my visit.

wow....so does that mean class of 2013 will have 70% Asians then? I know a lot of Asian students who got accepted for class of 2013. I wonder what happen to the Kentucky people. I thought they are the majority.............

Louisville is a pretty diverse city compared to the rest of Kentucky. Personally, I like it that way.

How full do you think the class is now? I think they are taking 100 students this year. has anyone had a thursday interview yet, when do they start? my interview isnt till the first fri in dec.:xf:

Wes: congratz. come join the facebook.

Criz: I am from california too. I chose SUCOP because I got an early acceptance and it is a 3 year program. The tution is high but I can save a year by going there. I can't wait until they get accredited so I can join the military to pay for my tuition. Anybody here consider joining the military for tuition money and residency after graduation?

anybody from southern california?

lol everyone is applying out of California because it's way too competitive here! Better chances out of state. I'm from Cali too! My hometown is San Jose but I live in San Diego/La Jolla area.

Sooooo I talked to Paige and she told me that the committee was probably not going to meet again until the end of Oct of the beginning of November. So I sent my app toward the end of September I hope to hear from them soon about interview. I don't believe this class is yet near 100 percent full. I say they have offered 40 to 50 seats. But what to I know, I am going to keep the faith and keep on keeping on. Hang in their guys and if you haven't heard anything about a interview hang in there, Paige was off and they got a little behind.

I looked into the military option but my wife was unimpressed. She doesn't want to travel and I dont' think it is a good idea in regards to stability to my son. I am, however, looking into serving in the USPublic Health Sector. You get all the military benefits and they don't force you to relocate.

"ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. " JFK I wouldn't go to the military after grad because I rather work to pay off my tuition than go to war. One must think for himself:laugh:
