Hey, I'm new here, but I have kind of a summer program dilemma... I've been accepted to the MD Anderson CPRIT-CURE program and the St. Jude's Pediatric Oncology Education program, and rejected from the Iowa SUMR program, but I am still waiting to hear back from the rest of my programs. The problem is, St. Jude's has given me a deadline of early tomorrow morning to reply with my acceptance, or I will lose my spot. St. Jude is my second choice, but I have not heard back yet from my first choice, the University of Cincinnati. (It's my first choice because they have a program specifically focused for undergrads who want to do an MD-PhD later, with more structure and development for that career path).

St. Jude sounds like a great place, and I've already had a phone interview with a mentor there. He wasn't one of my top choices initially, but after talking to him I think I could find an interesting project in his lab. He seems like he really wants me to work with him. I just don't like how they are pressuring me to reply tonight or they will reject me. I called Cincinnati today and they said they could expedite my application process, but there's no way I will find out today. Should I just take my second choice in case I get rejected from Cincinnati? What would you all do in this situation?

I wish I had your dilemma! St. Jude was my dream but my sGPA slightly missed the cutoff :/
I say follow your gut. If you'd be happy there accept it! If not, worst case you end up at CPRIT which isn't a bad gig! Cinci told me that we will know by March 31st latest but there's no telling when youll find out, even expedited.

Rejected from Ohio State SROP and received an email from JHU SIP with around 120 other students cc'd saying the application survived triage and asking income questions.
Would you mind sharing a bit more about what the email says exactly?

I applied thru the leadership alliance. It informs that your application survived triage and requests for your tax information to assess your eligibility for research funding.
lol looking like my application didn't survive triage

Did you actually get a rejection? I haven't heard back from them at all but they were supposed to have all decisions out by now.

Also, haven't heard back from JHU SIP so I guess that means rejection 🤔

Here's my status:

Accepted: NYU, Penn State

Rejected: none yet

Waiting: CSHL, Sloane Kettering, MDI, Northeastern, Johns Hopkins, MIT, University of Buffalo, Wadsworth, Albert Eintstein, Notre Dame and Boston U.
*A few on this list are still accepting applications. Also read that some on this list have already sent out acceptances.

Did you apply directly or through the Leadership Alliance?
Directly. I met someone who worked in the office of SIP when I did Leadership Alliance last summer so I just did it through the normal app.

Lol it doesn't offend me. These programs are a crap shoot and have so many intangibles. You never know exactly what they're looking for.

Yup, definitely have to agreee with you on that one. I believe grad school/med school are the same though. I have a friend that got into Harvard Med for his Ph.D but got rejected by the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

CHOP is still reviewing and won't have a decision for another week or two on interviews

That's crazy and it sucks how random these acceptances are!!

I guess when it all comes down to choosing between "equally" qualified students, there is a certain amount of randomness bound to be present. It just sucks to be the one that doesn't get selected 😛

Thanks! It wasn't the SURE program, it was the Emory Healthcare Hospital Based SIP. Good luck on all of your applications!

Still haven't heard any news whatsoever from the ~10 programs I applied to..

Has anyone heard back from any of these:
-Baylor SMART
-NYU Sackler
-Amgen (Columbia)
-Mt. Sinai
-Brandeis REU
-Einstein
-UPitt (CNUP)

I've gotten literally nothing so far....

I just heard back from the OHSU ONPRC saying they are pushing their acceptances out to the second week of March due to high applicant volume. :bored:

I've accepted a position for POE at St. Jude so I'll be interested to hear your decision!

Anyone know anyone who has been accepted to MGH? Still haven't heard anything and decisions are supposed to be out by Tuesday
Interesting though because in my letter they said that I will know if I'm off the wait list by March 2nd.

...

March 2nd is the final day to accept the offer. If someone doesn't accept expect wait list movement.
