Summer Research Application and Acceptance Thread (REU, SURF, SURP, SIP, AMGEN etc.) 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If everyone copied and pasted the running list of notifications with their addition then it would help everyone out who is wondering about specific programs

I put together a list of programs that users in this thread have been accepted to and rejected from. It would be cool if everyone just copied and pasted this list with the addition of their status when they hear back from a program. I compiled this from posts in this thread. If I missed something, please add it. If the program wasn't specified then I didn't include it. Hopefully this helps.

Just got in CSNE REU!! 😀DD

Me too! I'm excited and the projects look really cool but I really want to know what other offers I might get. What are you going to do? Do you know if it's acceptable to try and ask for an extension?
I got it extended to March 1st, still too early for most programs. Btw, if you do choose to accept, what are your plans for housing?

Does anyone know when Yale, JHU or UChicago will make Leadership Alliance notifications? I haven't heard back from any of them(or anywhere else for that matter)...I just want acknowledgement of my existence :beaver:
Does your placement status for Leadership Alliance say "No decisions have been made. Check back again."?

Does anyone know when the Ohio SUCCESS Program send out acceptance/rejection notifications?
Just received a rejection letter. An hour before that, one of the coordinators told me that they were deliberating in the next week and would let me know at the end of February.

I actually haven't heard anything from OSU SUCCESS. I didn't even get the deliberation email. Maybe they forgot about/lost my application, lol.

I also got a rejection this morning. Maybe they're sending out rejections first so no email is probably a good sign for you Beyonce2.0

Anyone heard from

-Harvard or UVA Leadership Alliance? :O

These programs are crazy crapshoot. Rejected from OSU SROP and MIT MSRP

Still trying to decide between Columbia Amgen and CSNE REU....

Also received an email yesterday from JHU regarding funding. I applied to their SIP. The email says our application survived triage, wording is ambiguous :/

I'm really sorry about that. Maybe if you have your own funding you can email the MIT summer program directors? The MIT program was easily one of the best experiences of my life.

I didn't receive any email, positive, negative, or ambiguous :/

Same here! Although I applied exclusively to the Public Health program. Don't know if that makes a difference...
I also applied only to the public health program! I believe the SIP app portal/website said there would be about 100 spots (not sure how many specifically for Bloomberg) and someone said they had already sent out 70 emails...so I am a bit worried about that now

😱 Well good luck to you my friend! I hope we hear some good news at least we will know one one or another in 6 days!

For people that applied to Harvard Med School program (SHURP), though I assume SROH works the same, I received my acceptance this week when I applied.

(Don't know how many people on this thread actually applied, but just leaving it out there.)

Also, the second year I applied to UPenn's SUIP at received my acceptance the same day as the deadline (First year was like the 10th of Feb, I believe). They are VERY efficient when it comes to the reviewing process.

Michigan CARSIP rejection today!

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile app

Updating this list. Got an acceptance from the NIH CRI today (sub program for NIH SIP) so if I go to the NIH I have a stipend covered yay🙂

I'm so nauseous, my top choice sends out notifications like now....... or at least they did last year.
I can't get TWO rejections in one day.
That's like obscene.
So
It's gonna be an interview I can feel it in my bones

Last year this week:
NYU notified the 25th of Feb for acceptance and 27th for rejection.
Sloan rejected this week.
Harvard Stem Cell accepted this week.
DAAD-Rise
Leadership Alliances (some)

Until March first, those were the ones I saw.

I'm just waiting on NYU, MGH, Sloan Kettering and Yale at this point so I'll let the group know if I hear anything either way

Applied to MGH too! Waiting to hear back 🙂

If anyone applied to U Rochester SURF and is waiting to hear back, I just called and was told decisions will be sent out within the next two weeks.

Accepted:
St. Jude's POE
MD Anderson CPRIT-CURE

Rejected:
Iowa SUMR

Don't know yet:
University of Cincinnati MSTP SURF
UT Southwestern SURF-CANCER
Feinstein Student Intern Program

Hey, I'm new here, but I have kind of a summer program dilemma... I've been accepted to the MD Anderson CPRIT-CURE program and the St. Jude's Pediatric Oncology Education program, and rejected from the Iowa SUMR program, but I am still waiting to hear back from the rest of my programs. The problem is, St. Jude's has given me a deadline of early tomorrow morning to reply with my acceptance, or I will lose my spot. St. Jude is my second choice, but I have not heard back yet from my first choice, the University of Cincinnati. (It's my first choice because they have a program specifically focused for undergrads who want to do an MD-PhD later, with more structure and development for that career path).

St. Jude sounds like a great place, and I've already had a phone interview with a mentor there. He wasn't one of my top choices initially, but after talking to him I think I could find an interesting project in his lab. He seems like he really wants me to work with him. I just don't like how they are pressuring me to reply tonight or they will reject me. I called Cincinnati today and they said they could expedite my application process, but there's no way I will find out today. Should I just take my second choice in case I get rejected from Cincinnati? What would you all do in this situation?

Rejected from Ohio State SROP and received an email from JHU SIP with around 120 other students cc'd saying the application survived triage and asking income questions.

Did you apply directly or through the Leadership Alliance?
