Summer Research Application and Acceptance Thread (REU, SURF, SURP, SIP, AMGEN etc.) 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone here been part of/know someone who has been part of the Biostatistics Training programs (SIBS) at BU or Columbia?

Does anyone actually attend Berkeley? I wanted to know about good vs bad mentors, if possible 🙂

Anyone applying to NIH UGSP!!! Someone please help haahah

I don't know if anyone still wants to know when MCHC is releasing decisions but they said on March 18th.

Have you heard anything from them? I completed both the interviews and am just waiting to hear if I got in or not.

has anyone heard anything from sr-eip chicago, stanford or columbia? i have to accept another offer today and still not a peep after call nd emails 🙁 feels kinda rude but maybe this is expected?

Anyone going to be at Johns Hopkins this summer (or apply to a program there)?

E-mail them! I e-mailed all three directors at each program and stated when I had to accept another offer and they got back to me!

I've emailed all of them and called all of them multiple times :/ It's kind of strange! How long did it take for them to get back to you?

I haven't heard from Columbia either :/

Truthfully I think they're done trying to respond to every email and calls. Every site is probably being inundated with anxious students (I called all my selections today and got to no one lol). Sigh, oh well.
hey it's comforting to know it's happening to others. Uchicago did answer and they were very nice! they told me almost all natural sciences/science tech stuff was placed and now they were looking at those who weren't rejected for social sciences/humanities so if u haven't heard that's a good sign that you're being sent to faculty for selection (so your success is prob depending on if they can match u). they said we'd know by april 1st

This is the kind of logic I was thinking NYU LAMI is using right now... Maybe they're trying to "match" me the same way UChicago is... I'm scared to call/email and ask in case I jinx it. Either way I hope we all receive answers soon!! Seems like humanities/social science stuff always takes the longest.

Rejected from WashU Amgen. Pretty bummed tbh.

Still waiting to hear from UCSF Amgen, Penn SUIP, UVA SRIP, and 3 SR-EIP sites (Chicago, Vanderbilt, UMBC). Anyone have any info on these places?

Silence from: Einstein SURP, Cincinnati SURF-N/MSTP SURF, UPMC SPAEP, Rutgers NeuroSURP, UVA-SRIP, UTHSCSA, and UMASS SURP.

I wish all of these programs with February deadlines did not take so long to reply. 😳

Quick question:

One of my friends got an acceptance from her top choice after accepting another offer before. How bad does it look if she withdraws her acceptance after already saying yes?

I think it'd be easy to make a case about funding granted your friend's preference is providing more. Otherwise I think if you can break it to them gently then it shouldn't matter.

UVa started sending out acceptances so you should hear soon either way. good luck!

I emailed UCSF Amgen and they told me that I wasn't on the waitlist, which basically means that I've been rejected. Just email Julia Clark.

Lol so can they just accept us since we found our own mentors? Lol like c'mon here

A lot of these programs really don't have any input in grad school/ med school admissions tbh. I feel like SDN puts too much weight in how rejecting an offer could "hurt" your chances into so called grad program.
Just be respectful/ nice about turning an offer down and try as best you can to go to the place you originally sign up for. Imo

I declined a program after accepting it, and both directors emailed me telling me to make sure that I keep them in mind for graduate school because they'd love to see my application. These programs are honestly big giant recruitment events. They won't be mad because they want you to come there later on.

For Columbia it took about a day for a reply, I didnt hear back from Dartmouth, and about 3 or 4 days to hear back from UChicago (but i had already accepted Columbia by the time Uchicago got back to me).

Does anyone have any new information about Hunter SPUR or Yale Leadership Alliance? I'm guessing Yale has already made their first round of acceptances, but have they rejected anybody? Thanks.

Waitlisted at UVM SNURF with an unlikely chance for receiving an offer
BUT
I am accepting an offer at SUNY Upstate Medical University 🙂

Yale does silent rejections. Emailed them a few days ago and they told me they extended a second round of offers last week. "It's unlikely that we will be extending anymore offers."

Hunter has already made first round of acceptances. They sent email a few days ago that they are still reviewing applications, so my guess is they are waiting for the people accepted to reply, and then will proceed to send few more acceptances until spots are full.

Did UVM email you? I haven't heard anything from them since they talked to my letter of rec people.... don't know what that means

I emailed UVM SNURF Program about 2 weeks ago and they said that they narrowed the applicants to the top 50 and my application was still being considered. I just emailed them today and they said that my application was waitlisted. I have heard, however, that someone emailed them last week and then they received a rejection. As well, someone on here has received an acceptance. If you email, you may be able to hear where your application is ranked.

I just got accepted to UMass Combined Summer Undergraduate Research Program Fellowship. I already accepted Cornell though, so I'll be declining. Just wanted to let everyone know that they've started sending out acceptances.

As in within the hour recently? (Basically, are they actively sending things out now)
