so here's the deal (since i'm not a mean person)...

there's a Last Action Date on your TMDSAS profile in the top right corner (i cant remember exactly how to get there though - you'll figure it out)

right after january 15 that number (00000000) will change to something like (000011504), meaning 1-15-04 was the last action date. that's the last time the system used your name for any reason. if your number stays the same all the way through you matched to your highest school - the system doesnt need to move you again because youre already at the highest spot possible.

every ~4-5 days the system will take the names that 1) didnt match or 2) matched but have spots open at higher ranked schools and try to place them, which you can see by the number changing again (000011904). this will happen ~3-4 times between jan 15 and feb 1.

when your number freezes youve matched. if it keeps going you either havent matched or youve matched and the computer's trying to move you up.

that's about it.

Just out of Curiosity: Why wouldn't the system be able to match every spot in one fatal swoop on the 15th?

...But seeing as the TMDSAS site never really updated their website for 2005, I'd beleive anything short of a chimpanzee throwing balls at goldfish bowls with our names in it for the match process.

I'm pretty excited, I guess the sun shines even on a dog's ass once in awhile 😀 Funny, I called them last week for my third and final time to see if anything had happened with my application, and I got a "negatory" from the secretary. As an aside, she did tell me that they will be interviewing throught the beginning of January, thus extending interview dates another 2-3 weeks. Invites are going to be sent out through the middle of December, according to her. So, if you're still waiting, you've still got a good shot. I took them about 7 weeks to get back to me, so hold tight. 👍

they get new shipments of fishbowls every 4-5 days

The more info we find out, it seems like the crazier we get. I know for sure that I'm going to be looking at the TMDSAS website every second possible after Jan. 15 and I'm going to freak out if the dates start changing. This process is pure torture, but hopefully it will all pay off. 🙂 👍

After school is out, the wait is going to be even worse! Is anybody working over the holidays. I got an email from American Eagle that they need temps over the holidays. Maybe I should just relax! 🙄

Low and behold, I found nothing from them, but instead received an interview from Tulane!!! After a very crappy week (boyfriend stuff), this totally made my day! After a LONG dry spell, my inspiration has been renewed! Don't give up hope guys--things happen when you least expect them!

A question for lane or anyone else who applied TMDSAS last year: Did the Texas schools extend interviews last year? I'm glad they're doing it, but does this mean that there were A LOT more qualified people applying this year? I'm starting to get a LITTLE nervous....

I don't recall the schools extending interviews last year, but when I interviewed at UTHSCSA in December they told us that they received a stack of ~250 applications from TMDSAS that they didn't have time to review because it was already so late in the process. I'm guessing the TMDSAS did something similar this year, hence schools extending their interview seasons. Of course that's speculation...but I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with the quality or number of applicants - it's probably timing.

Yeah, thanks for the "you're good enough, you're smart enough" pep talk, lane. 🙂 It's hard not to answer that little voice in your head that's going "exactly how many people are applying this year, and how does that (negatively?) affect me?"

Today I caught myself asking the MD/PhD in my lab "Okay, so you say you got in with a below average gpa, but if you were applying this year, do you think you would still be accepted?" (trying to make a futile exploration of whether adcoms are looking at numbers or whole person this year - sometime these can be the flavor of the month). He took the easy answer of, "Well, nothing is certain, but if I had to make a guess, I would say that applicants are definitely stronger this year." (he's on the committee, so I guess he would know).

But he's also told me that, even after being on the inside of the process, he still thinks a lot of what goes into an adcom's decision is just plain randomness. Comforting?

Maybe the most constructive thing I can do until February 1st is find a paper bag to breathe into? 🙂

From good sources (at least at San Antonio)...this was a this year problem. Supposedly the number of August MCATers applying late (Sept. & Oct.) was right on their estimates but the number of April MCATers who waited that long to apply was surprisingly high...meaning the number of applicants for the second half of the interview session was higher than expected and so they've extended it...and it's also taken them longer to go through all the sept and oct apps. Texas schools have had apps on the rise the last couple years at least...so while there are sure to me more apps this year than last, its not the quality of the applicants, its the timing.

We went out to eat with a bunch of my family and a student and his wife from TCOM at a BBQ place called Angelo's. I have been in New England too damn long, as I could hardly understand the menu, but happily ordered a "Beef Plate."

Just got invited to interview at UT at Houston on Dec 17 !!! I am originally from Houston and my parents are still there, so at least I don't have to pay for a hotel, car, etc. UTH has also extended their interviews to Jan 7.

Anybody else interviewing at UTH on Dec 17 ? I graduated from high school (St. Thomas) and am good friends with a guy who is now a MS4 there, so I will be hanging out with him and would love to meet up with people, even if you are not interviewing.

The only thing that I can't stand is how EVERY OTHER STATE SCHOOL IN THE UNITED STATES accepts students on a rolling basis. It sucks that everyone else already has state school acceptances and we Texans have to wait until February! I was pretty confident about this whole thing until I heard about all the people who interviewed at 6-7 of the Texas schools and still didn't match. I honestly wouldn't mind going to an out-of-state school if the tuition weren't so crazy (my parents were not happy with either of my out-of-state interviews)!

Oh, and the other thing: I hate how all my friends and family keep telling me, "You're crazy to even think you won't get in! Of course you'll get in!" Obviously, they haven't heard the stories I have....

Ok I know this isn't the right thread, but I am a Texan and I post here so I figured it'd be ok... Not to mention the fact that I'm so excited...

Today I got an interview invite to Wake Forest!!

I was complete there a long time ago, and when I called a few months ago I was told I was not in the top interview pool, and to call back in January... I wrote them a letter of interest/update like a week or two ago, and today I got an email inviting me for an interview... I am soooo psyched!

Of course, many people outside of texas think the system in Texas is awesome (just had a columbia med student tell me this...). They think its fantastic because you don't have people holding multiple spaces...

Oh yes! It's the little Piggy on the spaceship from Lilo and Stitch. Okay...When they show that scene with the piggy, I could swear that all the animals around him look like mutated Winnie the Pooh characters (If I remember correctly there's one that looks like pigglet and one like tigger)

meads--Yah, I understand. It's just that I interviewed at most of the schools in August and September, and I feel like it's been such a long time between my interviews and the match.

lane--Thanks buddy, I'm sure that everyone on this thread finds the idea of a waitlist reassuring! =)

roja--Yes, the multiple acceptances thing is not fair to those who are put on waitlists. I certainly WOULD NOT want to be put on a waitlist, but then again, I feel like the best candidates should be able to feel good about being accepted to multiple schools. I truly admire my fellow SDNers that already hold 5 or more acceptances--it means that they worked hard, and they deserve every bit of their happiness. It may not be "fair," but life is not fair most of the time anyway, right? I'm not going as crazy as some of you guys (yet, anyways), but let me assure you that I had a lot of friends last year who were accepted with stats below mine and everyone else's on this thread. Also, looking at the stats for "accepted Aggies" posted a few weeks back (close to Thanksgiving) renewed my confidence. There were people who matched with 3.15 GPAs and 17 MCATs--I'm so not kidding! And though I hate to admit this, what's meant to be is meant to be. Everything happens for a reason. Truly. 😳
