Glad to see that you had a good time, hon. 😀

I dont know about you guys but UTH is my 1st choice...I've interviewed at TCOM, UTSW, & UTMB, but no UTH!!

is there some unspoken rule that reapplicants dont get a chance to interview at UTH??? :scared:

I'm all about the corruption. 😀

whtdasheezy: I am a reapplicant and I received a UTH invite very quickly. You might want to give their office a call to see if they have your file. If you got interviews at all those other schools, UTH should have given you one.

Morning all.

Posted this a while back, but got no response. For those that have interviewed at UTSW--are you going to go back and round per their invite? I'm torn-seeing as I'm in Houston, it would involve another roundtrip to Dallas, but I think it would be a good way to see the school on a normal day. Any thoughts?

does anyone know how i can send a private message on this thing. I have gotten some from others but now i want to send one but don't know how.

back to med school stuff, i okay number of interviews so i feel good, but i have heard of so many stories of people with above 3.5 and around 30 not getting into tx school even though they had gotten like interview at all the schools, anyone care to shed any light on why that is, cause that's about as worse as it can get. I mean you work hard for 3 yrs and then work HARDER on mcat and then don't get in ,that's a heart breaker. what ya'll think. have heard any stories or know anyone personally.
thanx

im not sure if i will (since i would def. rank utsw ahead of uth), but if you are having any doubts whatsoever, then you gotta go check it out. you owe it to yourself.

Man, I finally got an interview request from UT Dallas...it's my first interview(I'm an August MCATer)...I'll be reading this thread for your experiences!

Hi all,
I have been reading posts by you guys and its helped me a bit. But like all those who haven't got any interviews(well, I had one,TCOM on the 29th of Sept and nothing so far) I am starting to get nervous. I am a non-traditional student so I do stand out from the rest, but my stats are not that great. 3.3 overall, and 28S on the April MCAT. I don't know if I should keep waiting or just plan on taking the April 2005 MCAT. Kinda depressing thinking of starting all over again...any thoughts?
Thanks!

Yay! I finally heard from UTSW. I have an interview for Dec 4th! I hope that my interview skills aren't too rusty by then! It's been a while. 😛

I have a friend (a TX resident) who is applying for the third time to med school. I don't know what her gpa is but she made a 33 on her MCAT. She has had interviews to places like Duke and Emory so I know her profile is comeptitive. For the past 2 years she had interviews at all the TX schools, but no luck. So, I think things like this do happen.

dang...that would have driven me crazy ...and congrats Gutsy on your SW invite

Hey,

I was just wondering how long on average it's taken for people to hear about interviews after their application was complete with TMDSAS? Just getting myself all worked up about this and checking my email obsessively.

Thanks.

I know. I can't figure it out. I think she might not interview very well. =( She is a smart and hardworking girl, so I hope she will get in this year.

Sorry to sound dumb, but are you saying she didn't match anywhere or get off any waitlists? I mean, some people get accepted into schools that they really don't want to go to, and they end up not matriculating. That is mindboggling... :scared:

The first time she didnt match or get off waitlists. The second time, I know she didn't match, but can't guarantee if she was accepted off a waitlist. However, knowing her I doubt she declined if she was accepted off the waitlist

To those who have not heard from UTH: Make sure your email filters are turned off or set to low! My UTH invite was sent to my junk mail 🙁 Luckily, they send snail mail too, but it would have been nice to know a week in advance of that.

Wow...that worries me too. What do you think's been holding her back? ECs? LORs? GPA? I know you probably don't have the answers, but I'd like to get an idea anyway. 😛

Oh, thanks for all the congratulations, you guys! Really appreciate it!

Why is everyone freaking out over this? The only logical explanation is that for whatever reason she can't communicate with people, and if that's the case, the med. schools won't accept her because she has to be able to communicate effectively with her patients if she is to become a doctor.

I'm still freaking out!! :scared:

Do you think that you can tell when the interviewer doesn't think you're doing a good job. I haven't been the most eloquent speaker at times, I've forgotten to say things I really thought, I've said "um" and "like" a few times and I've been nervous as hell!! But overall, unless I'm completely oblivious (this has crossed my mind as a possibility), I've gotten smiles and nods and a generally good feeling overall from the interviewers.

I can't believe I felt comfortable for even one moment just because I had 6 interviews.

The hardest question for me to answer has been "Where else have you interviewed and why here? If your family is in SA, then wouldn't you want to go here?" I feel like they think that I'm going to rank SA #1 (I don't tell them this, I say...Yes well I have really gotten a feel for your school today and I really love this and this...and I'm honest about it b/c there are things I love about each school I've seen) and that they may think well she's going to pick them anyway, so we don't need to accept her.

Am I going crazy????? I'm rambling on here...I think it's b/c I've had a super stressful day...just realized I'm running out of money b/c of these interviews and that I can't pay the rent on the 1st. Also, I'm so far behind in my classes and researching for my senior seminar that I'm just about to say screw it all and hope for C's.....I've never gotten a C! There I go again....sorry guys, need to vent and let off steam.

I agree, we all need to chill.

New topic of conversation...what do you guys think of the pass/fail/no class rank grading system as opposed to the letter grades and class ranking grading systems? Some of my interviewers say that having letter grades and class rank makes it easier to evaluate applicants for residency... 😕

bogus

*edit: regarding pass/fail. My penny....*

Are UTSW and SA the only ones that still do ABCDF?
I don't know what A&M does.

Jess, you need to calm down. Go ahead and vent, we welcome venting in this forum, am I right everyone? I'm running out of money also, and I have student loans entering repayment at the end of November (~$430/mo) :scared: !!!!! Don't worry about your interviews now, because there's nothing you can do about it. Just think about ranking the schools in the order you want to attend. Looking at your stats, I really don't think you have anything to worry about, ok? 👍 As far as school goes, just hang in there. :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Thanks I needed that! What I also need is a good night sleep which I'm about to do right now. 😴 I'll get my work done eventually, but it's not going to be tonight. Thanks again!

most schools actually have the interviewers secretly count the number of times you say 'um' and 'like,' and if you don't tell them you'd kiss their feet and be their best friend forever just to get into their school it's an immediate boot from the applicant pool, no ifs, ands or buts. smiling and nodding is VERY bad...don't even get me started on making a C and trying to get in anywhere. god, i just threw up in my mouth a little.

😀

come on now. everyone knows you're human - every interviewee should be a little nervous. just know that youre not alone and that the interviewers are looking at a whole lot more than just your answers to hypothetical questions or where they assume you'll rank their institution. feb 1 will come a lot closer than you think so try, if at all possible, to just sit back and relax while you can. a C isnt the end of the world - just be able to talk about it at the interviews if it should come up. i guarantee that any workload you have now will double once youre in med school...so enjoy college 🙂

Well, that settles it then... the invites are obviously in the (junk) mail. It only stands to reason that I should show up immediately for the next interview round, since my invites were simply lost.

Glad that mystery has been solved... off to Stanford!

I think as long as you can hold a good conversation for 30min during the interview, you're ok. This girl that everyone is talking about probably couldn't do that, as simple as that.

Still, I HATE horror stories like that. It keeps me up at night....speaking of, I'm off to bed and exhausted!!!

ugh i just ate a whole fajita platter from taco cabana after a grueling day. my bloatedness will facilitate my sleep. night

Hey guys,

I'm sorry to worry everyone with that story. I think it's rare that someone has to apply that many times to TX schools, and the only thing that is holding her back is communication during her interview.
However, her experience with this process really emphasizes the importance of having a plan B. For the past month or so, I've been thinking that going to medical school next year might be my plan B and I'll take another (my 3rd year) off.

MadameLULU- waht are you goign to do wiht an extra year off?

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, taco cabana.. I miss breakfast tacos.

Yum!! Nice change of subject! I love Taco Cabana...especially the bean and cheese tacos or the bean and cheese nachos!

Beans and cheese must be the world's most perfect combination! 😀

Anybody know if there is a TC in College Station? I'm leaving for there on Wednesday.

continue working on a research/intervention study and publish some papers.
im currently working on a masters thesis which i plan on abbreviating and publishing this spring. I am excited to begin medical school, but part of me thinks I need some time to relax before I have to study hard core.

do you think that is a bad idea? i've read on here that some tx schools don't particularly like reapplicants, but im not sure if that is really true. If I could, I might choose to defer... but most TX schools (except UTSW) dont let students defer.

Regarding TC, yum yum. I used to go there all the time during undergrad. Queso and torillas at 2 am. I miss that, but I DONT miss all the weight that I gained during undergrad.

There is a TCab on Texas Avenue right across the street from TAMU (a little ways south of the University Dr/Texas Ave intersection). There's also a TC in Bryan on Briarcrest. 😀 😀 I love TCab, esp the cheese enchiladas and rice. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...
