General Admissions & OTCAS Texas schools 2020-2021 stats

I got an acceptance from ACU! Does anyone know about the program and how their teaching style is?
I toured in person a while back and really liked their OT program. Seemed very personal and 1 on 1 instruction and felt like a little community. I was really encouraged by their programs tour and would encourage you to tour if you can. They would have a totally in person program too despite covid. Their maker space is super cool and you can 3D print a hand for a class. Look it up it’s a great space! The campus is nice and rent is cheeeeeap and you don’t have to do any church/Christian things since you’re a grad student.

Okay awesome! Thank you so much. I did accept my invite so that I will have a for sure option since I am waitlisted for TWU and TTU. I'm excited! I've been researching the school today and the town.

The only downfall for me was if you are OTD, the capstone project is chosen for you and your extra courses focus on that one thing. I don’t remember what it was but it didn’t sound interesting to me personally

When I applied, there wasn't an option for OTD I don't think. I was accepted into the MSOT. Now I wish I would have been in the OTD program but I guess its too late. I'm trying to figure out the downfall of the masters vs. the doctorate. I don't want to not get hired because I didn't do a doctorate degree program.

They give you an opportunity to switch into OTD sometime during the program

So I applied to their OTD program and got an update to check my status and it basically said that they won't be admitting people until April because they are still in the accreditation process, but it said they wanted to keep in touch? is this similar to what you got? im confused if they are low-key saying that I was admitted but just can't legally say it or if they are just giving me a general update. I also didn't receive any update about my master application for them?

No, apparently I only applied to the MSOT program. I had no clue that they had an OTD program yet. But I’m sure if they sent that they are accepting you when they are allowed. I read the program isn’t official until April so I’m sure they will be able to officially invite you then.

Is anyone still waiting to hear about an interview from Texas Tech University?

Did anyone get that email from ACU for the OTD saying they need to be accredited before they admit anyone?

My friend got the same email, I think they are just keeping you updated

A couple of my friends who were waitlisted for TWU Houston PT last year said they started to hear back around March

I was accepted into USAHSC - Austin after interviewing this Friday! This is not my top choice, but because I have been waitlisted for TTU, UTMB, and still waiting for admissions decisions from other universities, I’m going to accept to hold my spot. I wasn’t sure if anyone else applied to this program and got in or if I’m the only one. Just wanted to share because these past few months have been so stressful with waiting for admissions decisions and waiting to get off waitlists. I needed to share my joy 😅

Sadly I have to start planning my life as if I’m not going to get in (I am on two waitlists). If I don’t start soon, I think I’ll end up behind.

I’m going to call programs to see why they didn’t accept me. I’m waitlisted at my top two choices. Is it weird to call a place you’re on the waitlist for to see why they didn’t accept you? If I don’t get in, I will definitely re-apply to those places. I don’t want to wait until May/August to start improving my app for them in case I don’t get off the waitlist! (sorry if that was confusing, my mind is a big mess about all of this).

I don’t think there’s any harm in asking. I know when I asked last year to my top choice school they didn’t give me an answer, saying that it was something they couldn’t do, but that was just my experience.

That’s so weird! I’ve heard you’re supposed to call and ask. What school was it?

I wouldn’t get discouraged! I was rejected from 4 schools and waitlisted at 1 school last year. I then ended up getting accepted into all 4 programs that I applied to this year. 🙂 I improved my application by doubling my shadowing / observation hours, retaking classes to boost my GPA, and working extremely hard on my personal statement. I was going to retake the GRE, but with covid, it didn’t work out for me. I almost didn’t even apply this application cycle because I felt like my stats weren’t good enough. To be honest, I think my personal statement was what made me stand out. I included a lot of experiences and went in depth about my passion for OT.

As for the interview process, I made sure that I projected confidence (even though I was sweating and nervous lol), while also making sure that I wasn’t sounding like a robot. My goal was to really show the professors how dedicated / passionate I am about the profession and I’m guessing it showed. I hope this helped!

it’s was for TWU-Houston, this was their exact response, “I can’t give you any specifics for improvement since we do a holistic review of all of our applicants. I remind all applicants to make certain that their references like them, spell check your essay, be prepared if invited for interview and meet all deadlines.”

Again, I wouldn’t feel discouraged as there is no harm in asking, you may have a better experience than I did! 🙂

I agree, UT health highly encouraged us during our interviews to reach out around june to see how you can improve ur application

Hello, if I were you, I would wait to call, but that's just me. You may be high on their waitlist, and you may get off sooner than you think. If you were to call and ask, I don't think they would give you a very good answer right now since you technically are somewhere on their waitlist. I'm a 2nd time applicant. I worked, volunteered, and got extra observation hours. I hope you get in this round, but if not, just show case what you did to prepare yourself professionally/personally. Most experiences can work for this! I read somewhere about a girl who was a waitress and learned to work with people of different backgrounds/experiences in a fast paced environment, and she got into OT school. You can easily talk about how certain skills you learned can be useful to you as an OT or grad student in a personal statement/interview. You don't have to be a rehab tech as most people think! I just wanted to say that because I know a lot of people who stressed about not being able to work as a tech, but it truly is not important to be one.
Thanks so much! (Clearly being a therapy tech isn’t everything because I am one already haha!) I appreciate the advice!

Someone in the thread said they were the last cycle of interviews
was it cdc2021 ? i want to be able to message them and ask if they specifically told them that. I can't find it in the thred

Go to page 8 HopefulOT1 said that she was unable to accept an interview spot and they said it was the last time they were offering.

I was offered an interview a while ago (wasn’t able to take it because it interfered with another interview I had). But Tech refused to reschedule with me and said they had offered me their very last interview time.

Sadly I think they may be done with interviews 😓😓😓 I can’t be 100% certain. That’s just based on what they said to me.
when were you offered it?

I was wondering if any of you have an opinion on Public vs. Private school OTD programs?

hello!!! i am deciding between twu in dallas and uthscsa! i am leaning toward ut health! has anyone else been accepted to ut health? i would love to start a groupme or facebook page or something!

So since I accepted ACU's MSOT invite, I have been stressing out because it's a masters degree. I read on their website that once I start the MOT program I can't switch over to the OTD program. I had no idea they were even in the process of getting a doctorate program or I would have applied. Do you guys think I could email them and ask if I could be considered for the OTD program? The thing is they only accept 8 students, but I don't want to get a Masters in OT and later regret it. What do you guys think?
