I understand what you're going through. In my last position before making the dive into pre-med/med school I had an incident that caused me to ask some really pointed questions also. If you don't have your family what's the point......

Thankfully, my wife, parents and in-laws are fully supportive.

Think about it. The potential patients you would have seen may or may not remember you 2 hours from you seeing them....Your kids are your legacy once you're gone. The values and character you pass on to them and they pass on to their children will last for quite a while.....

Don't mean to get morose, but I do understand. Only you can make that call.

And thanks to all y'all for the support. I had posted that in a fit of frustration and sleeplessness, and sort of forgot I had, until just now. 😳 It still holds true, I jsut wasn't going to tell anybody, even though I've already put "alternate plans" in action, and in my mind, I've sort of accepted the idea of not going to med school. The test of my convictions will be when I'm holding an acceptance, and still say that my family needs me more.

good luck to you in whatever you may decide! I'm sure you'll make the right decision for yourself and your family when you're holding that acceptance in hand!
:luck:

Who hasn't gotten their Hepatitis B vaccinations yet? I need to get all 3 and it'll take at least 6 months. Plus another 2 months to check to see if I've built an immunity. Do we have to be finished with all our immunizations by July 1st (when the immunization form is due)? It says on the form that no patient interaction is allowed until all the Hep B vaccines are finished. When do students start interacting with patients?

I actually got my first HepB shot four years ago but never followed through on it, and I thought I'd have to start all over. Amazingly enough, the nurse told me that even after 4 years, the 1st vaccination is still good (I guess the primary response was enough to generate memory cells) I got the 2nd shot last month and I'll get the 3rd before I graduate. I don't know when we start interacting with patients, but there probably won't be much of it in the 1st year. If you haven't started your vaccination series, though, I'd suggest getting the 1st one ASAP just in case

Thanks, Dave and kiwi, for the thoughtful words. 🙂

At San Antonio, I believe we "see" patients first year (history, phys exam, etc), so I think we need to have our hep b shots done by the time school starts....it probably varies by school. 😳

For anyone the ends up getting into school @ San Antonio...

There is a new aprtament complex opening up called Braodstone Colonnade. The complex is the nicest I've seen in the area and they have great move in specials. A good number of current medical students are moving out there next year icluding myself, so I thought I'd let you guys know about it. If you end up checking it out, tell them Neil from the medical school sent you. She'll hook you up with 4 weeks free prorated over a 12 month lease. If you end up filling out an application, put my namedown, Neil Shah in the referral section. I get a little kick back once you have lived there for a month... once I find out that you put me down as a referral, I'll slip a $50 check into your school mailbox. The complex is really worth checking out... they have a nice gym with multiple treadmills with individual LCD TVs and a indoor basketball court. They have a really nice sports lounge with a kitchen, a huge plasma TV, a nice pool with outdoor TVs, a outdoor poolside fireplace, a a lot of BBQ grills by the pool. The floor plans are big and the interiors are really modern (wooden floors, lofted ceilings, nice views). There information is as follows:

1bd/1bth 568sq ft $577
1bd/1bth 664sq ft $655
1bd/1bth 707sq ft $687
1bd/1bth 858sq ft $779

2bd/2bth 997sq ft $926
2bd/2bth 1099sq ft $995
2bd/2bth 1146sq ft $1045

3bd/3bth 1311sq ft $1350

The typical rent for a 1bd/1bth in the area is $475 to $900 depending on the quality. This complex is the nicest I've seen in the area and not nearly as expensive as the rest of the nicer places. That's why a bunch of med students are moving there next year.

Melissa Garcia (or whoever is working there at the time)
Broadstone Colonnade
4330 Spectrum One
San Antonio, TX 78230
210-877-9926
210-877-9944 fax

Shoot me an email if you end up signing a lease and putting me down as a referral at [email protected]
I'll confirm it with Melissa and then once you've lived there for a month I'll hook you up with your $50.

See you guys at school soon...

Ha! Seriously! All this talk of apartment hunting and shots is a little unfounded on this thread. I'm really happy for those who have gotten in but perhaps this planning should be reserved for another thread.

Some of us may be reapplying while you guys are enjoying your new med school digs. 😉

Good luck to all of you! :luck:

Hey everybody,

At the risk of sounding like a total idiot, I posted the Hep B questions in the wrong thread. I didn't realize until I came back and read this thread today. Oops. 😳

So sorry about that, I realize this thread is for people on waiting lists....and I'm on two so I know how that goes. Ignore my Hep B questions and let's all get on our merry way....of waiting. 🙂

Good luck and happy waiting with us on the Texas Waitlist thread.

Is everyone having a good weekend?

Anyone else dying from allergies??? I swear this med school emotional roller coaster has increased my allergy suffering by a magnitude of a 1000. 😳

I just sneezed like 10 times lol..

You know what's weird? I have met you before. I just looked at your mdapps profile and realized that we interviewed at UTSW on the same day. I remember a dude talking about being from Arkansas and going to A&M. It must have been you. I don't know if you remember me, I had really hard-to-miss platinum blond hair when I interviewed there.

Happy waiting to everyone!! 😴

Hah yeah i totally remember you, I think you were sitting next to me at the start of the day. Pretty crazy 🙂

What color is your hair now? 😉

Right now it's dark reddish. I dye my hair all the time, it's kind of a hobby of mine. 😛

I used to have blue hair and it was really cool, but washing it in cold water was such a pain!

I haven't heard anything from them either. I'm pretty certain of what the outcome is at this point, but I'd still like to know. Last years waitlist letter and a few post-interview rejections came for people in the middle of April, so I'm expecting it anytime now.

Still no movement at UTSA...

the official Waitlist number is 75...

😱 that's all! 😛

so I guess there has been ONLY one person who's been taken off waitlist.

The return of the dreaded LMFU...I just checked my status page (for kicks) and I noticed that my LMFU changed to 041805. Anyone else's change recently?

To add to the paranoia...mine did too. 🙂

Just wanted to let everyone know that there has been movement off of the TCOM waitlist. I received a call on Friday and got the official letter in the mail today. 😀
For those of you still waiting, there is hope. Don't give up.

As did mine...gosh, and here I thought my days of maniacally checking TMDSAS status were over...

Anyone know what it could mean? Probably nothing, but I just have to read into everything 😛

Congrats, DO2009! I matched at TCOM as well and attended its Spring Fling this past weekend to revisit the school and meet future classmates. The people I met there were all pretty cool. 👍 If you haven't found it already, the TCOM Class of 2009 page is at

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew abt UTMB's wl? The admissions lady told me that they don't think they'll be much movement this yr...i certainly hope this isnt true
On another note, what do y'all think abt Texas Tech vs UTMB? Any input on the pros and cons of each would be very much appreciated!

thanks

Hope that doesn't mean there won't be much movement on the other waitlists as well! :scared:

I believe UTMB has accepted 220 people for 200 slots, so I'm not sure if that is normal/abnormal...hopefully normal.

That's probably normal; the sad part is that no one seems to be withdrawing from UTMB and therefore opening spots for waitlisted students. I've just about given up on them

Stay patient (easier said than done). There will definitely be movement after May 15. Not sure how much, but some. Just to give an example the director of admissions at George Washington said that there would be no movement of their waitlist until after 15 May...and they take about 40% of their class from the waitlist. Think of it like a big puzzle. Once the first couple of pieces are placed, the rest starts to move fairly quickly.
Good luck 👍

I'm guessing the movement at UT schools is much less though, right?
