Feel free to add any insider information, whether or not you have heard anything back, why you think school x should burn for being so slow, etc..
 
I forgot to mention my stuff
I did get off of UTH waitlist (I withdrew from UTMB a month ago) which is AWESOME but I am still waiting on UTSW and BAylor!

anyone else....

Just wanted to let you guys know that UTSW waitlist is starting to move a bit. I just got off their waitlist 2 days ago. I am also holding an acceptance at TCOM. Tough Choice!! Good luck to ya all!!
 
Does UTSW tell people where on the waitlist they are? Has anybody asked them/heard this from them?

Hey all,

Just wanted to see if there were any other UTHSCSA waitlisters out there. SDN doesn't really have a lot of info about this particular waitlist - has anyone heard about movement for this year?
 
last year UTSW and UTHSCSA had serious movement the second and third week of May, then again in June. Good Luck!

They won't be looking towards the waitlist until they get 40 accepted people to go elsewhere. They accepted too many people.

Wait until May 15th for a good shot.

I just withdrew from UT Houston so hopefully one of you will get a spot 😀

i just got off the utmb waitlist today (or rather yesterday). it was such a thrill to come home from work and see a packet there in the mail!

the waitlists are moving people->keep your chin up.
 
I know someone who still is holding a spot at UTMB even though it's clear that they are going someone else. Lemme continue to egg them on to release it.

FYI one of my close friends just got off of the UTMB waitlist so it seems there is some decent movement there. He was accepted to tech so hopefully it will trickle down soon...

2 years from now i will go ahead and bet that i will be waiting for waitlist movement. I really hope i dont have to but i have a feeling i will be.

good luck to you all, i know id be crapping my pants right now in anticipation if i had no acceptances.
 
Perhaps I am just a little bitter but does anyone else think that this entire process could be handled much better?
 
I heard that we are still 30-40 ppl overbooked.
 
I was just accepted off the UTMB waitlist this past Tuesday. I'll be declining my A&M offer soon so hopefully one of yall out there will get it.

For those who are still waitlisted at UTHouston or elsewhere, I did write an LOI, kept updated with Dr. Kellaway with about monthly emails/updates. I contacted my interviewers (that was the big push, I think) because one of my interviewers is a world famous physician and his advice and "checking up on me" in the admissions office is what really helped, I think.

Stick with it! the most important piece of advice I can leave y'all with is probably...THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE. Every time.

While I did send LOI as well as an update letter (drafting another one right now), I never got into contact with any of my interviewers. Is this something I should do now, or would it look obvious that I just want them to further recommend me?
 
Has anyone been accepted to Tech from their waitlist yet?

If you never had contact with your interviewers beyond a thank-you note post-interview, I think it's safe to say that they'll question your motives in contacting them out of the blue now. It might be worth it if you had some connection that would make them remember you, but you're probably fine with your LOI and updates.

Would contacting an interviewer under the pretense that you are looking for guidance on how to strengthen your application for reapplying be too heavy-handed? I am thinking about doing this partly because I see no downside.

Here is the letter I initial drafted:

I hope all is well. I interviewed with you for the Texas A&M College of Medicine on November 1, 2007. Unfortunately, I did not gain a seat at your medical school and was placed on the wait list. While this has been difficult (since Texas A&M is my top choice), I remain confident. However, there exists a very realistic chance that I will not get in, which brings me to the reason I am contacting you. I was wondering if you could provide some guidance on what I should do to strengthen my application if I have to reapply. When we spoke, I felt you really examined my application and therefore might have some insight into its weaknesses. Currently, I am working in a schizophrenia research lab at UT-Southwestern. This particular patient population has interested me ever since I worked with individuals suffering from bipolar disorder in a rehabilitation hospital. Working in this lab has greatly increased my clinical knowledge and afforded me the opportunity to help patients while also interacting with passionate and thorough clinicians. I understand that you may be very busy, so any opinion or guidance in this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear from you.

Sneaky! But your pretense (asking them about your application faults) contradicts your true intent (influencing them to support your acceptance off the waitlist) - it's like you're sending your interviewer an update letter.

In reality, I don't have any more clue than you do. My gut tells me it's probably not going to do much good to bother them if they don't remember you, but it probably can't hurt, either. I'd just ask them for help.
 
I agree with GrapesofWrath on this one. Your true intent is made somewhat obvious by including what you are currently doing.

I think it would be best to be honest. Just ask if there is anything you can do to improve your chances off the waitlist. Might sound like a silly question but at least you will seem very interested.
 
So this particular interviewer really liked me. He thoroughly read through my app (He underlined and annotated my personal statement) and basically spent the interview trying to recruit me to come to A&M (little would he know that I don't have a choice at this point 😉). I obviously should have kept in contact with the doctor, but I never received a response from my thank you letter so I never followed up. I am hoping that by bringing to light that I didn't get in will motivate him to inquiry about my status from the admissions committee. I just feel awkward emailing the guy 6 months later explicitly asking for help.
 
Waiting sucks but, you should keep a couple of things in mind:

1.) An interviewer is recruiting for the school at the same time he is gathering info for the committee.

2.) You are ranked at this point regardless of what a program says (they are not going to review 800 apps everytime a seat needs to be filled).

3.) Consider who is picking from the waitlist pool. Your interviewer, the director of admissions, a secretary, the committee, or the chair admissions.

4.) Is there someone who can go to bat for that you actually know.

5.) Do you have something to say that will make a difference at this point (It is easier to admit someone who has similar qualifications if they have a LOI on file b/c they will not have to make multiple phone calls say a difference between positions 1 and 10 on the list but of your number 282 how much is it going to help).

In essence there is alot of anxiety involved in a waitlist. Schools appreciate this but, it is a fact of the process. Usually stepping back and thinking rationally helps.

Or egging people on to release their spots. Speaking of which, I keep getting UTMB e-mails, so I'm gonna call tomorrow to make sure that I've 100% withdrawn.

I'm headed out of cell phone contact for a week this month, but I'll have intermittent email access. Should I tell schools to contact me by email, or should I give them my parents' number or something? Both?

Also, if it's after May 15, I might not have a week to contact them (ie, they might move down the waitlist if they don't get a quick reply). How worried would you be in this situation?

PS - It's CREPES, not grapes. You know, thin sort of pancake with delicious fillings? 😛

I empathize! 😀 What I would do is contact one of the admissions assistants that frequently handles communication about waitlists. Give them all of your contact information! From what we have heard, it looks like people are being contacted by email for the most part. :luck: Try not to think about it :laugh:
 
Are you guys all in state applicants? I heard the out of state waitlist is different.... come on UTMB!

It's not, at least with the schools where I was waitlisted.

SHOCKED! I got off the UTSW waitlist last week! I am really sad to give up my spot at UTH, but I think it is the right decision! I hope one of you really deserving people get my UTH spot!

Oh, and no i did NOT write a LOI!
 
It seems that every school has had movement except Tech. I hope they start moving people off the list soon.
