Texas Waitlist Thread

Is May 15th also an important date for Texas medical schools? Speficially, will there be any movement of the A&M wait list soon?
 
May 15th is important for texas schools (perhaps a little less so than oos but still significant). It all has to do with trickling down. A person deciding between Baylor and Harvard choices Harvard. Someone from UTH then gets in to Baylor from that open spot. Then, a person from ATM decides to accept the open spot to UTH and BINGO open spot at ATM.

so does anyone anything about out of state admissions for UTSW? are out of staters on their own waitlist or is there just one list for everyone?

I got into A&M on Friday. Someone also got in around that same time too. Can't wait for the wait list blitz next week.
 
Those of you who sent an update to A&M after being notified that you were on the waitlist.... did you send it via email or the postal service?

I got into A&M yesterday...and if anyone is interested in a research position mine is now open in Houston. PM me if you are interested.
 
Since Baylor starts in July, its AAMC traffic date was April 15 right? If that is the case, how come there hasn't been more movement at Baylor? I mean didn't all the kids who got into one TMDSAS school and Baylor have to knock off one on April 15?

Baylor technically starts class in August (remember, accepted students can skip orientation if they weren't in yet) so that rule doesn't 100% apply.

April 15th for Baylor was the last day we could get our deposit back. That's why you may have seen that date floating around.
 
Anyone knows if A&M expects more waitlist movement?​
 
For all you waitlisters:

1) Should be one more spot opening at A&M soon. I declined my spot over a week ago, yet today got an email from UCLA saying that I still had mulpile acceptances. So I called today, and apparently my letter was sitting in a mail basket somewhere. So today I have been OFFICIALLY withdrawn according to an AAMC audit of my file.

2) Buddy of mine will be giving up his spot at A&M as well because he just got into UTMB of the waitlist. So that makes 2.

3) Another friend of mine will be going to Emory instead of UT Houston. That should also start a trickle down to help someone out somewhere.

So keep on truckin' guys - the waitlists in Texas are definately about to blow up. 😀
 
I got into UTSW today!!!!!!
I interviewed back in september (rediculous huh?) and got the email yesterday (5/23) that said an express mail packet would be coming in soon.

With all this movement at UTSW alone there must be a surge of movement that would soon go through the rest of the texas schools. I wish you all the best! The news will come when you least expect it.
 
my friend also heard from ut-southwestern yesterday too. seems like southwestern really moved yesterday.

so A&M waitlist hasn't moved at all after May 15 huh?🙁
 
waitlist is churning again.

got an offer today from UTH and turned it down. hope that helps someone.

also, a friend of mine just got into utmb. so it looks like a spot should open up at tech.

i know at least one OOSer who got in off of the waitlist in June last year; also Wes said at my interview that they ended up making around 42 or 43 offers out of 70 OOSers interviewed in order to fill 20 or so seats. this to me suggests that they do have to pull a number of people off of the OOS waitlist (or at least have had to do so in the past few years), assuming they don't take more OOS students than they have seats for initially. Also, seeing that it is not exactly easy to get an OOS interview for UTSW, I imagine that many of the OOS people that get admitted (off of the waitlist or otherwise) have options when it comes time to choose a school, and some obviously choose to go elsewhere. Sadly though, I can't get any information about what is going on this year either, so I have pretty much given up all hope of getting in at this point. I figure if they wanted me at all, they would have let me know something by now...it's just so late in the game.

Though this can't be much comfort, in-state people did not get quartile information this year. My friend who got off the waitlist (see above) is in-state and he complained the whole spring about how there was still not information about what quartile of the waitlist he was on. He is happy now but it does not seem like anyone got quartile information.

I didn't apply to utsw, so I don't know their oos policies, but most of the other schools in texas lump oosers in the same waitpool as the instaters. It may be the same there...

Apparently they're working on ranking the waitlist right now and we should find out our rankings by the end of the week.

I'm surprised they're even bothering to release one at this point; maybe if they actually do release it that means that they actually plan to make more offers. Then again, maybe they are tired of being harrassed by people that they know are definitely not getting in. I have been told several times since February that they expected to release waitlist rankings very soon, so I sort of have my doubts now anyway. Also, i know some MS1s and MS2s that are from OOS and I don't think they were ever given a ranking.
 
whats going on with baylor?
 
Just wanted to let you guys know that I just withdrew from UTH for UTSW. It was realy hard bc I loved UTH but hopefully it will go to someone else who likes it too.


P.S. I also want to know what is going on with balor
 
For all those waiting, I got accepted off the waitlist today. Don't know whether I will accept it or not... so they are still giving out acceptances.

Thanks for the info. I can't believe that they have only taken ONE waitlister from OOS...that just makes me sad.
