The Official "How Does This Schedule Look" Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'd like some feedback. I'm transferring back to a 4-year school. I'll be a sophomore:

Analytical Chemistry + lab
Organic Chemistry I (no lab)
Physics I (w/calculus)
(17 credits)
Soph Spring
Women's Studies 101
Latin 102
Inorganic Chemistry
Organic Chemistry II + lab
Physics II (w/calculus)
(17 credits)

I'm aiming for a chemistry/women's studies double major

Just Finished Freshman Year and I've got the chem, math, and english pre-reqs done. Here's my plan for sophmore year

Sophomore Year Fall Quarter
Organic Chem I
General Biology III
Medical Ethics
Bioscientific Vocabulary

Sophomore Year Winter Quarter
Organic Chem II + Lab
Physics I + Lab
Social Justice in Healthcare

Sophomore Year Spring Quarter

Bio and Psych major. Have already completed/will have completed all the pre med pre reqs by the end of this quarter. Switching to semesters in the fall...

FALL:
Ochem1 (4)
Ochem1 lab (2)
Micro w/ lab (4)
Chinese 1 (4) (one of the three semesters of language we need)
psych class (3)
TOTAL = 17

Spring
Ochem2 (4)
Ochem2 lab (2)
Chinese 2 (4)
Physiology 1 (3)
Psych class (3)
TOTAL = 16

SUMMER
MCAT studying (probably taking prep course)
Physiology II (3)

I would then take the MCAT at the end of the summer before i leave to study abroad (if all goes as planned) and then apply that following spring (SP14). I really want to get as many upper level bios done before taking the MCAT. should i take physiology 1 in the fall, 2 in the spring, and then another upper level in the summer while studying????

Thanks so much for the help

Just finished the Bio and Math requirements. I will be a sophomore next fall. We don't choose our spring classes until the end of the semester

FALL
Intro Chem w/ Lab
Behavioral Neurobiology
History of Ecology
Intro Physics w/ Lab
Ransom music class

Would it be tough to take 3 science courses in one semester?

Physics 1 and Chem 1 is doable. Just be ready to do a bunch of math. Behavioral Neurobiology shouldn't be too bad, it's basic introduction to neurophysiology and anatomy for half a semester and then intro to neural systems the second half, keep up with the material and you should be able to get an A.

So a random question here:

If you apply the summer after junior year (most people do this for matriculating following senior year right?) , none of the grades in your senior year get looked at?

They wont look at it when they view your application, but you need to send them your transcript showing your senior grades/graduation at the end of your senior year.

...if this is one semester, then all i can say is good luck...

Yeah, I'm going to be a Lab TA (I basically just help the students if they're lost during labs) for Gen Chem 1. I'm also a paid tutor (My school has its own free tutoring center for students) for General Chemistry 2 and Microeconomics. Finally, I will be staffing my cities Model United Nations and Global Classroom Model United Nations.

I actually am a bit worried about taking such a heavy course load. My advisor let me do it because I managed to get a 4.0 my Freshman year, but I might drop Macroeconomics if I start to burn out.

I'm a freshman. Majoring in Biochemistry with a double minor in Spanish and Psychology.
Summer I:
Composition I
Summer II:
Composition II
Art Appreciation
Fall:
Honors Seminar
Elementary Spanish I
Pre-Calculus Mathematics
University Chemistry I/Lab
(15 hours)
Hopefully, I can find something productive to do this summer besides my measly classes. I have no idea where to find clinical or research opportunities in my area, though.
well, i dunno about Spanish, but if it's anything like French (or really language arts in general) then that should be relatively simple as long as you practice. Pre-Calculus is so stupid. honestly, half the things I've learned in that class, I'm not using in calculus. however, you should really be careful about this course, it's basically taking all the math you've learned prior and condensing it into a semester. chemistry is pretty straightforward, just listen to your instructor and do a bunch of problems at home.

let's try this again (new schedule, and I don't think anyone got around to the last one) :

Sophomore Fall (17 credits)
Physics I (Mechanics w/calculus, w/lab)
Molecular Biology and Genetics (no lab)
Intro to Women's Studies
English Composition
Religious Studies class

Sophomore Spring (17 credits)
Physics II (Electromagnetism and Optics, w/calculus, w/lab)
Analytical Chemistry (w/lab)
Organic Chemistry I (no lab)
Spanish for High Beginners
Intro to Sexuality Studies

Chemistry/Women's Studies double major

Why don't you slide the ochem I up to the first semester? I don't think it would be that much of a load.

I'd love to, but it's already closed 🙁 I'm a transfer, so I register last

Can you email your advisor to force you in? Just tell her about how much you love chemistry lol. Thats what I did

I'm going to try and show up on the first day of class to see if I can be added in. If that works, would you suggest dropping a science (bio) or a humanities class (probably the religious studies one)? Not dropping one would put me over the credit limit...

Fall 2012
Organic Chemistry I + Lab (4)
Physics II + Lab (4)
Philosophy of Science (half semester course) (3)
Introduction to Leadership (3)
ER Shadowing Internship (8 hrs/wk) (3)

Shadowing counts as class credit? Sweet deal. Schedule looks fine too.

Fall Semester 2012 (This is my school's first time being on semesters)
> I'm a microbiology/philosophy major
1. Organic Chemistry lecture (4cr)
2. General Microbiology + Lab (5cr)
3. Moral Philosophy (3cr)
4. Bull**** GEC class (3cr)
5. Microbiology of STDs (2cr)
6. Introduction to Metaphysics and Epistemology (4cr)
Total: 21 credits

+ two part-time jobs

Fall 2012 schedule:

Bio 1= 4 credits
Chem 1= 4 credits
physics 1= 4 credits
Random class= 3 credits

Am I good? Or do I need to change something. I already took all my gen ed.

ITT we show off our schedules

Intro to economics (4 credits)
How we eat (anthropology class) (3 credits)
Principles of Cellular Signaling (3 credits)
Cancer Biology (3 credits)
Biochemistry (3 credits)
Biochemistry Lab (2 credits)

~6 hours of volunteering
~14 hours of research

18 credits and another 20 hours of other stuff

So I decided to transfer and finish up my degree at another school. No more commuting for me! 🙂 Here's my new schedule:
Bio II w/ Lab - 4 credits (Major requirement)
Metaphysics - 3 credits (Philosophy requirement)
Mythology - 3 credits (Lit requirement)
Cognitive Neuroscience (hopefully I'll have an override :/) - 3 credits (Major elective)

I should be able to finish in two years which would make me a five year student. Also, since I'll be living on campus, (or really damn close) I'll be able to join some clubs and get involved without using a bunch of gas money. 😀

Bump.

Hopefully, we can contain schedule advice posts to this thread.

Some of you guys are crazy. I never go over 12 quarter units to ensure I get straight A's. I'm in no rush. 😎

Falll 2012-First Semester Ever

physics 1= 4 credits
Random class= 3 credits

I'm doing the same thing next semester, minus the random class though. I would suggest you drop the random class and focus entirely on the sciences, not only because they are lab courses, but because they're prereqs (and important for the MCAT). If you do well this semester then could add another class on top of it. GL 👍

Advanced organic - 3 (pchem not a prereq)
Calc 1 - 4 (retake)
Writing class - 3
Biomedical ethics - 3
Chemical Info - 1
Humanities - 3

I'm planning to take Advanced OChem too! Is your course mechanism or synthesis focused? The one at my school is mechanism focused which isn't quite as fun as synthesis.

Fall 2012

Organic Chem I (3)
Physics I + Lab (4)
Research Methods in Psychology (5)
Abnormal Psychology (3)

+Reseach and maybe volunteering/shadowing

Total: 15

Spring 2013

Organic Chem II (3)
Organic Chem Lab (2)
Physics II + Lab (4)
Gen Chem Lab (1)
Analytical Chem I (3)
Neuropsychology (4)

Thinking of taking Gen Chem Lab some other time..not really feeling all those labs in the Spring...

Also to anyone taking 20+ credits in one semester + other responsibilities: why are doing that to yourselves

Rough. Too many time-intensive courses - writing, physics, organic, genetics, lab - are going to be the death of you. Tack on ECs and work and you'll be in for one helluva semester. Is there any way you can swap either genetics or writing for a more cush subject?

I could take Environmental Bio instead of Genetics. But as a non-science major, my intention is to only do 6 hours of upper Bio (the minimum required by TX schools). One will be Biochemistry at a later point in time. I am concerned whether taking Environmental Bio instead of something harder like Genetics would be seen as taking the easy way to filling the 6 hour Bio requirement.

I also thought of dropping writing altogether, but that would put me at 11 hours for the semester.

This seemed like a feasible plan while I was enrolling, but in retrospect I am beginning to think that I was over zealous in my course selection. Please tell me honestly- This is too big of a bite to thoroughly chew, correct?

Fall:
Intro Org Chem, CHEM 231 = 1.5 credits
Principles of Cell biology, BIO 225 + lab = 1.5 credits.
Intro to Microbiology I, MICR 200A + lab = 1.5 credits
Practical spectroscopy, CHEM 213 + tutorial = 1.5 credits
General physics, PHYS 102 + lab = 1.5 credits

This is the typical second year load recommended, but with first year year physics replacing the recommended stats course. The labs are all coreqs, as is the micro to the bio class and vice versa. Should I drop the physics and take a fluff- I mean, 'elective' course?

Spring:
Principles of Genetics, BIO 230 + lab = 1.5
Org chem, CHEM 235 + lab = 1.5
Intro to Microbiology II, MICR 200B + lab = 1.5
Calculus II, CALC 101 = 1.5
General physics, PHYS 102 + lab = 1.5

Same question as above applies to this semester- And, If not already clear, 7.5 credits is full time.

I've just transferred schools and switched majors, so I had the notion that I would tidy up and finish the first year classes I have left remaining while taking the recommended second year classes, but this plan is beginning to look ominous.

I will also be working, and I was hoping to find rewarding volunteer work/something on campus to earn me a LOR, but I feel like this may be too many balls to juggle!

That being said, I understand premedicine, and biochemistry majors, aren't designed to be easy, and I am entering into this year ready to never leave my desk- But does this seem a healthy load or a soon to be train wreck? Am I second guessing myself and worrying for no reason, or should I be making some changes?

Please sdn, advise me!

I looks good, but you only know your limits. Two labs during a semester is a reasonable load, 3 will cause you a lot more stress. Good luck.

O-chem I + lab 5units
Chem II lab. 2 units
Grant writing in public health 3
Health policy. 3 units
Human sexuality. 3 units

You said 7.5 is full time but this seems like one class too many. In the fall remove chem 213 & spring calc. Just my opinion.

I'm in the honors program

I've seen many users on this forum who take full loads while juggling EC's.

My schedule looks like this:

Monday: 9:00-5:20 (break 12:30-2:00)
Tuesday: 8:00-3:00 (no break)
Wednesday: 9:00-8:00 (12:30-6:30 break)
Thursday: 12:30-1:45
Friday: 9:00-12:05

How do you even go about fitting in EC's with the above schedule (I don't usually have to manage my time so closely). I planned on volunteering at the local clinic on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but I see no time for other activities.
