Organic chem I & lab (4 credits)
Genetics & lab (4 credits)
Sociology (3 credits)
Old testament religion (2 credits)
Philosophy (3 credits)

16 units total

I feel like this is pretty manageable? 👍

All science... That can be a challenge, but your schedule is definitely doable, since gen chem ii, calc iii and modern physics are very manageable classes, since they are very interconnected (assuming you're good in math). Electronics is circuit theory, so it's good for problem solving. Could you postpone microbiology to later?

No actually micro is being replaced by anatomy and physiology I. I took all my humanities in chunks during high school so there's none for me to take.

Heh I just realized that this is a "how does this look" thread...I have to take this schedule whether i like it or not.

(18 credits)
Organic Chem II (3 credits)
Organic Chem Lab (3 credits)
Cell Bio (3 credits)
Philosophy (3 credits)
Psychology (3 credits)
Peer Education (3 credits) - This class is more like an EC. It's a freshman mentoring program and I'll be teaching freshmen a one credit class.

I'm technically a sophomore starting fall 2013 but by credits I'm a junior.
sGPA=3.8-ish, cGPA=3.89
Majoring in Bio and already completed Physics and English requirements. Completed Math up to multi-variable and diff-eq (I started out as BME). I'm minoring in Digital Arts and decided to take AP credit for Chem because I don't wanna be in that 400+ people lecture hall for freshmen:scared:. Planning on doing a Chem minor instead.
I'm also planning on having a more loosened up schedule starting my junior year to study the MCAT.

Suggestions?🙄

You're fine.

Chem I
Calc-based Physic I
Calc 3
Intro to American Music (super easy professor)
Spanish II
19 credit hours

Side note: For physics, should I take the professor with average reviews or the one that is known to be hard but prepares you well for engineering?

You're fine. Take the hard professor.

Sophomore, Fall Semester:

Electronics with Lab (4 credits, the lab is 0 credits for some reason)
Electricity and Magnetism (4 credits) (not physics 2)
Organic Chemistry 1 with Lab (5 credits)
Intro to Psych (4 credits)

My friends say that electronics is easy (just really long lab reports), and I'm really looking forward for psych because I didn't get a chance to take it in high school and it sounds interesting (and a nice break from math). On the other hand, E&M is supposed to be a killer, though it seems like for every physics class I've taken, people say that that class is the hardest class in the department.

I'm not too worried about the course load, but I am a bit worried about time management. I'll be volunteering with 3 organizations this semester and I'm on the e-board for all of them so I couldn't quit if I wanted to, and I don't want to because I like all of the organizations I'm volunteering with. Last year I ended up with around 250 hours of community service. I'll probably have the same amount this year, but I also want to start volunteering at a hospital for 2-3 hours every weekend. Luckily I'm rooming with friends so I don't have to worry much about having a social life... Super Smash can be played all the time.

That seems to be a pretty manageable workload. Good luck

Trying to decide if this is too much for one semester, or almost a good thing since they may be interrelated.

Biochemistry (4)
Microbiology (4)
Cel & Molecular Biology (4)
Biomedical Ethics (3)

The first three are what I'm referring to. Also, I do have a 3.9..... sGPA, so I can handle it pretty well. I think I'll be fine, just curious to others' thoughts.

It looks good but you can postpone microbiology for later if you want to.

I'm basically taking 14 credits, but I'm also working as an RA (big time commitment)

I would try to at least cut back on working; ecology can be a beast that takes time to wrangle, and with Parasitology and Biochemistry, you've already got a full serving of memorization.

Finally got the Chem classes I needed to start on the prereq journey after a year of GEs. My school (CC) requires completion of AP Chem in HS or their intro Chem course before you take Gen Chem, so I'm doing the latter.

13 Units Total

Introduction to Chemistry - 4 Units
Lab - 0 Units
Conference - 0 Units (Don't ask me why these are 0 units. If Conference and Lecture hours per week were added up, it'd be 3 units, but lab is once a week and 3 hours so I don't know where that stands).

Biopsychology [Honors section, but I think that just means a term paper] - 3 Units

U.S. History - 3 Units

Trigonometry - 3 Units

Bodybuilding (so I can use the school weight room) - 1 Unit

I'm a little tentative about adding on another class because I haven't taken a science course since high school (a couple of years ago).

I'm thinking about continuing to volunteer at the clinic I'm at 6 hours a week. So I guess 13 units is fine. I'll be weighted down with calc and physics and gen chem soon enough.

Get rid of parasitology.

Lol. Nice bio-centric schedule there. You're fine.

Dev. bio and molecular genetics are essentially similar by focusing on similar aspects. Biochem lab is focusing on another aspect at a molecular level. Physio is more macroscopic. Evolution is totally macroscopic. Nice transition there. Of course, this is assuming you're an avid enthusiast for biology...

Fall:

Physics I (4)
Physics I Lab (1)
Genetics (4)
Biological Research & Writing (3)
Research (2)
Education - Teaching (3) if I can get off the waitlist

14-17 credits depending on if I get into the last class. Mainly worried about physics as I know very little about it.

Spring:

Physics II (4)
Physics II Lab (1)
Microbiology (3)
Statistics (3)
EMT (5)
Research (2)

18 credits. Again, mainly worried about physics.

Hmm... Is genetics required? Everything looks good otherwise.

Is research for credit necessary?

Not really, but it's usually an easy A for 10-15 hours of research a week. Is there something you're thinking I should get rid of on my schedule to lessen a load somewhere else?

Sort of. What's the writing intensive one? is that necessary

Genetics major, biochem minor. 😉

If I had to do it all over again though, I'd probably major in physics. Particle physics is awesome. 👍 But now it's a little late in the game to make the switch.

Take physics courses then.

Kind of, it would count as one of my writing requirements. The only class that isn't required on my schedule is the teaching one, and that's supposed to be an easy A. Sigh...

this fall starting freshmen year

Gen Bio + lab
Gen chem + lab
Pre- Cal (refresher) easy A
Spanish
univ course ( 1 credit class)

my question is would i be capable of joining a club and sport team while taking these classes

Yes and yes. Manager your time properly and you'll be alright.

Relax. Your schedule isn't difficult, but I wanted to make it somewhat easier for you to adjust to physics. But if you can study efficiently (let's not start that again...), you should be all set.

Yes you can; your courseload is very manageable.

I would but I already took trig-based physics and most upper-level physics courses require calc-based. :/

Can't you try to take calc-based physics?

Semester 1:

You're fine, but try to choose some other bio professor. Surely there isn't only one professor teaching that class in the fall.

last quarter of college wooooooo!

adv. biochem lab

17 credits total

For Fall:

+ 2 more non-science classes

look?

Unfortunately, we register for our classes during a summer orientation. I had to take the 2nd to last orientation due to family preoccupations. By the time I got to register, all the good profs were taken 🙁 Hoping people would drop out of a bio class so I can take it.

Or in worst case scenario, be your prof's teacher's pet. Sucks I know, but it's better to be opportunistic in these cases.
