****The Official UNC Class of 2018 Thread****

yes. 2 dates left.

im not sure on the number of applicants during the interviews. for some reason I had the number 64 stuck in my head.

Hi there, summertimeboss! 🙂 Yes, I'm in-state. No, I haven't received an interview.

also for those who are wondering, i talked to this girl who had already interviewed at UNC and she said there were 80 students.

64 applicants each interview day is correct.

Yep, not a problem. They're divided into 8 groups containing 8 applicants in each group.

Any word on when the Nov batch is sent out? :scared:

Weren't the invites out a month or so before the scheduled interview date? Nov9 is the day so I was hoping to find out soon!!

Ya, I just said at the latest. It might be as early as the Monday after Oct 12th interviews. I'm really not too much help here, sorry.

Try to keep an ear out for us if you can, Moabmad! 😀

have they upped their class size? that might explain why the interview pool could be 80. not sure though.

also, i would imagine it would be after the october interview when they send out nov. invites. but who knows!

This! I like to find out sooner rather than later. u could be right that they might wait until after the Oct interview.

No. It's still 81. That won't change unless state funding rolls in for additional instructors. So it's not likely to happening the the next couple cycles.

64 applicants are interviewed each date.... Y u no lissen

im on the same page as you. ive always thought it was 64 students during an interview. someone posted something about 80 students. it didnt sound right, but i wasnt sure when the class size was suppose to increase.

oh well. 81 is a nice size. NYU has 200+ dont they?

anybody know how many applicants they accept per year? I know the class is 81, but they have to accept more than that right?

It's 81 give or take a person. When someone withdraws the slot is offered to the next applicant. It's not like an airline where they overlook and count on no shows. Only 81 are on the table at any given time.

Anyone know if UNC gives preference to those students who's at/went to UNC for undergrad?

Yes, if you look at previous class profile, tons of people from UNC.

The answer is no. Nobody goes through and puts the UNC grads at the top. That said, since 85% roughly is instate... Any reputable in state school should give you an edge.

I think there will be a lot of students who get in UNC dental school are from UNC. The reason is not because they did undergrad in UNC. I believe it is because ppl who did undergrade in UNC have more network in UNC compared to other students from other school. This is not just UNC, its same for most of schools, including private schools. (just my opinion and my experience)

It's because there are a ton of applicantsI from UNC, more so than any other. Just by sheer numbers, more UNC grads get in. Anyways, think we beat this dead horse.

Man, wouldn't it be nice if they had scheduled dates when they would send out the invites? Then I wouldn't have to check my phone anxiously every time I got an e-mail when the one-month-til-the-next-interview mark arrived (which is tomorrow, LOL!). I am still a wee bit optimistic, but I have definitely prepared myself for the worst.

I have a feeling next Monday might be THE day. For the October interviews, they sent out the invite the Monday after they conducted their September interviews. So hopefully, it's coming soon. I am just ready to know, one way or the other.

I'll admit, though, that having ECU send me an invite has made me feel a lot better. ECU is HUGE about being holistic in their application review process. I gather that they would much rather take a person with mediocre stats and a good heart than someone with a perfect DAT/GPA and a selfish personality. So, surely, if there was something terribly wrong with my application concerning extracurriculars/involvement and whatnot, they wouldn't have invited me!

Now, if only UNC would notice me... :xf:

Either way, although this process has been stressful, I have been blessed in many ways and have no real reasons to complain. I'll end up where I ultimately need to be. Some disappointments are blessings in disguise, and if I don't get an interview, I suppose it just wasn't meant to be. I'll be very sad, obviously, but I'll have faith that I'll be fine in the end. 🙂

Glimmer, I love your positive outlook. It's refreshing to have someone say what we all need to hear. There is an optimistic way to look at setbacks or dreams that don't come true. (Garth Brooks' "Unanswered Prayers," anybody?) My life hasn't turned out exactly how I thought it would, but I'm grateful for having the good and the bad. It's made the great times in my life that much sweeter. Good luck as December approaches! You deserve the best!

Glimmer I live in NC and have a 4.0 GPA and have no invite yet but I am I do at ECU so that's awesome. I love ECU to me the drive hard work passion and ability to learn makes a dentist. I have job shadowed dentists that are not the smartest but they work hard and are very skilled with there hands they know what they are doing but told me they forgot dental school they learned a lot during residency or when they first got a job. I am so excited and hope I get a October or November interview at UNC I am twenty and worked hard to graduate early so I am ready to go lol.

Best of luck to you! However, the invites to the October interviews were sent out a loooong time ago... so I wouldn't have your hopes up for that one! 🙂 We'll keep our fingers crossed for November, though!

Can someone please inform me if received/application complete under school decisions on AADSAS means you will not have an interview for that school?

No, I don't think it means that. In previous years, "received/under review" and "received/application complete" basically meant the same thing.

Does yours say that for UNC? Mine still says, "received/under review." Does anyone who got an earlier interview know if theirs changed to say "application complete" before they got their interview?

No, for UNC mine says received/under review. Another school I applied to says received/application complete. I just posted on this thread because it looked like I could get a quick answer. From what I'm gathering on other threads, it looks like they mean pretty much the same thing...with "application complete" meaning it hasn't necessarily been reviewed yet. I could be wrong though.

Soon before I got an interview at ECU, mine changed to say "Received/Application complete." However, I asked them about this and they said it was a change that AADSAS had made, not them.

be patient. no one knows exactly when it is.

it could very well be next week. i would just wait and check back here to see if anyone has received one. you seem like you're going crazy over this.
