Congrats for everyone who got accepted into DDS program class 2022. For those who are not intersted in attending the school, please make your decsion so other applicants can have the chance to be in. Thank you

Waitlisted as an OOS! How fast does the waitlist move for this school as an OOS?

We’ll probably see the first bit of movement around Jan since first deposits have to be paid by then. Before I was skeptical about the whole 90% getting off the waitlist like some earlier posters mentioned, but now I’m praying it’s true lol

That would be amazing- fingers crossed!

I'm just wondering, so did EVERYONE who interviewed but did not get accepted got placed on alternate list ?

Well the email says they maintain a small group of qualified candidates on the alternate list. To me that suggest that not everyone gets waitlisted

Can someone who is local call and ask how many applicants are on alternative list?

Last year most of alternatives got accepted someplace.

Welcome to University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) School of Dentistry Class of 2022 thread!
Post your questions, comments, interview dates, and stats here. I am willing to answer questions about the application procedure or anything else.

Good luck!

A line in the offer of admission email says "Also, you will be expected to maintain or improve your grade point average with that reflected in your most recent application". If my grades drop a bit this year will I be rejected? What was their official stance on this last year?

****UPDATE**** I called and they said its okay if its a reasonable drop, just don't stop doing all work and go from say a 3.8 to a 3.0!

Highly doubt it. I remember they said at the interview if you’re still taking pre reqs need to have C minimum.

People who have been waitlisted what are your stats? Are our stats worse than the stats of those who got accepted or we just didn’t do as well at the interview?

I mean it's a combination of everything including grades, shadowing/experience, letters of rec., DAT, and interviews.

Waitlisted!
Canadian - GPA 3.97 (4.0 sGPA)
22AA, 23 PAT, 23 TS
1 Publication
~600 hours of shadowing
And I thought my interview went very well

Canadian, gpa-3.5 for both s and total.
Dat- 23aa/25ts/22pat
Well rounded ECs with research
But i thoight my interview was just ok.

Ugh. It seems like dental schools' egos are too big to reject someone they thought was good enough to interview. They'd rather put them on the bottom of a never ending waitlist

OOS - Waitlisted

Boy I wonder how many got waitlisted, and how they determine the ranking!

I called the admissions office and asked if the rejection emails have been sent and she told me all the decisions have been sent out.

Canadian applicant wait listed this morning. Will be unfollowing this thread for the time being as it seemed to only elevate my anxiety this past weekend lol. Nonetheless, thanks for all the updates and enthusiasm. Good luck to all!

There are close to 20 people who are on waitlist from SDN alone lol... The group seems huge.

Waitlisted! We don't have to respond to the email unless we want to get off the waitlist right?

Waitlisted as well. How does this work if we aren’t ranked and spots open up?
I'm Canadian, waitlisted.
3.83 GPA (similar sGPA)
20AA DAT
~300 hrs of shadowing
Decent EC's and community service
Thought I killed my interview.. but who knows! Lol

Waitlisted!
Canadian - GPA 3.85
21 AA
2000 hours of shadowing
And I thought my interview went very well (My interviewer even said to me: See you next year).

NOTE: I interviewed here last year without my degree (I was entering my third year of undergrad) - and I got a REJECTION EMAIL on December 1st. So I am 99.9% sure that others have already received them and are not posting about it.

Do people seriously shadow that many hours?
Or candidates buffing their hours, and then schools bump up preferred/recommended hours.
Esp since schools don't personally contact the dentist you shadow to verify hours.

I highly doubt number of hours of shadowing/volunteering will make the difference. If there is anything I learned in this process it's that the amount of EC's people think you need on here is way higher than what most schools want or care about.

My dad is a dentist and I have been working there since I was 15.

Maybe the ones with rejects just aren’t motivated to make a post about it on sdn. I have to say tho im quite surprised at some of the waitlisters with really high stats

Oh okay. I was assuming just shadowing unpaid, did not incorporate dental assisting.

Exactly 🙂
But I really don't think shadowing is an important factor when making a decision (?)
I am not too worried, I creeped the UDM forum last year and there really was a TON of movement. Lots of people will choose state schools close to home, some Canadians will get into Canada, and others will simply choose a cheaper school. Best of luck to everyone waitlisted!

Let's just pray that those who got multiple acceptances don't choose UDM so us waitlisters can move on up! Not feeling too confident in myself right now though, seeing as this is my second time on the UDM waitlist and I didn't get an offer of acceptance last time.

That’s what he said to me! Who was interviewing you?

Is there a deposit for being waitlisted, because I think they talked about that in the interview!
