For the record, FTL, according to wikipedia can refer to faster than light, FTL games, something to do with Battle Star galactica, for the loss, full truckload, fruit of the loom, foot-lambert, or free talk live. So now that I've laid it out, will you PUHLEEZE explain. jeeze

p.s. when I say you, I mean ANYONE

man we need a chat applet for the TX OT threads, these things move fast at night

FTL means for the loss using context clues, come on now, I know that a premed can do that (even if she did go to TAMU)!

i think tx is pretty ftw myself, however i may be an expatriate for a while 😳

ha, we should have an SDN Vent channel

FTL in this case is for the loss; the opposite of FTW, which is for the win

Werd. As I stated in my previous post and what you probably already know about me is that I am working on becoming more cultured as we speak, internet subculture and otherwise......damn wikipedia let me down or at least my contextual interpretation did. I guess that's why I sucked at verbal.

Plus I am an old man, relatively speaking, so I cannot be held accountable for my lack of understanding of you young whippersnappers.

They refer to them as FTL drives.

And I can instantly make you love that show in 5,4,3,2,1...

alright, can any of you longhorns help me out? i've never been to a basketball game here before, so i'd like to hit up tomorrow's game if possible. i've got a lasp, so can i just show up at erwin two hours early and get tickets? please tell me texassports.com hasn't made me overly optimistic about my chances. 😉

hey eternalrage what's your bnet sn? I may have played w/ you and your jhu buddies before 😀

For all my Aggie Red Raider Haters ....

you didn't get into TCEH?

Hahaha, I totally saw that first-hand (I was there in the UT band when the Tech cheerleaders misspelled right in front of us! 😉 )

I'm really disappointed they didn't go for the subforum idea. I thought I made a pretty good case for it. I even told them there were people ready and willing to make FAQs and stickies like the one Anastasis is doing. They probably won't even consider making a sticky FAQ for us either.

i don't think it's necessary either, no need to make a subforum for 3 separate threads (offtopic, match/waitlist, and FAQ; the class threads would stay in allo)

it would probably create a rift in the forum population

also, idk how many other forums you post on, but when you subdivide too much it can really take the heart out of them

Well that's only because that's where we are now in the process. And there's more to it than just organizing threads. Do you know how hard it is to search through 5000 posts to find information? And even if you just post your question at the end of the thread and come back several hours later, you might have to sift through 50-200 posts (depending on when it is in the cycle) to find out if anyone answered you. And think of the people next cycle who come to these texas threads looking for info - if we have trouble looking for it in our own thread, think of the difficulty they will have. If we isolate all texas threads into one subforum, our POS search engine (all vbulletin search engines are crap) would have an easier time.

it would probably create a rift in the forum population
A rift? A good majority of the TX applicants here didn't even apply OOS, so it's not like they spend time elsewhere. And plenty of posters hop through the Lounge, TIH, Allos, and here, so it's not that hard... Also, the subforum wouldn't be outside PreAllo, it would be IN preAllo, like the class threads subforum in Allos.

also, idk how many other forums you post on, but when you subdivide too much it can really take the heart out of them
bullshido, MAP forums, Warrior Scholar, SilkRoad, Dota, Karate Forums, and more - I am a forum *****. I find subdivision is necessary when there is a big enough distinction - TMDSAS vs AMCAS seems large enough, especially with all the mess we have seen this year.

I think where you're going with this is maybe even a whole separate Texas Medical School forum - apart from SDN. Maybe if we had AMCAS and TMDSAS forums it would help the situation.

I still don't think it's feasible on here - I've been admin on a 30,000+ member forum for 3 years now and I agree with the decisions made by the staff on sdn

Definitely not. There are still many, many issues in PreAllo discussed by AMCAS, TMDSAS, and also AACOMAS applicants that are extremely valuable, like interviews, PS, approaching profs on LORs, etc. There's also the interview databases here that are also valuable, as well as all the other forums that cover post med school application issues. SDN is too much of a goldmine to break off from it.

Well the current system at SDN for TMDSAS - these threads - has too many problems. A subforum would be just a minor addition to this PreAllo forum. Anything related to the TMDSAS application process or TMDSAS schools can go in there instead of a 5000 post long conversation (not that I'm complaining about the convos, theyre great) that provides a cyber treasure hunt for inquiring applicants.

I wish we had the ability to check whether or not we're making a conversation post versus an information post. Then we could have the ability of sifting through a forum without some of the chitchat.

that's why i think this thread should be moved to the lounge (and kept OT) and a TMDSAS thread should be made in pre-allo

my $0.02

If they moved this into the Lounge now, the Lounge regulars would throw a fit.

This was the TMDSAS thread. I'd say it would make a good Random TMDSAS PreAllo Thread, whether in a new subforum or not. Lord knows we've earned it, seeing as how we are on our fifth round.

Yes, if they do damn our petition for the subforum, then I suppose the patchfix would be to make this a Random TMDSAS PreAllo Thread, make a separate TMDSAS thread/sticky - perhaps one like Anastasis is trying to put together right now, a FAQ with links to other relevant threads included.

The only thing is you know with the friendly happy going Texas posters we have here at SDN, it might turn into another conversational thread. But that'd be the patchfix I'd suggest. And if that failed, I would demand the subforum.

Don't be so negative, sweetie! 🙂 I view the Sticky as a first step. If the sticky really does get enough traffic it might make the case for the subforum stronger. At the moment I feel myself agreeing with blackrsx that it may break up the flow of pre-allo (though I'm ready to be proven wrong) and I see the FAQ as testing the waters.

That being said - you're making a very good case, ER. And to all who have already contributed to the FAQ Suggestions thead, I appreciate it. Way to show Texas solidarity 🙂

Yeah, it's really contentious.🙄

Hey I actually got into a screaming match with some raiders in London when they said the Aggie fans "deserved" to have the goalpost thrown at them a few years ago and that they were "happy" that some Ags had to go to the hospital. But people say all kinds of stupid things. I actually heard a t-sip talk about how the best thing about Bonfire is that it cut down on the number of Aggies in the world. 🙄 But it's not contentious to me - those people are dinguses and would be dinguses no matter where they went to ugrad.

hearing the nicknames the state schools give to each other makes me glad to be a Bear. if I called a school "t.u." I think I'd kill myself. well, if I was that stupid, I'd probably choke on my own spittle.

Hehe, sic'em!

.................

PS: **Warning: Venting** I hate studying, I hate studying, I hate studying, I don't want to do it anymore. **Bangs head against wall**

Shhhh armybound. "u.b." wasn't in this fight, but now I'm guessing all the Aggies on this thread are going to let you have it.

Yeah... sometimes I think its sad that people forget that its TERRIBLE when people die, especially when it is an accident. Even when it is for something they think is stupid. They had friends, families, girlfriends/boyfriends. I'm not sure how death is funny.

I think I'll have to take a break from SDN for a while. I shouldn't come on here and end up in a bad mood. (not to anyone specific, just in general).

I'm not an aggie, but it's disgusting when someone can't understand the reality of that incident. I think most people feel this way aggiesarah, it's just unfortunate that ignorant/insensitive people tend to be the ones who talk too much. There will always be people who let a rivalry get out of hand.

One a lighter note: I think I am suffering from medical student syndrome. This is only going to get much worse once I'm actually in medical school, isn't it?

Let me know if you'd like to diagnose me. Yes, I'm that bored at work, and I'm that convinced I actually have something... but I don't want to go to a doctor. Ironic, isn't it?

I don't want to think how bad it's going to get once we are in medical school. I don't like to go to the doctor, either. :scared:

I'm ashamed that those dinguses are Longhorns. Don't let it get you down, noone here holds those opinions. If that had happened in front of me I'd kick their ass.
