Hi,

Nontraditionaland reapplicant that completed all my secondaries mid July. TMDSAS and TCU (AMCAS) only. I have one rejection (TCU) but then all quiet on the TMDSAS front.

I'm really just trying to leverage my expectations and direct what my next steps are. I've read about people getting interviews in December/January but there is conflicting advice everywhere. I noticed the majority of II dates stop at the end of December in past "republic of Texas" threads. Starting to feel a little hopeless. Any advice moving forward?

TLDR: Am I cooked? Is my cycle over?

This week 3 schools sent new interview invitations: UT Tyler, UTSW, Texas A&M.
Several other schools usually send invitations through December and January.
I can't predict what the events will be this year, but this is what has happened in the past.
All interviews must be done by Jan 31. Stay hopeful, but think of what you might do to improve your profile if you don't get interviews this year.

Thanks for the info, as always. Does the Jan 31 completion date apply to II for OOS as well?

Yes, the only Texas schools that might still be doing interviews after Jan 31 are Burnett College of Medicine at TCU (AMCAS app) and UIWSOM (AACOMAS app)

Are we supposed to enter our grades from Fall 2024 semester in TMDSAS portal somewhere? Just wondering if I need to do anything to the application for schools to see or if I am not supposed to touch it.

You can enter your new course numbers and grades from fall 2024 if you want to. They will automatically be sent to your schools. If you have any trouble, please message TMDSAS in the portal

going off of this. I have an extra course this semester that I did not input when I submitted my application in may. Also for next semester I have to get rid of 2 classes and add 1. I cannot see anywhere to edit the actual courses or add courses. I only see how to add the grade.

You may have to ask your TMDSAS liaison to “unlock” that section of the application so you can amend it
This is one of the few sections of your app you can make changes to after submitting

TMDSAS applicant data updated for 2025 applicants and matriculants for 2024.

Not sure how accurate this is, but it appears you can actually see the average MCAT / GPA for accepted students if you select 'accepted' and then use the option to the right to select 2025. If you do it in the opposite order you just see applicants. It looks like currently the average MCAT for someone that has received a prematch is a 514 and GPA 3.89. Additionally, it shows that 956 applicants have received an acceptance, so that contradicts the 1 in 7 prematch number that we have seen previously unless I am interpreting incorrectly.

400 more applications than last year, yeesh! Texas is truly the place to be, I guess 😉

Very interesting. There were 822 IS acceptances out of 5207 IS applicants, so a bit more than 1/7.

I believe all you can see for EY 2025 is the number of applicants and maybe their mean GPA and MCAT.
Are the full stats now visible for EY 2024?

To my knowledge, yes, EY2024 has all of their stats available - interviewed, accepted, matriculated, etc.

This is what I can see for EY2025. I don't believe this is intentional but the numbers seem to be consistent with what you would expect before match day. Unless someone at TMDSAS patches this, I might refresh it here and there when we get news of prematches to see if this is accurately tracking.
EDIT: I can definitely see everything for applicants, but it seems that they are also tracking stats for everyone interviewed and accepted so far.

5207 represents unique IS applicants and 822 represents IS acceptances where a single applicant may have one or more prematches. Unless we know how many unique applicants got those 822 acceptances, we will not know whether prematches are more or less than 1/7. Only TMDSAS people know that unique applicants number. If they told in any of their presentations that only 1 on 7 IS applicants gets a prematch, then that is the fact.

So you are saying that in that 822, there could be multiple acceptances but linked to one individual. That makes sense.

I was reading it similarly to the other user because of the way the data is presented (since it says 822 applicants, not just the number of acceptances sent), but then again it could be inaccurate as it’s not supposed to be published right now.

Ultimately it’s irrelevant because of the match. 😛

For those reading this in 2025 the takeaway (as always) is that most people get their A on match day and prematches are going to people with stats well above the matriculant average.

Yeah.. We don't know whether that 822 represents number of applicants or acceptances. I assume TMDSAS people have no reason to lie or give misinformation. I believe whatever they say as a fact than our own interpretation of the numbers. Now, did they really say that only 1 in 7 IS applicants get a prematch? I don't know. If someone has a link to the video in which they mention it, please post it here.

Btw, that 822 will still go up as some of the schools will give few more prematches in Jan.

I think the data comes from this video from 2021 starting at about 19:15 mark discussing pre-matches for students who started med school in 2021.

Correct, the data page gives the disclaimer that the EY 2025 data is not complete as we are still in the cycle. It takes several more months after the cycle is over in summer for all the data to be verified and graphed.
Right now the only “solid” number is the number of total applicants, which is up from last year.

Effective use of the data set: TMDSAS Data Reports
To use this data set you need to
1. First select the application year at the top left
2. Then select the parameters you want, like IS/OOS, interviewed, accepted, etc.
3. Be careful when toggling around, for example sometimes when you switch from GPA data to MCAT score data on the bottom set of tabs, the graph will flip to a different year (check at the top left to see if you are still in entry year 2024.)
4. If you want to see how many people were at a certain data bar (example MCAT score 509) hover your pointer on the 509 bar and you will see how many are in it.
5. It displays much better on a desktop than phone.

I know you guys are eager for more information.
I know how you are “seeing” these numbers for EY 2025 acceptances ( by getting the Acceptance screen for EY 2024 then toggling to EY 2025).
I just do not think this number is valid or meaningful right now.

I guess people are looking at these numbers now because they would like to estimate what percentage of interviewees get prematches. After Feb 14th, this information is lost and one cannot know then whether an acceptance is prematch or not.
The right question to pursue is whether medical schools offering prematches trending higher in the recent years and if it is, why?

If I were to write a letter of intent to an OOS med school as a TX resident, would it be worthwhile to acknowledge/express my understanding of the hesitancy to admit Texas applicants and state that it is still my top choice with reasons why? I'm not sure if that's too bold/would give a negative connotation. I didn't think I would get an OOS interview and like it so much so I'm not sure how to approach this knowing I'm at a bit of a disadvantage lol

The graduate student I work with in my research lab submitted our publication to a journal back in May which I mentioned in my app. However we ran into some issues and it still in the process of being published. Would it be a good idea to write an update letter to schools I interviewed with and attaching a provisional copy of the manuscript?

They wouldn't want to see the manuscript. But doesn't hurt to say what the current progress is

Yes that would be a good approach but spend most of your words on your fit for the OOS school and why it’s worth more to you

Your message is confusing. Have you interviewed and want them to admit you or want to get an interview? Its a bit late to request interviews at most schools, IS or OOS.

Im just debating if it would be better off not to say anything until it actually gets published whenever that may be or i should just email them now. Since it isnt published yet I don't think i have any legitmate things to update them with other than showing continued interest.

Sorry for the confusing wording. Yes, I have received and completed the interview for said school.

You can write a nice update letter if you have new information stating your continued interest despite being admitted to other schools.

Just want to add that the Texas bias applies for interviews and not admissions, i.e., they dont like to invite too many qualified Texas students for interviews knowing they can get instate and it is much cheaper than most OOS choices.

Also a non-trad. Nothing from any TMDSAS except for a rejection email from UTSW. Did not apply to TCU. Since it's already the middle of January, I am already studying for an MCAT retake because that is the major way to strengthen my app. I am getting in next cycle for sure. Good luck to you.

Was wondering if there is a recency bias towards applicants that are interviewed later on in the cycle compared to those who interviewed early when it comes time to rank students.

I don't think so, the admissions officers try to be fair and probably have some rubric for scoring an application + interview in addition to discussing each interviewed person at committee meetings.
Since they are human beings, there is also a chance for the reaction to late interviews to be "wow, how did we miss this guy earlier, we like him" or the opposite "yeah, after meeting her we understand why she was not an early choice"

I was looking at the old reddit forums for match day. I saw a post that said people who got a transcript email at midnight of match day matched at 8 am. Is this true?

your match message in your portal after 8 am is your official news.
Last year on SDN there were pages and pages of people making themselves anxious posting “I got the transcript email!” Or “I didn’t get it, it’s all over!”

Let’s not do that this year y’all, ‘Kay?

This may have been answered in a past thread, so I apologize if I missed it:

If I end up ranking School A as my first choice, and School B (a prematch) as my second choice, what ends up happening if I waitlist at School A? Do I lose my prematch? If not, am I able to "hang on" to both the waitlist and prematch until a later date?

You’ll only get one school on match day so if you end up at school B, that is the school that you matriculate to in the fall. BUT… school A might email you and say you are on their waitlist. If you end up getting off the waitlist, you’ll be making the decision to go to school A or stay at school b

Waitlists are not created until AFTER Match Day.

In your example: If you rank A as #1 choice
and you turn out with a Match to School B (your prematch school)
Then watch your email to see if school A is keeping you on a WL. This might take 1-2 weeks.
Some schools add all unmatched interviewees to a WL, and others create a smaller WL.

I know today is the rank deadline for IS, but is today the last day for offers before match day?

We're at the finish line today
Sometimes it felt like a gallop, sometimes more like "hurry up and wait"

No matter the outcome, know that you ran a good race.

What's finishing today?
1. The deadline to rank all the TMDSAS schools where you interviewed is today before 5 PM Central Time Zone.
Do this by logging in to your TMDSAS Portal, under "Pending Actions."
Hitting the submit button registers your rank order.
Take a screenshot for your own records.

2. Today is also the last day to get a pre-match offer of admission. Most people find out their news on Match Day - if you did not get early news from any of your schools, you're in good company. Rank your schools according to your true feelings and don't second-guess yourself. If they invited you to interview, they felt you were worthy.

3. If you made it to this point of the interview cycle with no TMDSAS interviews at all, then regrettably the TMDSAS application cycle is finished for you. You might have applications pending at AMCAS or AACOMAS schools; there is still time for progress there.
Remember why you are doing this and that only about 40% of applicants get in each year. Take a look at, or get some advice on, what you can do to present a stronger application in the future.

If you get an offer from a WL after Match Day, the decision is completely up to you. You don't get automatically moved or dropped.

Read the new offer from the WL school carefully so you know how much time you have to make a decision.
1. You could hold on to what you've got - maybe you are now quite fond of the school that originally accepted you and are making plans.
2. You could also accept the new offer if you want to. If you do this, first say "yes" to New School, then when they acknowledge your message of acceptance, directly contact School B with your regrets, telling them clearly that you have accepted an offer from a WL and will be withdrawing from your place at School B.

I noticed that the ranking deadline has been extended to today at 1PM. Can anyone confirm this? This is what I see on my end:

If it came via TMDSAS it’s legit.

The short answer to your question, is Yes the people who got a transcript email at midnight last year did match.

The longer answer, is there is no way to know if TMDSAS will follow the same process this year.

So an email around midnight will be very positive news. Lack of emails could mean TMDSAS has decided to wait until 8am on match day to send out the emails.

With kindest intentions: Stop trying to read the crystal ball.
Your official news will be revealed to you after 8 AM on February 14, and you will read it by logging in to your TMDSAS portal.
