For whatever it's worth to others, A&M also sent out interview invitations on 08/10 (that is when I received my own).

No, I haven't done this before but thought it might show people that there are interviews happening everywhere, and that the patterns of schools differ. Some schools send them out every 2 weeks, some once a month, etc. The schools with smaller class sizes are going to interview fewer people.

You might not realize that Texas applicants often get several interviews. This is not as true for AMCAS applicants.
Appreciate and show interest in each chance you get to talk to a school directly!

Just figured I would post a general overview of my cycle so far in here to help give some perspective to future readers:
LM: 73 (I’m also a reapplicant and improved my MCAT score by 12 points from the last time I took it).
Complete Date at Schools: July 16-20th
Pre-Match Offers: Tech Lubbock & Tech El Paso
Interviewed At & Waiting for a Decision: UTSW & UTMB
Upcoming Interviews: McGovern (10/23) & Long (10/30)
App Submitted & No II: Dell, UTRGV, TCOM, & TAMU
Didn’t Apply: UH & SHSU

Great improvement from last year, and very impressive this year!

News update:
Since my post on October 15 about the first pre-match offers, I have seen:

10/16: UTSW sent out their first pre-match offers

10/16 to 10/23: A few more offers from Texas Tech El Paso, A&M, TCOM, and UIWSOM.

10/23: TCU/UNTHSC made an offer to an SDN member

Remember, y'all, I only post what I can see on SDN when you share your news. I have no direct pipeline to any admissions offices.
So, share your news to help out your fellow applicants!

FINAL deadline for TMDSAS primary submissions is 10/30, so at that point the schools will have their overview of everyone.
AMCAS school final deadlines vary.

Does anyone have any idea when Dell sends their first wave of acceptances? I heard it's typically around a week after the traditional Oct. 15 date, but I'm sure there's some significant differences in this cycle.

We only need to send transcripts to tmdsas right? We don’t need to send transcripts to the school or anything?

That's right. TMDSAS will distribute transcripts as needed for now.

Next spring when you make a final commitment to one school, they will usually ask you to send an official final transcript ( and maybe verification of degree or graduation) directly to the committed school.

From my understanding, they are not a prematch-heavy school. Additionally, they have a limited class size of 50. I'd imagine that they don't send much more than 100 or so acceptances out.

Some people I met did prematch early on, but majority found out on Match Day or much later in the prematch period. I'd imagine they'd trickle out a handful of acceptances next month, but they're pretty wary of keeping spots open for later interviews. They stressed interviewing everyone as candidates for admission, not the waitlist.

Does anyone know how to know if you should resend your transcripts to TMDSAS? I sent them on Oct 18th but they still have not received them as per the portal.

They have some work to do with your transcript once they get it, so I would wait a bit. Also final day for primaries is October 30 and they will soon be done with that task.

My college does not use one of the 3 main transcript services that TMDSAS mentions. Will TMDSAS still accept the transcript?

+1. I’m pretty sure A&M hasn’t input the prematches yet, if that’s where you prematched.

I prematched to tamu and they inputted it yesterday. That’s when I received the transcript request.

Congrats to all those prematching at UTMB. I'm disappointed I'm not among you and trying to remind myself the game isn't over.

Since my post on October 25 about the first pre-match offers, I have seen:

10/28/2020 Dell sent out the first acceptance to an SDN member

10/30/2020 UTMB sent out a few pre-match offers at about 4:30 pm

10/25-11/1 UIWSOM, UTSW, Texas Tech Lubbock sent out some more interview invitations

Dell sent out a few more secondaries & interview invitations (remember it only sends secondaries to a fraction of applicants).

We have NOT yet seen any admission offers from:

University of Houston
Long
UTRGV
SHSU
Baylor

That's all I have for today. You've done your part, don't let the waiting get you down.

Right, after you have been offered an acceptance TMDSAS will ask you to send one to them.
Later when you have made your final commitment to a school, they will want one sent directly to them as well as proof of graduation ‍ ‍

I completed my secondaries to most TX schools in late August/early September. I’m feeling pretty discouraged as we get closer to thanksgiving and I have no IIs, but I’m trying to hold my head up. But I have a question for y’all- I graduate in December (I’ll have a BS in molecular bio) and I don’t know what to do in the meantime. I am currently working as a COVID screener at a clinic, but I feel like I have the capacity to do so much more! I have no certificate to be an MA or EMT, and I’m not sure if it would be worth it to go through a long training like that. If I have to take a gap year, what jobs do y’all recommend? How are ways I can improve my application?

Scribing is something that doesn’t take long to get into and is universally loved amongst adcoms.

However, I know some hospitals, including the one I previously worked at, suspended the scribe program because of COVID.

Do you have any other clinical experiences?

Hope you hear back from some schools soon!

The only clinical experiences I have are volunteering in an endoscopy unit for a year and the job I currently have as a screener. I applied to a couple scribing companies back in the summer, but they also suspended their scribing positions in the hospitals near me :/ and thank you! I'm just hoping for one interview at this point haha

Try to use any gap time to improve your application's weakest points and/or yourself. Also, remember that a gap year job does not have to be directly related to medicine if you would prefer to explore something else. In my gap year, I chose to pursue a full time research job, even though my application certainly had no need for additional research, because I wanted to learn, be productive, and enjoy doing research.

If clinical experience is what you're after then I would highly suggest looking into PCA/PCT/Unit Technician jobs at a hospital. They typically have a low barrier to entry and the direct patient care experience is very difficult to beat (it's not always a glamorous job but neither is medicine).

I am getting demoralized as I sit here without any II going into November. With 2000 research, 500 clinical, and 160 nonclinical hours, should I try and amp up my nonclinical involvement? I am planning on working part time as a tutor and doing community service, but wouldn't mind working full time perhaps in a research position. With a full time research job, my nonclinical hours would suffer of course. Is there a right answer lol

News update for week of 11/1 to 11/8:

Since my post on November 1, there has been some Texas action!

Texas Tech El Paso, UTSW, Texas Tech Lubbock, McGovern, U of Houston, Dell, UTRGV, and TCU/UNTHSC have all sent out more Interview Invitations.

Dell doled out a few more secondaries, and 1 admission offer 11/3

11/4 and 11/5 Long SOM offered a few pre-match offers, IS and OOS, but reaffirmed that almost all IS offers this year will again go through the Match in March.

11/4 and 11/5 Texas A&M made some offers of admission to MD and EnMed

11/6 UTMB made more prematch offers

That's what's up this week. Remember I only post what you guys share on SDN, so share your news!

I'm writing this post to see who else is in my similar situation. I am a very white caucasion male student from Texas. Very traditional student. Majoring in the typical Biology/Chemistry pre-med tract. I have a 3.9 gpa and scored a 510 on MCAT. I have numerous extracurricular activities in the medical field and other volunteer experience. I am however lacking research experience. Had things lined up this past spring and summer which were canceled due to covid. My MCAT section scores were all about the same. I did score under what I was doing on my practice tests. I guess I just had a bad test day. My MCAT was rescheduled 3 times. When my test was rescheduled, I just kept studying for the MCAT and did not complete my TMDSAS until after I took my MCAT, mistake number 1. Next, TMDSAS was 7 weeks behind on my initial application. I completed my secondaries as soon as I could and was complete around 8/20-8/26. I applied to just in state schools excluding Baylor. I didn't think I would get an interview invite based on my MCAT. I am blessed to have had one interview so far that went great and another coming Dec 9th. I really hoping for a few more interview invites and hopefully increase my chances on matching somewhere. I have a very unhealthy obsession on checking my spam folder. I have heard others on this forum still waiting on interview invites. I know many schools are planning on extending interviews into Feb. Question: What percentage of students have the medical schools have already interviewed? Do u think the schools have interviewed about 75% of potential candidates and have about 25% left to interview?

I have a very unhealthy obsession on checking my spam folder. I have heard others on this forum still waiting on interview invites. I know many schools are planning on extending interviews into Feb. Question: What percentage of students have the medical schools have already interviewed? Do u think the schools have interviewed about 75% of potential candidates and have about 25% left to interview?
Your application was not late in this year's pandemic landscape. 2 interviews by now is great, and you may get more by the end of January which is when most TMDSAS schools will wrap up their interviews. Baylor usually has at least 1 interview date past TMDSAS Match Day, and TCU/UNTHSC will be probably be interviewing past February as well. Despite the super high averages seen on MSAR, 510 is competetive for TX applicants. So yeah, check your email & spam folders (and all the tabs on Gmail if you use that) daily, check application portals once or twice a week, and know that you have done your part!
