Hamptons, very nice. I've only been out there a few times. I'm from southshore too, but from Nassau (Lynbrook/Oceanside/RVC area), pretty close to Queens. I'm going to have to plan a trip out to Montauk sooner or later, I can't remember the last time i've been there. I'm not home often enough to take the trip.

I love it out in Montauk, I haven't been out in two years because of school. Hoping to make a trip out there before I start med school though thats for sure. I have alot of friends back there.

My dad grew up in Massapequa so I know the area you are from. 👍 Always good to talk to people who actually know what Long Island is if you tell someone out here you are from Long Island they get confused lol Someone I spoke to didn't even know it was actually an Island... I was like seriously? 🙄

So I'm kinda stuck on what I should do as of now, I just got my mcat score, and it sucks 7,7,7 N=21N. Don't know if I should submit my secondaries since it might be a waste of money. My gpa is also low (3.19)

What do you think?

I'm looking at retaking in Jan. but by then it's already so late into the cycle. So frustrating 🙁

Look at it this way, at least you're perfectly balanced and your scores of 7 would not automatically eliminate you from all schools. Then, all you need is someone with some compassion to read your app . In all seriousness though, how strong are your EC's? Do you feel like if someone looked past the 21 you would be a strong candidate? If you did feel confident aside from the MCAT score I would just go for it and send out some secondaries. If you already have gotten secondaries than you're really not that late in the cycle, just send them out ASAP if you decide to apply.

I thought about re-taking classes this fall, I actually had signed up to re-take 4 classes to raise my science GPA. I did feel however, if an ADCOM looked past my abysmal Sci GPA then they would see a strong candidate, and I decided to just go for it and apply instead. It's just a matter of how confident you are with the rest of your application. It is going to be a tough battle, thats for sure.

Make sure tomorrow means tomorrow. Coming in as an underdog means the earlier the better. Good luck!

I didn't care if secondaries were automatic or not, I still got excited every time I saw an email on my AACOMAS email account! Screw it if they go to everyone who applies, you're still competitive enough to be considering medical school. That is already above a vast majority of people!

Hey Underdogs!! I am planning on applying next summer but I won't have finished my biology course until fall. I want to complete the application as close to June 1 as possible. So can I send in a transcript w/o biology and still be verified. Then send in a new transcript? Thanks friends!

Yes you would be verified, you also can decide whether or not to list that you will be taking the Biology courses in the fall. If you do not list them, schools will review your application once complete. If you do list them, schools may wait for your scores or make a decision anyway. If you learn one thing from this thread, make sure it's this: Apply Early!

Thats hilarious. Thats like if I were to tell someone I'm from southampton they are like "ooooooooooooooo" then I have to explain that when I lived there southampton was not the "estate area" that it is now.

Whats even worse is when I go back to Montauk and they act like I'm some kid from California ala Sunshine in Remember the Titans and give me crap. I'm like "I grew up two doors away from you ******!" lol

yeah ive gotten one from kcom, nsu, vcom, lecom(bradenton) so far lol. this is crazy. I applied to 14 schools. Looks im going to be writing a lot. Althought I didnt neccesarily get one from vcom. They just said that they would be looking over my app this coming week and didnt give me an invite to thier secondary yet. Lol they just said that got my primary. is that what everyones getting from them or did they send me that cause I have an mcat score pending? who knows Im still excited as poo

Good luck on Friday. Try to keep calm. It's the only test I ever took that gave me "test anxiety." In hindsight, I had enough adrenaline that morning to run down a rhino, let alone concentrate on an exam, so..... try to avoid the caffeine if you can 🙂.

Both of your scores are well above underdog status, I would also bet that Podandsome has a kickass personal statement, seeing that you had a kid and went from a 2.75 to a 3.9. If you want to be supporters let me know. Be sure to let us all know when you guys get in.

They were my first secondary too! I wouldn't be surprised if the secondaries started pouring in. Remember, if you have the chance to send a quick email to the schools you're really interested saying thank you and that you have received a secondary it could do wonders. I know WVSOM, UNECOM, and LMU-DCOM thanked me for my emails, which allowed me to make some friends. Although, now that I think about it, I never wound up sending in any secondaries except LECOM-E .

I'm wondering whether to sort all of the TBD's to the bottom so it's easier to read stats, or to leave it in the order that everyone joined. I'm leaning towards the latter as of the moment.

Wow I just finished reading the whole thread! and am so happy to have found a home! unfortunatelly I REALLY belong here (bottom of the list), with my stats, I'm not sure if I qualify for underdog membership
ugpa 2.8 ggpa 4.0 (only 3 classes tho🙁) took 2 MCATs in 2005 (19O & 18O ...I know!)
BUT have enormous amounts of medical and non-medical volunteer hrs (more like over a decade), as EMT, ER tech, immigration clinics...)

state substitute teacher certified
assistant paralegal (paid work & non-paid)
held Manager positions for multi-mil.$ company for ~8yrs (non-medical)
speak 3 languages
Started a baking company (2006)😛love to bake

Studying for the Jan 2011 MCAT and planning on applying to post-bac, also planning to apply to both DO and MD next cycle. So pretty please can I join?

Oh I almost forgot my biggest accomplisment of all...gave birth to 4 amazing little kids😍.

I think it just depends on what you have to say. I tend to write more and edit down so I was near the cap on most, but some questions I have half the max words. I just got done with UMINN-Duluth's app and it is insane. There are 13 "short answer" questions with an 800 character limit. Took me all night. But now I'm officially done with secondaries until the few straggler schools get their secondaries together and online.

the premed in me tries to get it as close as possible to the limit....but the more rational side of me says to just write as much as you feel comfortable and that you get your ideas across. I think most of mine are 3/4 full at least

I have tons of Healthcare experience. Several certifications. And really good LORs.
submitted my primaries and waiting on secondaries.

While we may be here for the same reason, bc. we're "underdogs" and our numbers are not up to par; I'd be willing to bet that most of us do have what it takes to be competant, compassionate, caring, and courageous enough to take on the yolk of the future of medicine. Good luck everyone.

mcat - 1st try: 17, (2nd try this Thursday 8/19)

are you in a formal-post bacc or doing some on your own? I have been working in the business world for about 7 yrs now. Did an MBA, but medicine has always been on my mind. I started off a Biology major and changed my major after being told I'd only become a bio teacher instead of a doctor.
