I think I'm a borderline underdog. MCAT 28O and a 3.15 sgpa. Although you all may disagree 😀. I've been following this thread for a while, and it's so awesome to read about people who have worked hard to get to the point of interview/acceptances! SDN can be frustrating at times... some of these other applicants have such great numbers! But as you guys know, numbers only get you so far. Congrats to everyone who has defied the odds so far. Keep it up!

Quick question for my fellow UDs. so my mcat is being released tuesday and I will obviously submit it to AACOMAS through the AAMC's Thx, but I know that will take sometime to get to each individual schools. Touro NV provided in their email a fax# I can send a copy of MCAT Examinee's Report of Scores to speed up the process. Do all schools take the MCAT Examinee's Report of Scores? I would really like to get things rolling since AACOMAS might take more than a week to get the scores to each school. thanks for any input/advice.👍

i just wanted to say good job to everyone getting interviews especially those who have been offered an acceptance. i'm an underdog too and i was thinking of applying for this cycle, but unfortunately, my school is lagging with my transcript and i just feel it's way too late in the game now to even try to turn it in (since my transcript won't be ready for mailing for another 2 or 3 weeks).

don't mean to bring anyone down with me but i just had an argument with my parents. basically, i didn't do so well in undergrad too (maybe i just didn't know how to study until i got into grad school?) and graduated with a cgpa 2.7 sgpa 2.4? was fortunate to get into an MPH and graduated 2009 with a 3.6. i just retook 3 classes so far and was able to bring up my cgpa to a 3.0 and my sgpa to a 2.7 but still need to work on my sgpa. so after finally deciding not to apply this cycle and telling them i'll just retake classes, i basically got yelled at because they said i don't know wth i'm doing with my life retaking classes and not applying, and i might as well apply out of the country (like in Asia where we have family). i asked them for help in paying for class retakes and that's their response. i just felt so discouraged. i told them i just need to work on the gpa and i'll have greater chances of getting in next cycle but they just didn't understand.

i'm not looking for sympathy but just tell me i'm doing something right here and i'm not wasting my time and digging myself a deeper credit card depth for nothing. btw, just took my mcat aug24 so it'll be awhile before i'll hear results. if worse comes to worse, i'll have a chance of retaking it in january or february. what do you guys think?

Hey Db, I can throw the spreadsheet on the first page if you want. I was going to update the front page in order of applicant scores, I just have not had the time. Couple that with all the TBD for MCAT scores, and I just was not in the mood . If you have an updated spread sheet however, I would update the front page with it, if at all possible.

This is all the information I've got for now, I think I'm probably missing some people's invites and such (traitorman I think has a few) but I'll look around and see what I see. Anyone feel free to PM me with updates to your stuff or post in here and I should be able to add it. Also, there are quite a few people who have popped in, said "i'm in" and left and aren't heard from. unfortunately the vegas days are definitely going to go by the wayside once med school starts. I've decided to dedicate and actually push myself unlike my undergrad performance so I'll probably become a hermit once school starts. SO I lost it one night and the dread of getting a sub 20 score hit me like a bag o' bricks. At this point I promptly signed up for the 9/2 date. I have been working on my weak points and feel pretty good about it if I have to take it again. SO I dont know.

Just be aware, mine didn't come out until like 6:30 PST. Also the scores aren't scheduled to come out until after 5pm EST. Try not to check as much, just watch on SDN for people to start posting, the MCAT thread will blow up as soon as they are released I wish I would have prepped myself rather than just opening the page and being like *bam... scores* lol

I was lucky that for some weird reason i forgot about MCAT score releases...and my buddy called to say he heard my date got released. So instead of constant pressure, it was just crazy pressure for like 10 minutes lol

I can't see things like extracurriculars, difficulty of classes taken, or trends from this, but based on those three numbers (sGPA, cGPA, MCAT) you look like you'll get in somewhere. 👍

thanks dre. i have a pretty good upward trend in both gpas, (last year was pretty much all upper level bio's, ended out my senior year with a 4.0 😀) a couple of club/honor society things, a year or so of research with a couple of posters and my name on a paper (not published yet but ready for submission). also i have some (not a lot of) volunteering, shadowed 2 DO's and an MD, and have worked part time all through school. im hoping to get my primary in within the next day or 2 then hammer out some secondaries pretty quick. congrats to all of you already in 😀

I think it was the higher of the two. Mine is 3.01 for sGPA and 2.92 for cGPA but is listed as 3.0

All right guys and gals.....I have finally decided to join..and post. I have been a stalker of the DO forums since last app cycle. Yes, that does mean I am reapplyling. However, I was quite bummed after receiving my MCAT scores today (VERY unbalanced) and I need some input/encouragement/hope.

Last year I applied with a sGPA: 3.27 cGPA: 3.55 MCAT: 21M (PS6, BS7, VR8)

This year: sGPA: 3.45 cGPA: 3.56 MCAT: 24M (PS5, BS10, VR9)

I have awesome Extracurriculars, lots of volunteer work including a summer at a hopsital in Ecuador, lots of shadowing at a top hospital/clinic, psych and bio degree, I work FT in clinical research, and working towards my masters.

WHAT IS THE CHANCE THE 5 IN PS WILL KILL ME FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF INTERVIEW INVITES???? Is there no hope? I have already received 15/17 supplementals before getting my new score back today (all but Touro-NV and WVSOM which=interview)

*I did have 6 apps on hold last year even with files complete in Dec.

Man, I hate seeing people with a great app all around but a low MCAT score. You know if you could just get to a 30 or above you'd be in good shape for even Md schools. Honestly, if I was in your situation I'd take an MCAT course or study harder and aim for at least a 9-10 on the PS. It's the easiest section to increase your score in and you've already got the other two down consistently. You're holding yourself back applying with a 24, but to answer your question you may very well get interviews regardless but it'll be a crapshoot..

I actually wouldn't even remotely consider you an underdog. Your GPA is above average and your MCAT falls just below. In fact, I'd say at this point I'm only an underdog due to the fact my cGPA is still a 2.92, if I do take my class in fall and get an A I definitely wouldn't consider myself an underdog anymore w/ a 3.0/3.1
