But I think going to UD would provide me with a better chance of getting into TJU pharmacy as they have a combined program.
Also, as a current student do you have any comments thus far about the school? Curriculum, staff, etc
Comments so far? Let's see...
PRO: strength is in its clinical program/teaching. In terms of the didactic portion of our program, we're getting taught by former USP professors + hospital practitioners in their field of expertise. Our Dean even lectures, it's pretty nice.
In terms of experiential, our IPPE's throw us right out there beginning week 2. I was part of the pharmacy team of a free clinic headed up by some medical students and a pharmacy resident. I sat in on exams, started taking BP's, med history, learned SOAP noting, pt presentations, etc... within my first few weeks.
Also, we have OSCE's which are standardized patients in our mock hospital unit. We're given "scenarios" and we work through them with the mock patients and are graded.
I've talked to my colleagues at other schools, and these aren't really done (ie their focus is more didactic). Or, if they are done, they're not done until later.
Another pro is we're taught by medical school faculty for certain classes. Another pro is access to faculty being the only class on campus right now, then again...people have been abusing this privilege.
CON: I hate medicinal chemistry. Then again, after asking around, we're getting the same junk as everyone else at other schools. Our professors for this are from UMB.
Another con...slight tweaking of the curriculum as we've been going along. Usually minor stuff like going from 50% finals to 40% or less, or switching around blocks of material. Most of this stuff is getting hammered out with us, kind of minor.
