wow...this thread is over 1000 posts!

I just turned in my aid packet on monday, and they said it looked complete, so i can probably answer any questions about it if you want to pm me...it was a long process getting all that crap together. glad i only had one school to do it for.

for those still interviewing (and there are such people as of last week), don't give up hope just yet. today I found out that they are still holding a couple very select spots for those really outstanding candidates, though most will probably end up being waitlisted. so go in and rock the interview so we can see you next year!

wow! from being on here and seeing the quality of the people being waitlisted, those applicants who are granted direct acceptances must be DINE-O-MITE!!!!! 😉

 so that's what the rest of the song says. the only part I could ever make out was "where it's at....I got two turntables and a microphone"

Just listened to this song on my run this afternoon.

"rockin' the plastic like a man from the catskills..."

I'm sorry, and this will seem like sour grapes, but Loyola is a joke. A friend of mine, who may or may not be me, found out the other day that (s)he won't be granted an interview despite a ~3.7 gpa and a 35+ MCAT (and quite a few diverse ECs) from a respectable school. This individual was really interested in Loyola and their mission as a medical school.

Who do they think they are?

so many applicants share this same story about other schools where they thought they were very competitve. Thats just how it goes. This is why people with amazing numbers/ECs/LORs apply to several schools, because its a crapshoot for almost everyone no matter what

Loyola does an amazing job of matriculating positive students that work well with each other, and contribute to the overall feeling of teamwork, service, and joy in learning. By your post, you clearly demonstrate that you would not fit in with this level of positivity.

But they didn't even interview me to find out what a negative, bitter person I am!

Miss Cleo the psychic jesuit admissions officer that works there held up your envelope and predicted that you would be a poo head that would later call the school a joke. Go Miss Cleo!

seriously. if you don't have something constructive to say, go to a different school. i agree that your post shows either 1) that you wouldn't fit in or 2) its that time of the month for you and you shouldn't post again until it blows over.

at loyola, we actually use the 3rd step method for interviews. we stand at the top of the flight of stairs in the M1 lecture hall and throw all the files towards the bottom of the stairs. anyone who's file lands on the 3rd step up from the bottom gets invited to interivew. i'm pretty sure you landed on the 4th step...close, but just not quite making the cut. better luck next toss.

I actually don't think it's a joke. If you couldn't tell, the post WAS sour grapes, and was written tongue-in-cheek. I was genuinely interested in the school. Not going to shed any tears, since I'm in at multiple other places, but still.

I think we can all relate to the feeling of being rejected - it stinks. If Loyola is your first choice school though - I would call them up and beg - I mean, it can't hurt, can it?

So I got called in for an interview over spring break on the 15th. I went to chicago for the interview at loyola the next week (talk about high plane fares!). The dean of admissions told me that there are still spots available for direct acceptances, but that those spots go to people interviewing currently (as in this month). So, everyone that hasent heard anything yet is probably going to get waitlisted, while everyone that has interviewed so far this month of march has a very very very small chance of getting a direct acceptance. Anyway, Loyola is an amazing school. I have to say that the Loyola has impressed me far more then any of the other schools that I have interviewed at.

that is all

So...just a question. Why did you go with the lame "I have a friend who..." post when you were talking about yourself?

It's already an anonymous forum.

I agree. While I only applied to Loyola, who I never heard from, I had already had a deffered acceptance (my only acceptance) from my state school when I applied to something like 15 schools. Sadly, I wish I would have been at least offered a chance to interview, but alas, I guess I'll save the additional 20K per year and stay at Iowa. Good luck to you all next year! :luck:

I dunno. When I started typing the thread, I was trying to be more clever, I guess. And granted, it is already an anonymous forum, although if you post enough about yourself its probably possible for people at your undergrad to figure out who you are. I don't really care about anonymity, though.

Goddbye Loyola, you will never know how much you hurt my by ignoring me all these months. Now I have found someone who wants me (UIC 😛 ) so I am moving on with my life. I thought we were perfect for each other, you were everything I ever wanted. But life is cruel and I was wrong; you and I were never meant to be. So this is goodbye, i hope you will be happy with the person you chose over me. 😛

Woo Hoo.. my favorite thread has been revived! (OK.. with a sad post, but revived nonetheless)

yeah...my old car was on it's way out and definitely wasn't going to hold out for another 4+ years, so my wife and i decided it was best to replace it now while we still had some savings left rather than continuously repairing the old one. plus, considering i'll probably be driving about 30 minutes each way to and from school, the added gas mileage will be a nice advantage.

the auto show in chicago always falls around my birthday, so we went this year, did our research, and ended up with an audi a3. it's probably more fun than a car should be...hopefully i'll still have a license when school starts 😀

don't know too much about audis - is it all wheel drive? 😀

TimmyTheWonderD said:

they make one with all wheel drive, but only with the larger v6 (and a price tag around $37000...uh, no thanks). I got the smaller, turbo 4-cyl engine with front wheel drive. it's still ungodly fast and tons of fun to play with, plus the gas mileage is way better without the all-wheel and the v6 engine.

Any new info on interviews, or is it pretty much over by now?

I called last Thursday and they said I would hear from them (if I get an interview) within the 7-10 day period. Tomorrow will be the seventh day.

I am just popping on this thread to tell Timmy that I miss her.

I called and I'm up for final review between now and the end of April...I really hope I can still get an interview, even if it's for the last spot on the waitlist.

Good luck to you all!

Same here.

I just called and was told that I'd get a call by the middle of next week if I get an interview invite...

When did you go under final review?

No clue? Since like Jan, they kept telling me that my file has been reviewed (several times) and has been flagged for another review and is eligible for an interview invite. Actually, I'm guessing sometime this week because when I called last thursday they told me that same schpeel saying it will be reviewed sometime inbetween then (last thursday) and the end of April. I wish they would make up their minds .. I totally love the school and want to stay around chicago, but I can't take all this waiting.. :scared:

So far the only thing I can thank the allopathic medical schools for is the development of an anxiety disorder. I hope they are happy! 🙁

I am still under final review and will be for probably 7-10 days according to them.

Just a quick FYI - I'm hosting someone for an April 20th interview date so we're interviewing until then at least.

Was this person notified yet or were you just told you wil be hosting someone? I wonder how many people are in this pile they are reviewing. It can't be that many.

aww, i miss you too GD! so, what is the haps with rush? i see you posted in the "officially withdrawn" thread....did you just pull out of everything else when CO finally showed you the 😍 and respect you deserve????

the waitlist gets ranked soon.....here's to :luck: for us all!

Does anyone know if you can email admissions or of the dean directly at Loyola? If you have one please let me know!

does anyone know how the waitlist ranking works and what the best way to get off the waitlist would be? would it be better to send an update letter/LOI now or wait until final transcripts and graduation are complete?

I would definitely send an update/LOI, and I would probably send it sooner rather than later...you'd want them to for sure have the letter before there's any waitlist movement. i don't remember when the waitlist will start moving, but it's rapidly approaching (yes timmy...we know you are counting down...) good luck with the LOI. it for sure can't hurt.

I interviewed on this past Friday. I was excited to receive the invitation, and I had always had a very positive impression of the school, but I went to the interview thinking that I would probably end up at my state school, where I've already been accepted. I hope that I was wrong.

It's difficult to put in to words how much I liked the school. The facilities were incredible as were the programs available to students, but I was most impressed by the people. Both of my interviewers were passionate about their school. The tour guides and the students I met at lunch were genuinely wonderful people. I want to be at this school.

I understand that the prospect of a direct acceptance is very unlikely, if not impossible. So my intention is a spot on the wait list. Any advice from current or prospective students would be welcome. I am calling the office tomorrow (or rather today) morning to ask for a fax number, so I can send in a letter of intent. I was told that the committee is meeting tomorrow (today), so hopefully I can get it in quickly.

I really almost wish that I had never interviewed at Loyola. I was happy with the state school and was getting excited about next year. Now I'm a nervous wreck all over again. I desperately care about going to Loyola, and would appreciate any advice.

Does anybody know how many people are on the alternate list? I know that Stritch has taken anywhere from ~10-25% of their class from the alternate list in years past, which means anywhere from ~14-30 students selected. You have a good chance if there are only say 50-75 people on the alternate list, but I have heard/thought not many people are rejected post interview, rather they are placed on the alternate list. If this is the case then the alternate list is about 200-250 people (~550 interviews - ~300 acceptances). Then chances are not so good to be pulled off the list because you only have less than a 10% chance. How will they rank that many people?

I have nothing of substance to say in response to this, but just wanted to wish you luck - I know waiting can be a pain the rear.

Hey guys,

I withdrew this morning. So there's an extra seat! Good luck to all on the alternate list. :luck:
